If you're thinking of sending SMS messages like emails then it's basically the same... you need to build a list, i.e. get people to opt-in to receiving SMS from you. You can get a shared shortcode from somewhere like txt180, unique shortcodes cost hella more as does premium SMS. I think you need to have a specific reason for using it to make it worthwhile. If you're thinking more along the line of an 'ad network' that sends SMS then I don't think that exists, it would probably blow anyway.

The laws around SMS spam are incredibly tight so if you're thinking of being crafty then don't, you'll get burned real bad. Companies have been done for SMS spam and fined like $1 per spam SMS and had sent millions. It's unlikely that any company that has a large SMS user base will tack other advertisers/affiliates stuff on to their messages, no one will put their ass on the line to that extent. I wouldn't do it even if I could as it would be 99% likely to bankrupt me.

Laws regarding sending spam SMS are very tight and companies have seen HUGE fines for SMS spams. Be careful.
