Hey Stackers!!
YES - That's enthusiasm right there, not one, but TWO exclamation marks.
Full disclosure... there's a guy I want to PM but I joined up like a week ago and my post count is shitty, so I gotta get a conversation started.
But also... this is something I've been wondering, so two birds and one stone.
While there seem to be a fair few guys on here who are nailing it with $x,xxx per day and beyond, there'll be plenty also just trying to get their first $xx...
If you had 24 hours to spend on building the business, you'd imagine it'd happen faster than if you were a 9-5er.
Or even a 'service provider' (like me) still working with clients, but somewhat 'trapped' by having responsibilities and distractions coming from some bint spinster on the West Coast...
Personally... I'm looking to earn enough from AM to replace my present income, but have a ton more freedom / less responsibility...
At this point, that's $100 a day. Yep.
I'm soon going to embark on the 30-Day Challenge, which is more a vehicle for education than profit it seems...
So the question / conversation starter (fingers crossed) is this...
How do you balance your other responsibilities with trying to build a new business from scratch?
Bonus Question:
How do you stop a West Coast cat-lady (without the cats) from hassling you all day every day so you can get 200% more done... WITHOUT upsetting her, because that'll have repurcussions....?
ALSO:
How much time / how do you allocate time each day to building your business?
I'm trying to set up a plan so I don't burn myself out / slack off / put my face through a wall before the time is right
Thank you Stackers in advance,
Yours,
SB (I'm going under a pseudonym... the client might be anywhere....!)
P.S. - The 'Crossover' I'm talking about is the point where you can 'fire your boss'. You know the one... I was tempted to make this PS a 2nd post too, but I didn't. I'm a good guy.
Its called grinding. I've worked for over 24 hours in a day, don't ask me how but I did. How bad do you want it? I think its best if you just figure it out yourself. If you are older / have responsibilites then obviously limit your work but for most of us younger guys we can work much longer and harder so try and keep up
Yooooooo Vidivo
Yeah man, all makes sense... thing is I can probably get the bulk of my 'regular work' done in 3 hours a day, if it weren't for the catless cat lady... who isn't even the main client... she's the manager. But the most indecisive woman you've ever come across. Also horrendously poorly organised, so I get hit with work last minute. Which makes it difficult to organize 'extra-curricular' activities.
That sounded more porn-y than I meant it to.
I'm not complaining of course, nor making excuses. I've only just in the past few days realised 'that's enough of this shit', so I'm still trying to wrap my head around it and visualising the process of AM.
About 20 months ago I was working as a telemarketer, after being a waiter, after being a business student... Constantly finding myself with conflicting goals to my superiors and leaving soon after that.
So I decided one day 'I'll get a loan'... tried that out, nobody let me have one (I asked for about £25k 'to live on') so I went the credit card route instead.
I learned to write copy from one of the UK's greatest (in my humble opinion) and set about getting clients.
I spent roughly 13 months scraping by, picking up a few hundred dollars here and there, using the credit card to eat and pay rent... not going out, not seeing friends... that old story.
Eventually, after making the right contacts and out-performing the competition, I landed regular work, which is where I am now.
Unfortunately, as I mentioned elsewhere... I'm basically in a job again. And oh-my-christ I hate being told what to do almost as much as I hate criticism... (I get over it, I just don't like it y'know?)
First time around... Taking that initial leap and just leaving a decent income in the first place was the kick in the arse I needed... but I also lost a year, for all intents and purposes. Don't really fancy doing that again!
So this time I'm after balance... don't want to kill myself, don't want to shut off the rest of my life... but don't want to slack off either.
So the work ethic is there, sacrifices are something I'm familiar with... the whole thing feels a bit alien is all, so thought it'd be worth an ask
The sooner the new year gets here, the sooner things settle down, the sooner I can get started.
Thanks for your input Vidivo, appreciated
What Vidivo said, get organized and set realistic goals and future goals.
I use a day planner called ToodleDo My Referral Link :P. Works with all platforms, ISO/Android/Win/Mac/Web. It's free to use or you can upgrade to a premium subscription. I use this to plan my days and set realistic goals with due dates. I even use it as a grocery list!!
So give it a try if you don't already have a day planner and Good luck with everything!!
I built my business working 4 hours a day.
Cut out a social life, facebook, forums, video games, etc. and you'll find plenty of extra time you didn't know existed.
let me start by saying....
the whole "I just grinded for 24 hrs therefore I am a bwwasss and you suck" stuff I will never get....if there is one thing this biz could use in large doses, is modesty....not sure how all the ego's fit in a forum sometimes...
My brief rant aside...
Ya there was a time in my life when I was filling 2 roles 1 of Mr. Worker bee for 50hrs a week and one of Mr. CEO of my future biz....did I work lots of hours? Yes, did it take years off my life ? Yes, was it worth it in the end? If you measure by money then, yes.....but contrary to popular belief in the AM world, the number of Porches or bottles of Crystal does not determine ones happiness....You do..
Numerous studies have been done about worker productivity.....and most studies come to the same conclusion.....more hours worked at a one time leads to lower levels of productivity and creativity....so much so that most experts in the field are recommending power naps throughout the day....15-20 min naps....
please don't believe me....
http://www.inc.com/articles/201108/s...take-naps.html
....a quick little read about some rather large businesses that instituted "napping".....
so I am I biased againt this whole...."Grinding"....ya I am....I think its bad advice.....
I have found my personal productivity and most importantly CREATIVITY plumet the longer I sit in front of the screen....
PRO TIP: Creative thinking + productivity is one of the main pillars of success in the IM space
thats just my .5 cent on the whole "grinding" thing....
as to the other half a cent....
Cut the drinking and the tokin' to a minimum or remove it all together from your life....again seemingly this is a popular hobby in this biz....I can't even begin to account for the studies done on that whole thing....yet people still seem to think it needs to be a part of their life....not sure why....
hey dont get me wrong I still drink now and again...but day to day I don't...there is really no need to.....its not required for ones existence or to make some "killa" mobile landing page...
same with any other drugs for that matter....
My suggestion would be is to take the energy spent on drinking or whatever....and use that towards meditation instead.....one would be amazed at how powerful meditation is....esp when it comes to overall happiness, productivity and creativity.....(PRO TIP: the 3 are kinda linked
)
as for the remaining penny.....
I would highly suggest you read the Doc's blog..... http://www.charlesngo.com/
he pretty much spells it out for you right there in numerous posts....
9-5 here. I work in the Finance industry and the past 2 months I've set up a plan at my job so that I only work a 2 hours a day at the office and 3 hours at most depending if there is a big project. I used to work all day but those hours consisted of doing work for 15 min and break for 5 min, a time waster really and not as productive.
If you really think and be creative you can do your work with in a really small amount of time. Like what dr_ngo say, if you cut out all the unnecessary distractions such as FB, mindless surfing, chatting, and just do the work within 2 hours like your life depended on it, you will get a lot more done. Now I only work from 10am-12pm, but those 2 hours I really grind and get as much done as possible. And I think i'm more productive than evern. Then the rest of the day is making my own business and since I am new to AM, is learning and really being engaged.
Also I think it's really important to have some relax time to unwind and rest. You really need to enjoy your life at the same time build it to something you want and be happy.
