Hi
Another affiliate has ripped my landing page, its a new angle I came up with and the design is all my work, he is running it on facebook.
Not only has he stolen my page, he is also using my CDN and has hotlinked the images.
How should would you guys handle this? I was thinking of sending a cease and desist letter to his host and if that doesn't work follow up with a solicitor.
Does anyone have a C&D template I can use?
Thanks
I feel for you man. And I do get what you are going through.
But, man I would say, focus your efforts on scaling the campaign and optmimizing it. This is the nature of the business we are in - we rip each other shit. Smart ones of us , improve it, twist it etc, but fact is - we rip each other shit
So as said I feel for you, but put your focus on staying a step ahead of others who copy your stuff.
But yeah you could send C&D if it makes you feel better.
Now if this angle and LP is successful then you will have soon people ripping his landing page , and then even more people are ripping your stuff. And then even more. So are you really gonna pursue them all?
My point is, if you have a good unique campaign then hit it as hard as possible and scale as fast as possible. Unique, converting angel doesnt guarantee you success, it guarantees you a head start and thats all. Its just a matter of time until your lander will be raped to pieces if its succesful :S
happens all the time man, part of the game, sucks but it is what it is , as long as you stay ahead of them youll be good. let them scrape the barrel
Guess you guys are right.
Time to change the hotlinked images to a big picture of a penis.
Well if he is hot linking your images there are certainly things you should do about that...I'm sure you can use your imagination.
But do not count on being able to stop him or anyone else from copying your stuff. Even if you stop him if your LP works it's going to be ripped by someone out of your legal jurisdiction then you will wish you spent more time optimizing a better one than stopping the first guy.
Also if you do still feel the need to go the legal route the first thing any lawyer will likely tell you to do is to can this thread and not mention this stuff anymore. Believe it or not but posting someones name up publicly and accusing them of something like this is just asking for a libel counter suit. Not to mention you now have at least a few affiliates thinking, "Hmm I need to go find this guys LP so I can rip it as well because it must be working if it pisses him off enough to come here and complain about it."
Ok thanks for the advice I removed his name
You're all right, I wont spend any-more time on this, I will spend my time trying to improve what I do.
If anyone is interested, there is some nasty gay porn on his landing page now.
dick spinner!
Best advice: get used to it, read how to protect your nuts, and think how to come up with something new...
Going the legal way isn't the best route for us affiliate scumbags unless you run super white which I assume you're not if you're cloaking...
Yeah pretty much what everyone else said.
If I get something working well I always use that redirect code or whatever that tijn posted in his "Protect Your Nuts" post, it's pretty much a must in Adult imo.
How would you have proved that you created the landing page in the first place? Just because you created doesnt prove anything in court you have to have the lander / creatives copyrighted or licensed I would imagine..
Copyright is applied from creation, I also have source files on images.
Just a quick note.
If they're hotlinking your images it's very tempting to change the pics to dick pics / something bad. What happens if the ADVERTISER is checking out your landing page and see you're connecting their product with pictures of a spinning dick? Lets just say I almost got sued by the advertiser a few years back for shenanigans like this.
I've had some of the most copied landing pages in the industry these past few years. At first it really bothered me - what's the point of innovating if someone else can profit off of my risks and hard work? By innovating you are always going to be one step ahead of the competition and there's always huge rewards for the first guy to do something.
Don't waste energy worrying about things you can't control.
just move on man. it's affiliate marketing - you have no patent/trademark (hence arbitrage is not a long term business, always chasing the next trend/niche/traffic source etc'). Send a C&D to this guy, but you'll still have 30 others ripping the lp.
that's the game, instead of wasting time on a C&D just think about the next awesome angle. It's a losing battle trying to fight assholes ripping your shit. It's like all these adult companies suing tube sites for stealing their copyright material. Sue one, have 100 new ones popping up.
I know the feeling man, I used to send nasty threatening emails to peeps who ripped my lp. But eventually it's not worth the nerves and time.
Cheers
He removed the spinning dicks from his lander.
Thanks for the advice guys, I have moved on from this now, I've spoken to a friend of mine (a member here) and he has also had his lander stolen by this guy in the past.
I'm not worrying about it, Ill do what Charles said and just keep trying to innovate.
If you are moving on, mind sharing the lander?
New tactic: openly share your landers but quote fake conversion stats/data for them. xD
People seem to trust case studies. Burn all the copycats with rigged ones.
send a DMCA notice to the host.... it'll get removed ASAP. done it several times
