Hey guys!
I'm just getting started taking my shot at IM and would like to start by taking my shot at Facebook. Unfortunately, it is painfully evident that maintaining a Facebook account, even if you are running legit and abiding ads, is difficult to say the least.
I don't current have a Facebook account (I'd waste too much time following others lives instead of focusing on my own). I went to the "Create and Ad" link on Facebook's advertising page and of course they want me to sign up for a Facebook account. At first I thought I'd just sign up using my name and all my regular credentials. But then I started thinking: what if the account gets banned - that'd be the end of my personal facebook account, so then if I decided to use the service in the future I'd be SOL. As well, my wife has a photography business that she has a presence on Facebook for as well as her own personal account. We'd be logging in from the same I.P. so I'm concerned something could happen to her account as well. Just to note I am in the U.S. as well if that of any importance to this process.
Any advice here, are my concerns valid? If so - can someone give me alternative ways to maybe just get a pure advertising account? I see that many people have multiple accounts but it's seems that'd be difficult to do unless you guys are using different names and addresses for your multiple accounts? My plan was to try to be legit as possible in my advertising - is this a pipe dream/can you make money abiding by their ad rules?
Any advice or tips are appreciated! I hope that at some point I can help others once I'm not a complete noob!
You can make a 'business account' but they take them more seriously, recently I heard they were wanting people to provide proof of being the Agency of Record for advertisers etc, and additionally they cant manage pages. I would just make a second personal account and use it for your ads. In the advertising centre you can make an ad group and manage two accounts so you wouldn't have to log to and fro between personal and advertising to manage the ads. If you are running clean verticals you are unlikely to have any problems with accounts being banned, it's not at all a problem. The idea FB presents difficulties with keeping accounts is not true per se. It's just they are reasonably good at getting rid of advertisers and affiliates who break their ToS/ad guidelines. If you are a legit advertiser this is actually a good thing as it reduces competition.
If you are running 'safe' stuff you have no need to worry. In any case, just use different timezones for each account and you can argue it was done to mitigate the traffic drop at midnight. FYI I have my account and a second account, both managed together, clearly both me/same funding sources etc, I log in and out from the same IP and into my mums account to do stuff for her.
TL;DR - Make a personal account, add friends, i.e. a legit account. After a few weeks make a second account, use a similar name e.g. Myname Smith, add funding source to that account. Go back to personal account -> make ad group in advertising centre -> add second account -> only need to log in from main personal account to work with the other ad account. If you've never done FB you're probably not in a position to get all your accounts banned.
Thanks for the advice! Is it un-reasonable to assume you one can make decent profit beging 100% legit or is that a pipe dream?
What? More money is made through clean/branded/legitimate advertising everywhere, worldwide in every form there is, ever. We affiliates who do naughty stuff are minor components in the whole scheme of things. With FB specifically, a lot is spent in the gaming/daily deals/retail/leadgen/customer acquisition/brand awareness areas. It's likely a lot more money is made through these kosher verticals than dating/bizopps etc. Can you make money being 100% clean? YES YES YES.
Zeno,
Thanks for the great replies! One more - does Facebook look down on all dating offers or are they really just against offers being run that are violate the TOS?
I.E. say you were to run safer dating offers to females (as women don't necessarily need the revealing images), will you still likely get banned running these offers or as long as you keep it clean you will be OK (running dating offers)?
Thanks for the great advice!
No FB doesn't dislike all dating. Always check every offer page against MyWoT, the majority of them will be red/orange = no go on FB. They will disapprove anything going to a red MyWoT rated page regardless of how clean the advert is. If you are running offers that are safe on FB then you don't really risk banning unless you keep submitting disapproved images, or keep trying to sneak through adverts that they would normally disapprove. Advertising to females is going to be a lot safer in general.
