Need Help With Email Marketing - Emailing With Own Server? Etc.

I've been using aweber, but honestly I dont like it. I feel like they still own my data and I feel really on edge since they can just close my account any day since I'm emailing affiliate offers.

I dont really want to use another email service like icontact etc since they all still own your data etc, so I wanted to see if any of you big email marketers out there are willing to share what software I should get for my own server, how it works in general, and how should I go about setting up my server or anything I need....

Ive downloaded a pirated emailing software and tried it out before, forgot the name but never stuck with it since I just got aweber and their interface was much easier to understand. Im in this for the long term so definitely interested in starting right from the ground up and I doubt any big guys are still using aweber to send out millions of emails a day...

UPDATE: I used interspire, got it from BHW.

Just read something about it "Interspire + Interspire Email Marketing Multi Send Handler Addon and using emailsmtp dot com for smtp's is the way to go"

Any can confirm?

compliant or non compliant?

Also your pirated software is probably stealing your data.. wouldn't be the first.

Id say 80 percent complaint and like 20 percent non. I run all opt in with aweber, but I wouldnt mind trying to do some kw scraping and sending mail that way as well to see if it works. But i would have a unsubscribe button in there anyways so I wouldnt be emailing them ever again...

I'd say dont bother trying to do non compliant on your own, if you dont have a clue about it.
Mailing non compliant is almost an art.. you need a proper setup, fresh ip's and all that means nothing if you can't inbox your data.

Mailing with aweber is as easy as it gets as long as you are compliant. Mailing on your own is a whole different game and some pirated software from bhw wont do you any good.

Have you tried using sendgrid yet by any chance? It's really nice whitelisted IP addresses to mail from your own server.

This has been used with good success: http://www.phplist.com/

As others have mentioned, there are some technical challenges to running your own email box. I'd install something and play around with it before you dive head first. It may be easier for you to run a hosted solution.

Any thoughts on this:

Interspire is okay, but their product is buggy, and updates take foreeeeeeeever.
You can also consider arpReach (which was on sale for $100 off recently) - which is what I'm running in conjunction with Amazon / Sendgrid for the SMTP end.
There is also another one, developed by some Turkish dudes, which looks quite active, oemPro (octeth.com).

Both oemPro and arpReach and in their own class above Interpsire, and are updated reguarly.
