For me, I got into affiliate marketing for money. To help out my family during hard times, To make significant amount of money compared to normal part time/ full time jobs.
But recently, I've kinda realized.. To do this for a long time, I feel like Money is going to have to be the secondary goal. (To get more motivated)

Well, I don't think anyone would be here if it weren't for the money, or the potential for money, but you've got to remember, there are a hell of a lot of other (arguably easier) ways to make money, plenty of which are accessible to most people. (Get some business partners, save some money and start buying failing liquor stores in good locations and flip them etc. There are plenty of those around...)
Those kinds of businesses are tangible to most people, and I don't mean tangible as in brick and mortar, but tangible in the same way that a sculpture is tangible, but music isn't...you can describe a sculpture to someone easily, and probably even re-create it yourself with a little practice, but not so much with the music. You've been to a million liquor stores, you understand the concept fully, you know what people buy, you could do it yourself with a little practice.
The difference with a web business (for me at least, being from 0 tech background) is that it's new ground, and it's unlimited. It's not boring the same way a liquor store is. Friends and family don't even have the slightest understanding of what the hell you do, you are actually creating something new and original that millions of people see and respond to every day. It's exciting. Scaling your liquor store business might mean you plan to buy 1 or two new stores next year, taking a loss on those stores, and hopefully getting a nice little income bump in the years to come. Scaling your affiliate marketing business might mean going from making $100/day to 100k/day this year with no overhead.
My thoughts aren't very organized right now, but basically, yeah I think money and the lifestyle that comes with it is probably the main motivator for people to start any business, but like I said, only a certain kind of person actually seeks out affiliate marketing in the first place, and then actually goes for it.

Honestly, the money was appealing early on, but it was about the freedom for me.
Since the age of 10 I've grown up watching my dad do his own thing. He got laid off and then got into real estate development. I watching him work his own schedule, make alot of money, and have the freedom to do shit whenever he wanted. As I went through University I realized I wanted that same lifestyle.
I started my first website before I graduated and haven't looked back since!

Money is always gonna be a factor, and as volatile and downright fast paced this industry is, quite frankly I love it. I love the people I work with, I love connecting with new people, I love helping people, I love scaling, I love hitting new campaigns, but most importantly I love being in control.
I've personally never had a boss or someone above me, and I plan on keeping it that way. The way I live is all I know, I live and breathe the freedom of my own hours, not trading time for money but time as an investment and I love the opportunities being created for the future. A lot of us are very like minded people, all about personal growth so this industry is all I want for the next few years
Money in its most basic form, is useless. Its just paper. Its what money/assets/power can bring you. In essence money = power, and with power you have the world in your hands.
Yeah, Money used to be my main movtion, but i feel like..... by only focusing on money. I feel like.. I'm limiting myself as an affiliate. Like Mr. Green said. He gets motivated by playing the game (To beat his score. [record]) so he tries to beat it and gets better at playing it everyday. and he basically said he loves what he does hence he gets better.

I wanted that freedom as well.
Always was very into computers, the internet, etc. as a kid so naturally this seemed like a good outlet to try and make things happen.
Money itself is motivating though. It makes this gig feel more like a game, with money being the way to keep score. Except the score actually matters
Call me naive, but anybody who says they're not in this for the money is probably lying. If you were truly passionate about marketing and didn't care about money, wouldn't it make more sense to work for an agency that takes on non-profit clients?
I'm in this game for 2 things:
- freedom
- keeping my loved ones safe, educated and happy
Of course, money is the big incentive.
But no matter how much I dream of "the future me", again and again, when I think about the holy time when I will be able to finally get the success I'm trying to reach, every mental picture in my head is about freedom and happiness with my people
