Spamalot's Follow Along

I've decided to do a follow along on STM. I am mostly doing facebook at the moment.

Source:
Facebook

Offers:
Haltmich FB App (DE) -- Payout $1.60
Mate1 Sweet & Saucy (US,CA,AU,IE,NZ) -- Payout $4.00

Methods:
For each of the following offers I will choose about 3-5 images at first that I think will do well and then proceed to create a campaign for each image but making 5 ads for each campaign as polarbacon mentioned would help in find out which ad sticks in this thread Reasons Why Your Ads Suck.

For Mate1 I will use a landing page because it is required by the advertiser to do so. And for Haltmich I will direct link at first to test how it converts. Does anyone have any experience with Haltmich?

I will be Running Haltmich at Adsimilis and Mate1 at C2M.

Offer Landing Pages:

Mate1:

1/7/13-1/9/13

Over the last few days I set up a basic lander in the 5 Rules Style for Mate1. I launched ads in the style mentioned above and so far tested about 20 images that have worked in the past. Haltmich was just submitted yesterday therefore it is still pending

Mate1 Demographics:
Canada
Male
Age: 30-35
Interested in: Women
Relationship: Single
Estimated Reach: ~460k
Bid: .55

My Ad CTR is way whack i mean images that were doing .210% are getting shitty ctrs. My best CTR so far was .068% Any else noticing lower ctrs.

LP STATS:

Mate1 Revenue:
Cost: $248.37 Stats
Revenue: 220.48
P/L: -27.89
ROI: -11.2292%

Haltmich:
Cost: 0
Revenue: 0
P/L: 0
ROI: 0

As a side note I just received my copy of CA$HVERTISING today and so far this book is amazing if you haven't picked it up already you SHOULD!

Looks like a great start.
Your LP and conversion rate are decent atm.
Focus on getting that CPC down and you will be in the green.

01-10-2013 05:42 PM #5 bbrock32 (Administrator)

Great start!

-11% ROI is very near to break-even , so with some optimization on ads you will be profitable.

Also when you got ads nailed down split test with a completely different type of lander.

Rinse and repeat till you got 100% green showing on prosper

Also try to do more targeting and get a lower CPC. For Canada I was getting around $0.18-$0.22 CPC for another dating offer.

"Something is rotten in the state of Denmark"

Facebook is being very weird, ads with a lower ctr have a lower cpc than ads with a higher ctr what's going on?????

Still struggling on finding images with a good ctr.

My Haltmich Ads got approved my highest ctr was .046%

Trash!

Targeting For Germany is:

Tonight I am working on 2 more landing pages to have ready for when i finally a high ctr images.

When testing images is it best to take 1 image and make 5 similar ads in a campaign or to make a campaign with like 25 images and a 100$/day budget?

Now Some Stats:

Mate1:
Cost: $20
Revenue: $16
P/L: -$4
ROI: -20%

Haltmich:
Cost: $16.50
Revenue: $8
P/L: -$8.50
ROI: -51%

Not being able to get a good CTR is freaking annoying.

Nothing new to report today other than the fact that $#%@ing facebook denied like 100 of my ads which sucks major balls. Seriously starting to remember why i stopped advertising on facebook.

Well, I'm going to have another go at submitting ads, Lock and Load hopefully more news to reports tomorrow

Re: those ads with weird CTR vs CPC, they are waaaay below the CTR ceiling you need to break to get cheaper CPCs. So, they will both just be getting pretty much vanilla CPCs - but the average CPC FB displays will depend on how well they may have stuck at the beginning, the CPCs they got then and so on which fluctuates with the day and competition. Would be weird if the lower CTR ad had a lower average CPC at the end of a weeks worth of data but on a daily basis it's not really surprising.

Secondly, if you get a big batch disapproved then slow down. Too many disapprovals in a short time span is bad for your account. Get into the habit of submitting clean ads for other campaigns constantly to mask your approval/disapproval ratio. And don't submit the same images again if they have been disapproved multiple times. Make a photoshop batch filter that takes the images and flips them horizontally, or changes something subtle to make the image "fingerprint" different to dodge image blacklists FB has.

Thanks zeno, i always try to mod the image somehow before resubmitting either flipping it and adding borders but overall thanks for the good info.

01-12-2013 10:17 AM #11 thatguy (Member)

Don't get frustrated with the ads rejection. Try submitting lower numbers but good ones - it'll be good to go through the ad posting rules once again.

As for CTR, maybe you can improve by adding "Interest" to advertise to targeted traffic, hence improving your CTR. The traffic will suffer but you'll get a better CTR and hopefully higher CRs.

Keep going! Cheers!

1/12/13 Quick Update:

Just got 75 "cleaner" ads approved across the two countries to help even out my disapprovals:approvals ratios as zeno reccomended. I think i am going to wait until 12 am PST to set them live so they get distributed even what do you guys think?

I have also made a more "angled" and tighter targeted ad to test how that would work, the demo was cut in more than half to 180k estimated reach

Edit 6:50 CST:
I was informed that i have been given more CAP on the Mate1 Offer and a .35 Cent BUMP Woot.

