My goal is to hit $250 profit/day during this follow along. This is my second follow along. The first one was on POF and it didn't go too well. I learned a lot during the process but didn't do my part in updating it regularly. This one will be different.
Where I'm at now:
I started on FB about two weeks ago and just hit my first $100 profit day
. This weekend I had between $100-165 revenue each day. My account is still $50 max daily spend but it should be increased soon because I've hit the max the last 3 days. This is the good news. The bad news is I'm starting to get a feel for the frustrations of FB. I'll talk about that in a minute and hopefully get some advice from the veterans
.
Offers:
The main offer I'm running is a niche dating offer in the US. I've also been testing some international dating and some app installs.
International offers:
These offers show promise. I'm having a difficult time with the females, but the males sure do love to click. I have some campaigns paused right now that are getting really cheap clicks from males with a pretty nice ROI. I'm currently trying to dial in the females so that I can maintain a good male/female ratio and stay on the offer as long as possible.
This is one place I could use some advice. My current plan is to just keep trying until I can get female leads at break even or even slightly -ROI. But I also thought about talking to my AM and just seeing if the advertiser would accept mainly male leads for a lower rate. I'm not sure if this is common or even a good idea though?
US offer:
This is where I could really use some advice. I've been working on this offer for the last week or so and every ad has been approved except for a few where I tried to push the limit a little on the images. Now all of the sudden FB doesn't like the offer. I'm getting this for the reason they're being denied:
"The content advertised by this ad is prohibited. Ads for dating sites with a primarily sexual emphasis such as sites with "couple" or "group" options, or that promote casual dating, hook-ups, or affairs are not allowed. Also, ads may not promote "mail-order bride" services."
I checked the offer on mywot.com and it's now red
. I believe it was yellow before but I don't remember for sure. When I asked my AM about running it on FB he didn't mention anything about cloaking so I'm thinking it may have recently changed. So basically I don't know what to do now. All of the ads that were previously approved are still running but I'm assuming it's just a matter of time before they get pulled?
I think my 3 main options are:
1. Write off this campaign. Pause all the ads and just try to apply what I've learned to other campaigns. This would be painful because this is my first campaign that has actually turned a little profit and I've barely had a chance to run it.
2. Let the ads run until they aren't profitable and see what happens (probably a ban?).
3. Cloaking. I don't know too much about this or the costs associated with getting it set up. I'm guessing it's probably not something I should mess with at this point? I also wanted to avoid going this route in an attempt to get some campaigns going that would be stable.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading everything. Any advice would be great.
If it's now red on MyWoT and you're not cloaking you've got a ticking time bomb there. Are your ads going to a page/URL you control which then redirects out to your affiliate link (THEY SHOULD BE!!)? I.e. a custom redirect script or a prosper/cpvlab URL? If so I would pause the campaigns going to that red-flagged offer immediately and modify your redirection to go to a SAFE page. By safe I mean something relevant to the ad but completely trustworthy. E.g. A Facebook fanpage of some dating site like eHarmony, or some dating site main page that is super-green on MyWoT. The longer you leave those ads going to that red-rated dating offer the more likely they are all going to get retro'd, campaign is dead and possible ban.
If you're not in the business of nuking through accounts its not worth the small amount of profit you MIGHT be able to get out it. You're on low budget though so lol, no chance.
Don't cloak now. One moves toward cloaking when they know what they're doing and have experience making the platform work by legitimate means.
Congrats on getting a profitable campaign up though! In the mean time, research that offer - is it new? What kind of weighting do the ratings have on MyWoT? The advertiser may be able to save it and pull it into yellow/green and then you could unpause campaigns > change redirection > profitopolis once more. Otherwise, consider porting the campaign angle and approach to something like PoF? You say you did a follow-along on PoF, was it this offer/angle?
I believe you can get others profitable, but once redirect your campaign to a safe page, turn it on once is super green again, try to build more profitable camapgins, so you won't get frustrated
I will go ahead and pause the ads. I do have it redirecting to a CPV url so I'll change the offer URL in that to something safe. There are some similar offers I'm going to try. I've been warned that the CR% is much lower overall, but based on my expected CPC it should still have an ROI of somewhere around 50%.
The previous campaign I was running on POF was a mature dating offer. I tried it on FB and couldn't quite get it into the green. I'm going to try it again though now that I've learned a little bit more.
My daily spend got increased to $250 but for some reason it still capped out at $50. Does it take a day to go into effect or something?
