After a few months of doing this, there is no question you need that additional margin to take things to a higher level, which networks have been really good at delivering increased commissions to you guys? (top 3, 5?) especially with offers suitable for Facebook.
And what kind of volume do they require ?
Any help on this will be appreciated
Personally I've never had more than +10/15% (at neverblue). The nice thing was that the bump didn't affect the CR
Hitting X,XXX profit / day @ street payouts so I have to disagree, I don't think payout bumps are critical at all, they add a little padding but definitely not necessary for making decent money. Scaling the campaign to new traffic source or building out a different campaign on a different offer tends to pay off way larger than asking for a pay bump which may or may not just get scrubbed out of the base payout - just my 2 cents on the topic.
It's not completely about the payout. I've seen a bunch a times where the highest payouts break even with lower payouts. Depends on the network's tracking platform, if they shave, is the offer brokered or direct, etc.
Networks take a max usually of a 30% margin (sometimes 10-20%), so you won't see a bump higher then 20% usually. IF YOU DO see a bump of 25%+ that network probably isn't a network you want to run with because that means they were initially taking that much of your commission which isn't nice.
One of my #1 rules of running an offer is immediately requesting a payout bump, then requesting another one if I can hit volume.
Josh you make great points, I was more responding to the idea that you need pay bumps to make decent money or "take things to a higher level" as the original poster mentioned. I agree with all of the points you made though, I just was offering my opinion that I think the mindset of needing a pay bump to take it to the next level might hurt people starting out who think it's not possible to make decent money at street. Given the maximum % a paybump can add being realistically around 10-15% (most offers even slimmer unless your network is robbing you or it's a high payout cps / trial), I was mainly pointing out that I don't think it's a good mindset to think that a paybump is the only or even the best way to take things to "next level".
So, definitely not critical or necessary to take it to the next level, but a nice added bonus
Also, your comment "If you have a network that's shaving you (I think you meant to say that), then you shouldn't be working with them anyway." -- What I am talking about here is sometimes you will get a custom pay bump from the advertiser for quality / volume, (instead of the network cutting into their margin % to give you the bump), and sometimes the advertiser will add in a scrub amount proportionate to the amount they bumped.
If you feel you deserve a payout bump, ask for it. If you're sending volume, and can send volume, try to go direct with the advertiser. That's an immediate payout bump + a relationship that may get you into invite / beta offers in the future.
This is the mentality that brings most to the top of their game. It separates good affiliates from great affiliates. Cut out the middle men, monetize wherever possible. Create a list & save your leads, sell them, email them, do something with them. Network!
This kind of "moving and shaking" is what turns a 0% ROI campaign into a profitable one and may very well leave you alone (for a while) in space. A lot of affiliates think they're stuck with optimizing only 2 things, their ads and their landing pages. Nothing wrong with that, but there are definitely more things you can do to improve your bottom line. Just think about it
Well for example A4D's street payouts are usually very low, lower than most networks by FAR, but if you run traffic with them they will easily bump you higher than the competition so its not always how it looks like
well focus on your quality, and make sure you have volume. Then go ahead and do bargains like in the market, tell AM from network 1 that another network is giving you xx payout, see if they can match it, then go to network 3 and say another network is giving you yy payout, see if they can match it. Mention about your volume. You should get pretty insane bumps. But really make sure you can deliver though as your reputation is on stake.