1/13/13:

Went skiing today, had a blast and also got some angle ideas i might try. But i let my campaigns run today and was very surprised when haltmich broke where as i lost a bit of money on Mate1 it had been quite the opposite before.

My ctrs still sucked so I believe i am going to have to start focusing more on angles now otherwise i might not be able to get my ctr up high enough to profit which would suck lol.

Mate1 CTRs:

Haltmich CTRs:

In Germany i messed up somehow and left the bids at .57 from duplicating over campaigns so i paid alot more than i shouldve for the traffic to the point where i just broke even otherwise i wouldve had positive ROI.

I submitted about 100 benign ads to get my approval:disapproval ration in line again today

Mate1:
Cost: $37
Revenue: $13.00
P/L: -$24
ROI: -65%
Damn It!!!

Haltmich:
Cost: $42.19
Revenue: $42.00
P/L: -$.19
ROI: -0.5%

Got a bump to $2 from 1.60 and 100 more leads on haltmich so not bad. Im thinking if i should start using a lp for this offer, it could work maybe what do you guys think?

Also, lp ctr on mate1 dropped a little bit.

01-15-2013 08:31 AM #14 ytleung (Moderator)

germany traffic on facebook is not expensive.
we paying like $0.0x per click..

and benaughty.de facebook only is also good and better payout.
hit me up if you want give a shot..

01-17-2013 03:53 AM #15 spamalot (Member)

1/15/13:

Ever since I got that bump it seems my epcs have been down for mate1 its very weird. I've decided that I will no longer be going broad and focusing on angles, I am currently working on LPs for the angle I am testing.

One of the lps will have this format with text written using principles learned in Cashvertising can you guys critique the layout any reccomendations:

Haltmich is breaking even I just need to get my ctr up a little bit and i will be in the Green so i will be working on that.

Mate1:
Cost: $22
Revenue: $9.00
P/L: -$13
ROI: -59.0%

Haltmich:
Cost: $19.50
Revenue: $20
P/L: $.50
ROI: 2.6%

Broke a profit today for haltmich, not much but hey its a profit

Thanks to those who have offered tons of good advice so far in the thread, I appreciate it.

What's the CTR like for Germany after FB changed the recommended bid?

01-18-2013 03:02 AM #18 spamalot (Member)

barely got 1k imps all day so what im going to do is bump bid to 1 dollar and let it run tomorrow.

01-18-2013 04:34 AM #19 spamalot (Member)

Quick Update:

Had to Submit about 1000 benign ads to get 2 really risque images through, I have also set up the first date campaign with an lp and ads are approved so excited to get going tomorrow morning. Wish me Buena Suerte guys.

01-18-2013 05:39 AM #20 stackman (Administrator)

Did you try continuing the bid around 30 cents even though the suggested bid got boosted up?

If so try running at $1 for a bit, take a small hit and get your CTR up, then drop your bid

01-18-2013 05:42 AM #21 maynzie (Moderator)

Most of the time you won't even take a hit, it will just bring the traffic in and you will still pay considerably less then the high bid

01-18-2013 07:24 AM #22 joejoechen (Member)

i find changing bids fuck with the CTR a bit.. just make the exact same new ad bro.. to be on the safe side

01-18-2013 12:44 PM #23 spamalot (Member)

Just upped my bid for germany to 1 dollar and change lets see how it does,

01-18-2013 12:56 PM #24 adamp (Member)

I've been having to bid crazy high starting dating ads for women lately. The other day I started one for 2.85. I burned through $25 fast but the ctr was worth it and the cpc is now reasonable.

You should do well, good luck!

01-18-2013 01:59 PM #25 spamalot (Member)

Thanks for the tip something is definately wrong I have a strong feeling fb is testing new algos since its the beginning of the year

01-18-2013 11:42 PM #26 spamalot (Member)

1/18/13:

Fucking Hell,
I think the higher estimated bid for germany may be because of the fact that i was spamming a shitload of ads into one camp to try and get my money ad in. Do You guys think this might be a possibility. I think im going to put it to the test.

Finally get an ok ctr and the offer just stops converting what the fuck after i got a payout bump and a lead cap bump.

CTR:

LP CTR is no worse than it was before

Cost: $29.30
Revenue: $4.35
P/L: -$24.95
ROI: -86%

Ran about 15 bucks to first date no conversions.

01-19-2013 12:54 AM #27 adamp (Member)

So you were basically bidding against yourself? That seems possible but it would have to be a lot of ads, really small demo, or combo of the two. Stranger shit has certainly happened.

What time was it in Germany today when you got that traffic sample?

01-19-2013 12:57 AM #28 spamalot (Member)

around 4pm germany, and i mean all the other ads were at a lower bid

so like this

01-19-2013 03:07 AM #29 spamalot (Member)

as soon as i made a new campaign with less ads i got this

not sure if anyone else can confirm my findings

01-19-2013 03:22 AM #30 bigbyte (Member)

Keep in mind bids also depend on your account history. Hard to compare.

02-04-2013 01:24 PM #31 grassr00ts (Member)

excited to see the update sir

Got to start testing elements on my lp:

Some Stats:
Cost: $393
Revenue: $610
P/L: $217
ROI: ~56%
