Heya!!!
I'm currently on Beyond Hosting VPS plan right now.
but i'm thinking of going Dedi.
is going dedi from vps worth it?
I'm mainly trying to do this for..
1. faster redirection.
2. STM mobile tracker (My load goes through the roof after several hundred clicks on VPS)
3. FASTER FASTER = MO' MONIES.
are you guys currently on dedi?
and if you are on beyondhosting, what dedi are you on?
thinking of making a similar move myself, maybe tyler or someone else who is knowledgeable on this could weigh in here, it's not so much the cost as it's not a huge price jump relatively speaking but I would be curious to hear what most of you guys who are doing $x,xxx / day + are running on? Thanks!
Unless your current VPS is crapping out on the volume you are pushing, there is no reason to upgrade. If you guys just put all your images on a cloud server you will most likely see a huge performance increase for almost no cost at all. I recommend the Rackspace cloud.
It's just hard for me to use STM's mobile tracker on VPS hosting right now. but BB said the 1.1 V would be a lot better............
purchased semi-dedi from beyondhosting. gonna check out its performance once my server's ready.
if i see any differences in performance. i'll let you guys know.
setup a ticket with beyond and ask them , to run the data and see if it will help, they have done it for me in the past, and they will not try to sell you something you dont need.
yup, that's what they said. but they said it's gonna help me run the STM mobile tracker.
Interested in this as I'm reading the mobile guide from this week on. Anybody else facing issues wit hthe $75 versions beyondhosting VPS while using it purely for the mobile tracker ?
Do your best to commit yourself to a dedi server if you're serious about making money because a dedi = transaction server $$$$ (heard the cha-Ching sound?).
Reason no.1 would be the speed and redirection time, needless to say that it's the main reason.
Secondly, going from VPS to dedi would give you a motivation of "working harder" because on a $75 plan, you would like "come on, it's only $75, I don't give a shit about it...". On the other hand, you'll know what you should do when you're paying $500/month.
This is me :P
You should have multiple servers, if its multiple VPS make sure to ask if they are spread out so your not on the same host node.. point is defeated if you are.
I recommend dedicated for all tracking but most people don't want to shell out the money till a few hours of failure causes them 2-3 times the cost of a dedicated monthly.
A lot of good info in this thread, keep it up!
I agree with Tyler on this.
Don't be cheap with your servers, especially if 1-2 hours of downtime will cost you more than your monthly hosting fees.
Many years ago, I had to learn this the hard way. My sad story here
Always keep an eye out on how much load your server is under. When it gets to be too much, start looking into beefing up your server.
For easy scaling you may want to look at putting your server collection behind a load balancer.