I'll be sure to give some updates as I get some more campaigns launched.
My international campaigns are starting to pick up a little. Still not getting the CTR I need though.
So today I submitted some variations of a few of my images that I know get clicks. I looked through some of the threads on raising CTR and applied some different borders and image enhancements. If I can raise my CTR a bit using those tips I should be in much better shape.
I also have a UK mature dating campaign that has been approved so I should have something to report on that tomorrow after it gets some impressions.
I submitted some creatives to my AM for approval for some other mature dating offers. Hopefully I hear back on those soon and can get that campaign set up and approved by Friday.
Give a try to CrazyCTR top 50 tweaks. Pick a potential winner image(the one that has a good ctr without any effects applied) and apply first 20 tweaks(or more, depending on your testing budget), you should find some variations with higher CTR. You have a 7 day free trial.
Still waiting on approval for the mature dating creatives.
I launched a campaign last night testing out the Are You Interested dating app. Early in the day it looked promising. But it bombed pretty hard by the end of the day. Over my first 70 or so clicks I was getting roughly 10% conversion rate (30+ females in US). At that point it was slightly profitable and showed promise. Even though my CTR sucked (.05-.095 for most ads) and my CPC was near my EPC I let the ads keep running to get some more data.
Overall on the day I ended up with 262 clicks and 15 conversions. So a 5.7% conversion ratio. The original plan was to make some new ads and try some more refined targeting but I don't think it's gonna be worth it anymore, at least not in the US. I would probably need the conversion rate to double in order to see some good profit.
I think I need to either try this app internationally or go back to the drawing board, maybe both. Lately I've only been targeting females. My thought process has been that if I can get the females profitable or breakeven that the males should be profitable. Is this realistic in most scenarios?
As usual, any comments are welcome.
.05 - .095 in my opinion is a very low ctr. Personally I tend to aim at .2+ because I can either run decent volume with cheap clicks, or huge volume with average clicks... If its below a .15 then I let it collect some data while i look for other pics that look like a .2 ctr
I suggest looking for a higher ctr image and then working on your text because:
Image=CTR
Text=CR
And make sure to NOT use the word "free" in your adcopy because it tends to bring the traffic quality down.
Good Luck!
Thanks. Gonna spend some time in the morning digging up some new images to test. Also, does anyone know if this technique is still allowed?
http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...es-on-Facebook
I would like to try it, I'm just not sure if things on FB have changed since then.
Just a quick update.
I found some images that are currently getting around .12-.15. They don't have a ton of impressions yet though. I increased the budget a bit so hopefully tomorrow I will have some more data and can get a more accurate figure. Will update then.
The CTR dropped down a bit. Still have two over .1% and the EPC's are profitable right now so I'm going to let them keep running. I've been split testing two different titles and the difference in CR is pretty amazing so far. They've each got about 90 clicks and one is converting at about 6.5% the other one about 15%. It's not a ton of clicks but I'm thinking it's good enough to scrap the poorly converting one and start split testing another one or two titles?
I'm also looking for some advice on the best way to run my ads. I've been creating separate campaigns with each image/title and duplicating the ad 3 or 4 times. Lets say I have 4 different campaigns that have the same targeting and same bids, but with different images/title. Is it best to test each campaign out individually or is it ok to do them all at the same time?
After I test lets say I have two ads that are performing well. Should I lower the bid to .01 on one ad and let the other run without "competing" against the other ad? And then just rotate the ads every day or something? Basically I'm wondering if having the same targeting with two different campaigns will end up raising my CPC and I'm not sure of the best way to keep ads fresh/have the lowest possible CPC.
Thanks

Today I launched some more campaigns to try to keep scaling the things that are working. I also grabbed some more images to test. The rest of the night I'm going to create some new campaigns to test some of the images. I'm also going to do a split test on some other campaigns to see if some variations in the title/body of the ad work better.
I'm pretty damn excited to see what tomorrow brings. Will update again tomorrow.
great job man
I got some campaigns launched to test out some new images and also some to split test the title and copy. Didn't get many impressions today on those campaigns but should have more data by tomorrow.
1st campaign: I tried to scale it up and it tanked a bit. The CTR was about the same, but the conversion rate dropped about half from yesterday to today. It had 327 clicks today, so a pretty good sample. It ended up losing about 20% overall. I lowered my bids to roughly break even. Gonna see how it does tomorrow. Not sure how much traffic I will get with those bids though.
