I know that most of you will say you prefer CPL dating offers because it may be easier to monetize the traffic.
But think about how many times you've been taken off offers time and time again.
Running only a handful of leads to get optimized off. Because of too much male traffic, or wrong age or simply doesn't back out for the advertiser or they don't tell you at all.
Truth is, I work for a dating advertiser and I can tell you that there is no way to check true quality of traffic under 50-100 leads. The average lead to sale ratio across most dating offers is 2-5% depending on traffic quality.
Their CPS goals range from $50-$100. So, if they can't make at least 2 sales per 100 leads your are sending, it won't work.
The only exception to this is if you are sending crap quality SOI leads and none of them DOI. Then I can understand why you would get kicked off so quickly.
Also, it's good to know that ALL dating CPL campaigns scrub. How do you think they can payout $5-6 CPL and still be profitable? At least with CPS, you don't have to worry about any scrubs.
CPS is more stable and long lasting than CPL IMO. But I'm sure you can argue that.
I've been media buying for this dating advertiser for over a year and have gone through hundreds of tests, working with direct site buys and ad networks.
Guess what? There are only a handful of quality dating sources that provide a high enough lead to sale ratio to scale. On those sources, we have run traffic there for months at a time on autopilot, renewing month after month.
I can tell you right now that direct site buys work best across the board. So, fire up Quantcast, Alexa, Double Click Ad Planner, WRW, Compete.com or whatever you use to find out where traffic is coming from to the offer you want to promote, and hit up those sites direct.
If you can build a list along the way, even better. Mail by far converts the best and all supers tend to use mail to scale hard. I'm talking 50-100 sales a day @ $50-$100 payouts CPS.
There is a world outside of FB and POF.
Remove the middle man and you will kill it! You can start with smaller buys around $500-$1k and build up to $10k-$30k/mo. There are tons of sites that are under monetized or have webmasters that have no idea what they are doing.
HINT: Pop Unders works really well. Aim for $2 or less US CPM.
As you all know for CPL campaigns, it comes down to CPC vs EPC.
When it comes to CPS, you want to shoot for $2-3 DOI CPL to make it work.
Hope this has provided some insight into the world of dating CPS.
Good luck stackers!!

Good info. Are we talking about adult dating leads here?
Mainly adult, but same theories can be applied to mainstream.
awesome stuff!! would love to hear more about testing strategies for dating media buys
glad you like it!
for sure, what else do you want to know?
Shit. Awesome stuff man
Both, in terms of the network by going direct to the advertiser and the ad network by going direct to the site.
Cheers interesting stuff.
I have done quite a few direct to site buys with weight loss niche, but not dating.
If you don't mind me asking, What is your criteria for choosing these sites? Do you just hit up various adult sites direct?
I thought most adult sites used networks like traffic Junky, etc meaning self serve anyway ?
1. Good Alexa ranking
2. High US trafffic
3. Ad spots: pop unders, nav bar tabs, IM floaters, NTV banners
4. Flat rate or CPM
Hope that helps. There are TONS of sites not on the networks btw. Even if they are, just go direct.
Jon's legit
good advice. I'm curious, in your testing, what is the average amount of time it takes for someone to convert to a paying user? So let's say you send $1k in traffic to the offer on day 1, approximately what amount of time (on average, in your tests) does it take until you make that $1k back? I know a lot of times with CPS deals, the user could take anywhere from 1 day to 2-3 weeks to convert into a paid user.
great question! I would say 3-15 days. But some offers even offer CPT (cost per trial) - around $30 payout when someone signs up for $1.95 3-day trial which come in same day traffic is sent.
3 - 15 days that's a big range haha. So basically when you run these campaigns, you're floating cash 3 - 15 days in advance until you (hopefully) make it back. So I can imagine starting off would be the scariest part, not knowing whether or not your traffic is going to be good / convert. I think maybe a good strategy would be to start small, or if you're currently doing CPL, slowly taper off some of your CPL traffic, maybe like 30-40% to the CPS and wait and see how it goes.
I hear you. But I think the better strategy would be to start with CPT (cost per trial) as trials come in same day as traffic is sent, so there is no lag time.
