How to Pass UDID in Tracking Link?

A lot of iOs app offers in the gaming and social/dating verticals require UDID to be passed in the tracking link for a conversion to be tracked successfully.

Can anyone explain how to do this from a non-technical perspective?

thanks

It requires your traffic source passing you the UDID via click macro. You cannot generate the UDID on your tracker's redirect because it is not accessible via http headers.

For what it's worth, ~80% of iOS impressions are now happening on iOS6 and using the IFA (identifier for advertising) in favor of UDID. If any advertising partner is still asking you for UDID, I would make sure to clarify if they mean IFA instead.

Few mobile ad networks will let you pass UDID. Mine will and unless you're tight with your reps at others, I can't think of any off the top of my head that can pass it to self-service advertisers.

re: IFA - it's going to be a while before majority of inventory passes IFA and advertisers are SUPER SLOW at adopting it for conversion matching. Most are still legitimately asking for UDID.

If you're on tapit, target app traffic and then select "udid" only. Macro is [unique_id]

UDID is available only within "in-app" traffic, as opposed to mobile web. The reason is, you need to be within an app to extract the UDID (UDID for iOS or IMEI / Android id for Android) from the device. When you are buying media, you should specify in-app traffic, so you are not sent mobile web traffic that does not have UDID/IMEI. Note that it is imperative that you pass these IDs (when required), else the installs will not be tracked, and you will be sending the advertiser free installs. Note that some UDIDs from traffic sources may be Sha1 or MD5 encrypted. Make sure you check with the advertiser if they are able to accept encrypted udids (most do, but some dont).