2nd campaign was about 20% ROI. It had 102 clicks. So I left the bids the same and I'm gonna reevaluate tomorrow.
3rd campaign was about 200% ROI. It doesn't have a huge reach though. I can probably up my age group a bit and get some more volume on it. It only spent $26 today. If it can remain stable for a while though it should help me reach the $250/day mark.
4th campaign was right about 50% ROI over 300 clicks. I added some age groups to this one today so we will see how it performs tomorrow.
If my images/copy tests end up turning out well I will make some ads using similar techniques in the morning.
Overall on the day:
Spent: $350
Revenue: $468.91
Profit: $118.91
Tomorrow I need to man up and work on some landing pages. It's definitely my least favorite thing to do. I wanted to do it today but I kept finding excuses to do something else. Tomorrow its gotta get done though.
I don't want you to think I push my product on your thread (i don't need that, sales say that's pretty known on this forum), but you should really give a try(at least) to the 2 tweaks I'll put here.
I'm preparing a case study and I got some great results(about 40% increase) with the first 2 tweaks I updated on Top 50 this morning:
- Saturation with Thin red border
- Saturation and Contrast
I tried different images and these ones are some of the most stable tweaks I tested. Also, rainbow and red border seems to work on most images.
Great follow browndog! I just signed up to the forum yesterday and reading through some threads. Sp far I have read many success stories from using fb/POF traffic in the dating niche.
I am still debating on what traffic source I should focus on, I don't want to follow the herd but it looks like dating might be a nice niche to start with. I have tried in the past some dating with fb, targeting the country I currently live in which is Holland but only manage to break even. Spent around 250$ and gave up. The demographic on average also only targets around 500k people. But I do get 4-6€ per lead. I think I should aim for english speaking countries
Will keep an eye out on your follow
100$ a day is a nice goal for me!
By the way how long did it take you to get to where you are at now? And did you follow a specific case study or so?
Regards,
Philip
@crysper: Thanks. I appreciate the tips. I will try the things you mentioned and report how it goes
@philwilgrm: From my limited experience I prefer FB over pof. I like the targeting options on FB and it's nice to be able to use it to brainstorm different ideas and know the reach you'll be able to get. I also found it easier to bid by using CPC instead of CPM. It was just a lot simpler to get a decent idea of my profit margin.
I think internationally dating would be a good place to start. It's definitely where I've had the most success.
It's been about two months since I joined. I didn't follow anything specific, I just read a ton and then started trying stuff.
I was able to finish one landing page today. It's currently being split tested against DL so if it shows promise tomorrow I will try to tweak it a bit. If it sucks I will try something different.
My ROI dropped again today. I did spend some $ testing some stuff though. But I'm pretty sure even if I exclude that it will still have dropped. I haven't looked at the figures though. In my split tests it doesn't look like I have found anything that's out performing what I currently have going. I've got a few ideas for some different angles I wanna try tomorrow. I'm also gonna apply some of the tips crysper mentioned and see if that will help.
Overall on the day:
Spent: $350
Revenue: $442.65
Profit: $92.65
@butthole thanks for the link wil definetly check it out!
Thanks browndog I think I will start with FB too, no point switching traffic sources until have mastered one! Been reading a bunch of threads so far, going to the STM meetup in Amsterdam on sunday, after that I will start with the 40day STM trainging guide. Did you btw follow that guide? Just asking cause you have really inspired me that its possible
Btw with the landing page, do you collect their emails or just redirect them to the offer?
You're doing well man.
I'd suggest focusing on the image though, the adcopy doesn't
make that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.
Me, I keep my ads under one campaign, it's easier when you start
having multiple campaigns to manage.
Of course make sure you're tracking your converting age ranges
and images properly via subids.
I will do a proper update later tonight. I just wanted to see if I could get some opinions on what I should do regarding pay bumps/male-female ratio. Right now I'm only running female traffic. I've done anywhere from 20-70 conversions for various offers. Is this enough to ask for a bump? Also, is it generally better to keep only female traffic and try to get a higher bump? Or should I start mixing in male traffic and working towards a 50/50 or 60/40 ratio and then see if I can get a bump when I start doing some more volume?
thanks
Wow browndog, props for getting that profitable so quickly! Quite motivating stuff, I want to see a $500 profit day soon.
Me too.
FB is being a bitch today. Got some ads that were doing well cancelled. I'm assuming it's from too many people clicking don't show me this again or whatever it says because I have identical ads in the same campaign still running. My approval time is also taking a lot longer than it has been.
