CPVlab sucks (17)

CPVlab sucks

Hi Guys,

I've just started to buy significant amount of traffic (at least for me).
I got approximately 60 000 page views per hour.

I run a VPS with 4.5 GHz - 7.5 GB, this VPS is used only for CPVlab. My landing page is hosted on another dedicated server + CDN

The CPVlab VPS shows only an average of 20% CPU load and 63% ram load

But the redirects from CPVlab just take more than 9 seconds, it's just a shame, I've lost a significant amount of clicks because of that. To make sure I've modified my links and now I've more than doubled my ctr....

My question is:

What do you guys use for 60K+ page views / 30K clicks per hour?

Am I right in thinking that CPVlab is just not a good fit with this amount of traffic ?

Which tracking system would you recommend? (Short term I want to push 10 times more traffic).

Thanks

You are using a VPS to push that kind of volume... and you wonder why everything is slow... Are you serious?
Other than that, go custom... None of the trackers on the market can take a lot of traffic really, you always have to re-install etc etc.

CPVlab can be pretty slow even with low volume. I had to do some serious tweaking with my VPS to get it in acceptable levels. And usually it's not the server, it's slow PHP code & MySQL combination that causes lag. I mean I can easily write a tracker server (with database) that can take over 20000-100000 reqs per second easily. It's just matter of picking the right tools for the job. It's the overall package of different features why I won't be writing my own tracker unless I'm absolutely forced to.

True, it's a lot of work, but the basic features can be done quick in a matter of a few weeks if you work on the side or faster if you hire someone, and the rest is work over time, always adjusting to your needs. Buut, you won't have all these issues that you have with the commercial trackers.

And if you really pushing volume, why wouldn't you? It's money you leave you on the street, literally.

Just get a real server instead of rely on a vps , hire a sysadm and let him optimize it.Cpvlab is crypted with ioncube and the code is not well optimized , however with a good server , 30k clicks /hour (10 click every second....) are nothing ...

@m00n404 : what kind of server spec to push that kind of volumn ?

even a basic one , 10 click every second is really a low load , i've just benched cvplab for the sake of curiosity , my dedi for logging is a quad 3,2ghz / 32 gb ram and the cpu load with that volume is near zero (with varnish cache but memcache/apc or whatever will suffice).I've to say that cvplab has been deioncubed and optimized manually as i don't like hidden code on my servers without knowing what it does , but with the original one the results are pretty the same..

Hmm.

Something occurs to me here. Writing a full tracking system sounds like a terrifying amount of work - but I wonder how much work it would be to write a faster tracker that wrote to CPVLab / Prosper 202 database formats? That way, the custom code would just have to do the tracking, not the graph output, reporting, etc.

And yeah, 10 req/second should be a very low load indeed on an optimised system. A dedicated server should be able to handle that load even if you're sending it to an uncached Wordpress install!

vps in general is poor io performance. put your mysql on a dedicated box with proper hardware

Okay, what's the ideal configuration for the best performance in your opinions? Dedi, obviously but what specs?

Have you tried an SSD VPS server? Better I/O performance and significantly reduces bottlenecks.

Specs dont have to be that interesting. Just make sure you use a SSD and put in like 2-4gb ram (depending on if you run mysql for cpvlab only) with a quadcore. I use rackspace cloud databases with no problems so far. Not sure about their specs though, just way faster than a cloudserver(vps) + mysql. They probably have a nice stack they built it on

I've been using the same setup and its definitely working better than cloudserver + mysql. Plus it provides an additional layer of performance security. Before I had cpvlab running in the mysql on the cloudserver with other databases. A few times cpvlab took the mysql down and the other databases with it. That hasn't happened since i made the switch to cloud database.

Make a better track it and then sell it.. Millionaire in the making ehhe

We've done over 1 million clicks in an hour on cpvlab with one of our VPS3072. You just can't expect to view any of that statistical data quickly.

Our SSD VPS really changed the game on performance for volume.

Hi Tyler,

How many clicks can a report be run on if using a VPS for CPVLab - my issue is even with just 10K-20K clicks/day, I am having trouble running a stats report for a 2-day time period. Just times out.

We've found that most users with more than 2 million clicks have issues. 10-20k clicks should be nearly instant to load the stats interface.
