Hey guys, I was wondering what VPS you recommend for tracking with prosper202 and lp's? I currently have a HostGator VPS and need to know if I should keep it or dump it for a better service provider?
Peace of mind TIP: Open an account on pingdom.com and monitor your tracking domain like it's your precious gold!
I'm on ServInt at the moment.. No problems so far, although most affiliates use BeyondHosting, wiredtree etc.
Thanks affbooster!
I like the idea of using pingdom for monitoring the servers. I appreciate the tip!
Yesssir, Pingdom monitoring all vital domains is necessary! Get android app/sms notifications set up. Note, relying on email is silly if that email address is via your server - if it goes down you wont get the emails!
Check out http://www.retailmenot.com/s/pingdom
I think I managed to get the basic plan ($10/month) for an entire year for only about $30-40. Cant remember how I did that, but I did.
For monitoring affiliate tracking links the only service I've seen worth considering was OfferSnitch as they rolled out international link tracking.
Thanks for the tips zeno! May I as what VPS do you use?
I noticed your from NZ. Have any tourist spot suggestions? I'm going there in November! WOO!
I'm with StormOnDemand at the moment, though when I have more time to do marketing I'll probably move to a VPS with Beyond.
November eh? You could always visit Lorenzo's luxury mansion if you have $x,xxx to throw at him. Are you going for an adventure holiday or what? I'm from the far north, we have great beaches up there. Then their is Cape Reinga where you can see two oceans meeting. Bay of Islands is a tourist hotspot, can go on cruises, whale watching and swimming with dolphins, etc. Rotorua is a major tourism centre with tonnes of geothermal stuff, luging, zorb balls, skydiving etc. The other big adventure tourism place is Queenstown in the South Island. Beautiful city amongst mountains, during the summer its buzzing with paragliding, helicopter tours, bungee jumping, jetboating, etc. I did a skydive there from 12,000 feet on the most beautiful day I've ever seen.
Depends on your budget and what you want to do I suppose.
+1 for beyond hosting.
Looks like Beyond it is. Thanks for the input!
@Zeno - We are going to be on a cruise but skydiving is at the top of my list. I'm not sure who to jump with when I get there. What company did you use? I remember my wife saying something about dolphins, so I suppose we might venture out for a swim.
I jumped with some place called Nzone. A cruise ship? Where abouts is it porting? We get quite a few through Dunedin actually.
As a matter of fact I will be stopping by Dunedin for about a day. The itinerary says Port Chalme. The cruise is about 2 weeks. Head out from Sydney and cruise all around NZ. We booked it over a year ago, so we're excited to say the least.
Yeah Port Chalmers. You'll no doubt get bussed into the city from there. I'm sure they will have tours organised for you, e.g. the albatross colony, Larnach castle, etc. If it's a sunny day the botanic gardens are great and the Chinese Gardens are alright. Dunedin isn't fantastic for tourism tbh. Most people like to look around the university as well because it's pretty nice on campus. I seem to be almost crossing paths with a lot of STM people in November, but narrowly missing them. I will be in the US from the 6th-18th November. Hit me up via PM if you're arriving outside those dates and I can recommend places to go, catch up for a coffee etc. Could also recommend a place to go skydiving - I assume you'll be stopping at numerous ports up the East Coast.

Enjoy your new VPS.
Good idea. Back on topic.
So after talking with a few people and seeing a lot of suggestions on this forum, I will be going to get a VPS from Beyond. Thanks everyone for your help!
I'm thinking about getting the VPS from BH. Is Starter ($45.99/mo) enough for beginners or VPS512 ($49.99/mo)? I'm no tech guy so I don't know about these things much at all
Hmmm, hard to say. If you're just starting out I think either will work perfectly well for you. You're unlikely to need WHM/Root access. I've only heard good things about LiteSpeed but if you were moving up to traffic levels where there was a clear advantage from it vs not having it, I am unsure whether the 512 vs 1 GB burstable RAM would outweigh the LiteSpeed advantage. It does however say the VPS512 allows upgrading so that is important as well, since if you blow campaigns up and need more server power you are in a position to do so on the fly. That's one of the advantages of these VPS systems - on the fly changes to the resources available to your virtual server = less risk of bottlenecking your campaigns when scaling to new heights.
Taking all that into account, I would probably go with the VPS512. When the time comes that you need some more powaaah, like omg right NOW, you can upgrade straight to the VPS1024 and let the traffic flow. You could also ask BeyondHosting or wait for Tyler to pitch in, he will no doubt have a reliable recommendation.
Beyondhosting + LiteSpeed Web Server + cdn or rackspace hybrid.
LS is only available on VPS1024. The 512 is the bare minimum for anything to actually work.. if your serious about making money you want our VPS1024 or better. You can't make chicken soup with chicken shit, we just offer the lower packages for customers hosting basic websites that need additional functionality.
Beyond Hosting are popular and very good. There's also storm on demand and wiredtree.
