From Zero to Hero (Adult)

Hey guys,

I want to start my first campaign in the next few days and want to share my preparation and results along the way.

Heres where I'm at:

Hosting/Tracking:

Traffic Source: TrafficJunky
I currently have $200 in my TJ account. Money is tight for me for the next weeks until I get my first paycheck from my new job, so of course I would like to be as close to breakeven as possible.

I want to target YouPorn Germany NTV A & B.

I want to spend the $200 in one day but get the most for my money. What I think about doing is to set my CPM bid relatively low and set my daily budget to MAX, as I picked up somewhere that this helps with bidding. Any advice on this bidding strategy?

Offer(s):
I want to run a SOI offer, but could only find one, which is a $2.60 offer from adsimilis (approx. 8-9% conversion according to AM). The alternative is an DOI offer from a4d for $7 (conversion rate unknown, trying to reach AM). What are your recommendations here? Is the payout from the SOI ok or too low to ever get this profitable?

Lander:
How many landers would you recommend testing? I'm thinking about only trying one lander to concentrate on finding good banners first. Is that too dangerous because I would leave data on the table?

Banners:
Will create 20-30. Did some research and I think that I have a few good ideas to improve what I found.

Time:
When should I run the campaign to make the most of it? Tomorrow (thursday) to get some data and refund my account before the weekend? Or wait until the weekend for first run?

Looking forward to your feedback!

Thanks,

Alex

Don't be scare of DOI , sometimes they work better !

For the LPs it's up to you but i start with 4 or 5 at least, and track also cr% for each one.
The rules LP work great so you should start with those.

Beyondhosting helped me out with my install. Its a simple process of going back and forth with the cert files. I opened a ticket with them and they walked me through the process.

+1 for BeyondHosting, would never have been to install that damn SSL without them! Best support ever

Thanks guys! I opened a ticket with beyondhosting now.

I also heard the phrase "dont be scared of doi" a lot today. And since I got accepted by CPAtrend a few hours ago and really like their offers and payout structure (weekly paypal if lead quality and volume is good) I will actually go with 2 of their DE DOI offers and split them 50/50. Good idea or should I do just 1 offer?

I will also do 2-3 landers.

Working on the landers and banners now and hope to get them approved tomorrow to start the campaign in the afternoon or evening at latest (DE time).
My tactic there is to get a lot of banners that are currently running and replicate their style with my own twist.

My process is usually:

Offer
Lander
Banner style/copy/headline
Creative

Obviously some of this testing overlaps. I like to go from hardest to easiest. So I'll throw up a bunch of banner styles with a lander and rotate offers. Keep testing banner styles while offer data rolls in. Pick an offer/offers then focus on LP. Test a couple of very different LPs (while still testing ad styles for CTR) then pick the winner.

After you've got a winning ad style/offer/LP, it's pretty easy to just plug creatives into the banner and tweak the LP. At that point it's hopefully already profitable, and I just test a bunch of creatives/tweak cta and tweak up the LP to bring ROI up.

In my experience, this is the best way to get the early testing done quickly and really get the campaign rolling.

for a DOI offer, you can try add "you must confirm your email after registration, other wise sluts member can't reach you" sth like that on ur rules style laner

If you're in this for the long run, SOI and DOI are really one and the same. It's all about EPCs anyway, but even if you're able to get higher EPCs from a SOI offer if those single opt-ins are not even backing out to doubles you probably won't be on the offer for very long.

But yeah, ultimately I would just worry about EPCs and disregard the concept of SOI/DOI entirely.

Thanks for the thoughts and tips about DOI/SOI!

I couldn't finish my ads in time for a review on friday so now I'm using the weekend to prepare and hit my campaign off on monday right after its approved.

I'm still not sure if I should start in US/CA or Germany. I surely have an advantage because I'm native German, but I read that Germany converts worse etc. Do you guys have a recommendation for this?

Going international is definitely easier than US/CA/UK/AU and the such, however I found germany is a difficult one to crack, still working on making it profitable and I can tell you it's not an easy one !

Honestly you got affiliates killing it in every country. Certain people are even running theyre own pay setups in country's like Afghanistan that have no offers available. With that said, you will always have certain country's performing better than others during certain times

Play with your strengths though. If your native German, i'd run some German dating tests and some USA tests. US has quite a few good offers atm

There was a presentation at Online Dating Summit a couple weeks back where they showed the statistics regarding $ spent on online dating per capita, and Germany was one of the lowest of any of the Western industrialized nations. France was near the top in comparison, but I can't remember specific figures; I guess I should have grabbed a copy of the slide deck :-/

...not that this will directly effect SOI/DOI rate but if the traffic doesn't back out for the offer owner, meaning they arent able to upsell the user into a paid membership, its not going to be a long prosperous road for you or the dating site owner.

Stacks said it right, every country is being used. And if its not dating, they are using the traffic in anyway possible because there is SO MUCH of it.

Europe, south america and the english speaking countries are well accommodated with offers, and either of these on their own can make you a steady fortune daily.

Use your skills to your advantage, slang is awesome for adult. If you don't know any slang, you can get translate gigs at fiverr.com for $5 and all the dirty slang you need!

The amount of new countries that will be opened in 2013 for dating will be quite massive. Eastern Europe, South America and Asia are going to continue to grow as long as payment options are available.
