Mobile App Installs: Direct link or landing page? (14)

Mobile App Installs: Direct link or landing page?

I'm currently running an app install offer and direct-linking it straight to the Android store. The CVR is sitting at 0.73%.

I know landers are important for lots of mobile offers but it seems logical to me that when promoting an app install, you want as few clicks as possible between the user hitting the ad and pressing the Download button.

I'm going to try an LP anyway, but do you find they help or hinder app install offers?

Really depends on your creative. Yeah, so best thing to do is split test with a lander.

Your CVR seems low, improving your creative may help even if you are DL.

Nothing is "logical" mate, let the data decide what is best

You should definitely try with some landers in the mix and see how that affects your CR.

I'd definitely make a LP for a game. Should be easy to put together some screenshots or even find some videos highlighting the gameplay, if the app store page doesn't do a good job of selling it, which they often don't.

I typically direct link with mobile game apps. However, I've never seen CRs that low, even at early stages. Have you tried other apps?

Are you looking at your carrier and handset data and see if you can cut any fat there?

After my first day of testing, my small amount of conversions isn't showing any particular trend yet in the carrier/handset realm. I did run some numbers and see that I got lots of clicks but no conversions at all until 2 p.m. PST - when east coasters are getting home from work. (Omitting these clicks upped the CR to .8%)

So going forward I'm going skip running ads during the early morning hours and concentrate my budget on evening and late-night.

This is my first shot at mobile. I'm definitely going to look at the creatives I'm using (currently stock; getting a list of top performing creative from my AM) and look into making my own. I have design experience so I can make it nice, but I've heard repeatedly that "ugly converts better" so we'll see!

It really depends on the game/app. I see some games when fully optimized converting at 1% some at 6%, It really depends on how the client presents the app on the itunes or google play landers.

Yeah some of the apps out there just aren't good. Be careful with iOS installs too they are a lot more challenging to track than android since you can't append tokens at the end of the URLs so the technology used to track unique installs can be a bit weird.

I know this might seem super obvious, but changing your banner's CTA button from "click here" etc to "download app" helps.

Most app developers rely on things like UDID and fingerprinting technology to do tracking on iOS. With android since you can pass params in the URL postback systems are fairly accurate but with iOS its about 80 to 90% accuracy from various partners I talked to. As an affiliate you shouldn't worry but understand that not all your leads are going to track properly.

Best,

Alex

I'd prefer direct link, but you mustn't neglect the creative - it is important as much as the link, maybe even more!