So I didn't get much stuff tested. Hopefully they hurry up and approve some of this stuff because I want to see how it turns out.
Overall on the day:
Revenue: $519.39
Spent: $348.10
Profit: $171.29
So I received word today that one of my offers wants to reduce the payout by 30%. I don't get it. I've only been sending female traffic. The offer is 30+ and I've been sending a good mix of 30-45 with some 45-50, it's not like I'm sending all 30 year olds. I'm not using the word free or trial or anything like that. Any ideas how I can improve the quality or how I should handle this?
thanks
I'm a noob too but could you run the same offer at another network for a better price?
Ya that's an option. But to be honest, I'm not really interested in jumping from network to network for a quick payday. I really want to have something that lasts and to be able to develop a good relationship with the network/advertiser. If the traffic I'm sending is shit I want to know why and how I can fix it. I'm with a reputable network so I think things are good on that side, but who knows. I'm going to contact my AM and see what they have to say.
Anyway, aside from all that stuff it ended up being a decent day. We'll see how tomorrow ends up. I paused all of the traffic to that offer until I can get it sorted out. I'm working on expanding some other campaigns now. I've got a wedding tomorrow that I'm in so I'm not sure how much work I'll get done. Gonna try and squeeze a few hours in, but we'll see.
Overall on the day:
Revenue: $562.86
Spent: $343.16
Profit: $219.70
Just a quick update:
Things are still going about the same. I wasn't able to get much work done this weekend because of all the wedding stuff. I'll be back at it again in the morning though. I'm still waiting to hear back from my AM about the traffic quality, hopefully tomorrow.
Launched some new campaigns today, so we'll see how they look tomorrow. In the mean time, I still haven't heard back from my AM about the traffic quality. Its been over 72 hours since I emailed her asking what the advertiser didn't like about the traffic and if she had any suggestions on how I could fix it. Pretty ridiculous IMO.
Overall on the day:
Revenue: $368.69
Spent: $230.16
Profit: $138.53
Cool. Thank You
Haven't updated in a few days. Things are still about the same, haven't got anything to stick yet. I launched a campaign today with a new angle that is doing alright so far. I'm getting a good CTR on the images, just not getting the conversions. I made 3 landing pages that I'm going to test out, so hopefully that'll help. I've also been doing a little bit of PPV stuff on lead impact on the side. It's been a slight loser so far. But I've been split testing different landers and offers. If the numbers remain consistent I will be able to get it profitable once I start optimizing it. Still need to collect some more data though.
Keep the faith buddy.....you have been amazing
keep up the good work
Damn it's been a while since I updated. I haven't given up, I'm still grinding away. Right now the PPV stuff is going better than FB. I have a campaign that I've been optimizing the landing page and targeting over the last 3 or 4 days. Right now it's at about 20-30 profit a day. I think there is still a lot of room to scale it on lead impact. I've got some new targets that I will test out on monday after they get approved. I have a landing page/offer combo that I'm confident in which should help me test different targets without second guessing if my lander/offer is the problem.
For FB I've been trying the BBPeopleMeet offer. It's a loser right now. Not sure on the exact %, but once again my CTR is killing me. I get some adds that look good for a day or so and by the end of the second day I just can't get cheap enough clicks. Additionally, my data from the landing pages I've been testing is all over the place. I've set up several different campaigns targeting different likes and on one campaign one landing page will be the clear winner and on another it will suck. One camp will be 55% CTR with 12% conversion and the other will be 28% CTR with 6 or 7% conversion. I assumed the demographics for my keyword targeting were fairly similar, but I guess data doesn't lie. So with that camp basically I'm just testing images and headline to try and find something that works.
I am also still testing the areyouinterested offer. It's kind of taken a back seat a bit, but I just submitted some new ads today so we'll see if anything takes off. One of my landing pages is looking somewhat promising. It still doesn't have much data though so we'll see what happens. Hopefully some of the new ads work out and I can get some more data on it.
That's all for today. I'll try to update more often from now on.
Any update? Hows the areyouinterested offer going?
You started so well, couldnt you just replace the be2 offers with something else and get your success back?
My PPV campaign is still doing alright. Still around $20-30 a day. A lot of the keywords I added didn't end up working out too well. There are a few that look like they should yield a positive ROI though. I added a couple different landing pages today to test out and I spent some time adding a lot more keywords so hopefully I should get some more profitable targets.
