Sitescout Dating Follow Along

Hey guys I'm breaking into media buying. I've been a long time aff and made my money thru various methods but never made any serious $$ thru buying media. I'm learning more and more everyday so I finally wanted to start a thread.

I'm not gunna be giving up a ton of details but i'll go over a few things i'm trying.

Strategy
I already burned thru ~$600 on SS and it's led me to test dating. My strategy is to target 1 site first, then scale.

For this campaign i'm targeting males. I did a lot of research on SS to find a high volume site that would fit my demo. After checking SS and Ad Planner I picked one to my liking.

I'm targeting ATF ads, mostly 300x250s. I'm using good creatives I found on WRW and i'm using a pretty UGLY LP. I have no idea how any of this will do but it is a test.

Note: I am not going to lie. I ripped the Lander & the Banners BUT i'm doing it for testing purposes only. I think one of the keys to success in this industry is to work smarter not harder. It makes 0 sense to create a custom lander/ads for a test when i already know what the top performers are. If the campaign shows promise, then i'll have a custom lander built & create some new ads.

Just remember that, move fast, test fast, and fail fast. The more placements/ideas you can try out the sooner you are likely to find one that sticks.

I'll keep everyone posted on performance tomorrow.

Right now I have a $100/day budget. My goals for tomorrow are a High CTR, and at least a few conversions. If i can get that, then i know the site shows promise.

Lets see what happens bros.

Update #1

Unfortunately my first targeted site sucked. The placements were poor IMO so my ads were not getting high enough CTRs. I did try another site and was actually shocked at the CTR of one of my ads 1.57%! I did get a ton of clicks, but my conversions sucked, i had only 1 sign up out of like 300 clicks :/. I was split testing 2 landers and direct, the direct sign up won.

Also since i found this placement i tested out an IMVU offer as well just to see what would happen. The CTR was still good, not 1% tho, but that didn't convert there either. It's very puzzling...

What I learned

Every strategy I test, I quickly learn valuable things. With this test I learned that not all placements on Sitescout are the same. Finding a good placement is similar to digging for gold IMO. Right now I found a great placement, but the offer is not converting. So I will be testing different offers on that placement this week.

Other Thoughts

I think the reason my best ad got a 1.5% CTR is because it blended into the sight very well. Even tho it got a lot of clicks, they might have all been out of curiosity, and the intent of signing up to a dating site was not there. Thats my best guess. I also think that using an LP is a waste of time on the site i'm targeting - its in the social media category. I am only getting a 20% CTR on both LPs and they are not converting, so thats a TON of clicks i'm using. I'm gunna keep the same Dating ad and split test a few different dating offers, then I'm going to start testing different verticals. Not sure what yet tho...
