LI Keyword Match Guide

Hi,

I'm trying to understand how keyword matching works with LI.

My account specialist mentioned that their "system looks for the shortest exact match" meaning that if you bid on stackthatmoney it will trigger a pop-up if someone types stack or money

I find this approach very broad am I misunderstanding something? It looks weird that there's no way to go to a more granular level

Looking at this from a broader perspective I'm wondering if someone would like to share some details about how their keyword matching system works.

Thanks

i think your understanding of the matching mechanism might not be right.

if your bidding stackthatmoney

it will NOT pop for users with just stack or money in the URL

it will pop for stackthatmoney and stackthatmoney forum

but

if 2 people are bidding

person A targets "stackthatmoney"

and

person B targets "stackthat"

person B will pop first

Hi tijn,

Thanks for your answer, I really wish it works this way as well!

Sorry for being picky but here is the question I asked their support (I've changed keywords)

"Does the keyword stackthat will trigger an impression if the domain is
mystackthat?"

Here is the reply I got

"Yes it would trigger for that keyword. Our system looks for the shortest exact match. So if it was the reverse (targeting mystackthat but the user just typed in stackthat) it wouldn't make a match since mystackthat isn't contained withing the word stackthat."

Do I need to have a walk, take a deep breath and read this again or is this reply from their customer support is contradictory with what you wrote tijn?

Isn't it who has the highest bid still?

As in person A has a 5 cent bid and B has a 3 cent bid, A will pop first?

Yeah maynzie - your right - highest bid counts first

Ahh yessir!

I know its been mentioned on here before, but I think its buried deep in the posts:

You can steal all your competitions traffic by going lower and lower on these keywords, till you find a cut of the keyword that has no competition on it, with in reason though so you know it will only trigger the target you want. From there just bid above the top of the other keywords and you will get all the traffic in first spot, without your competition realising

For example:

trythisskincare.com 5 competitors 5 cent bid
trythisskincare.co 5 competitors 5 cent bid
trythisskincare.c 4 competitors 5 cent bid
trythisskincare. 2 competitors 4 cent bid
trythisskincare 2 competitors 4 cent bid
trythisskincar 1 competitor 3 cent bid
trythisskinca 1 competitor 3 cent bid
trythisskinc 0 competitors (bid 6 cents on this bad boy here and you will be taking all of the above in first place)

Aha yeya!

I believe so yeah, I've done it but I'm not sure if I was getting all the traffic but I was definitely getting decent traffic
