Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday Stats (9)

Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday Stats

A dating campaign I've been running totally bombed (in a bad way) on Cyber Monday. Hardly any conversions at all - VERY LOW ROI. In comparison the Thanksgiving weekend bombed in the other direction = BIG ROI.

I figure it's probably pretty typical for dating because everyone gets focused on deals or they are getting distracted too much by them. They're in a buying mindset, but for tangible products.

What are your experiences with Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday conversions from different niches?

Would be useful to get a better understanding of how holidays impact niches.

Conversions were above normal for me with my international dating campaigns

One could hypothesize that during the thanksgiving holiday in the USA a lot of people were home that would otherwise be working (or, in the case of Saturday and Sunday, off-work for longer than usual) and had some extra free time to browse the internet. Today, they're back to work or school.

I think trying to pinpoint the true reason for this though is pretty inconsequential, especially when it could just be a coincidence.

Yeah, if there were others with the same data points in dating then it would've been worth discussion. But since someone has already thrown up something conflicting, it's less likely to be a trend - and just a fluke on my campaign.

I have always had really great performance during this whole week leading up to BlackFriday/CyberMonday.
One of my largest niches is directly related to frugal/savings which has only seemed to go up in volume, CTR, and even LP conversion.
Certain niches just have different seasonal strengths. These campaigns are much weaker in the Summer. I assume online-dating doesn't suffer the same way.

I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, but then most of my advertising is outside America. No surprises there, just the usual slow burn increase in activity as Christmas approaches.

I do think these events are blown out of proportion though. Sensationalised to hell...

There are a lot of blog posts about the boom in consumer activity around Cyber Monday, but you've gotta be a certain kind of affiliate to reap the rewards. I'd rather focus on the other 364 days of the year and, in theory, the spikes in sales should take care of themselves.

Speaking from a product owner's point of view, it was great.

Did about 40 sales when I regularly would have done 3 or 4. (Product launched this September)
