I know I know I know. There are a lot of threads on POF and related stuff. I'll be honest, I haven't read them all, but it is getting more and more frustrating as the days go by. A few months ago I was very profitable on POF and I was doing pretty damn well. So I decided to expand without the beloved True offers. I am currently running Richmen and am running into so many random fluctuations in traffic. I have tons of campaigns and tons of ads and I have split tested every day for about 4 weeks. Diving into targeting everything as well as utilizing banners (all sizes) and regular ads.
What the hell is the deal with the fluctuations? Why is it so hard to stay profitable on it for long? Any advice would be appreciated. I got great CTRs on my banners (most above .2 and usually around .38) Tried LP and DL. DL turned out higher EPCs for me. Anybody got any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
Having the very same issues... Would like to hear feedback on this.
is this on x,xxx / day volume? at low volume I notice massive fluctuations, but when I was able to scale to higher volume, things evened out. I think it's just statistically when you have a small sample size, the data can spike hard in a good way but also in a bad way, I used to struggle with this and kept blaming POF so I feel you. For me personally, LP is king but I did make my first xx,xxx on pof with DL. I'll never go back though, having such better results with LPs and it allows you to convert higher than the competition and thus outbid them.
It's not on x,xxx/day volume quite yet. But getting there is the issue. I mean I have over 100 campaigns already. What is a good # or amount of campaigns to shoot for?
I've had 10+ pages before, I've heard of people having more. It depends whether you're niche or broad, there are definitely enough niche targeting combinations to be over 20+ pages, but that may not be the most efficient use of your time. You can go broader and hit lower ROI % or you can use the ad uploader to make a ton of high roi % niche campaigns, I've done both and usually combine both methods to achieve max volume. As of right now I'm running 2 accounts and about 4 pages of ads, it depends if you're in low login counts or using all of pof's volume as well.
after a full day or two of running, if a campaign is hitting 30% ROI, I know it has potential (this is on broad, not niche). From there, as long as the basics are there (good ctr, converting LP, good quality / good offer), the campaigns typically stay profitable indefinitely until it gets copy pasted / ripped to death or the quality dips for the advertiser. I'm a big believer that if a campaign is good, it isn't going to "die". Sometimes they need to be paused and rested, but I always pause, never delete, and then run then a few weeks or even a month later. Regarding fluctuations day to day, yes I experience huge fluctuations sometimes. It's just knowing how to diagnose, and not optimize when this happens. Sometimes it's a fluke in tracking, whether it be your server, the network, or the advertiser's. Sometimes, it's a big event like the olympics, or christmas. Sometimes, I have no clue why. I look for long term patterns, formulas like winning banner + LP + good offer combinations, and then I build out every niche possible using the same formula. Some campaigns I have I just leave on 24/7, but a lot of the higher volume ones really need to be day parted so it's important to track your epc's at different times of the day. The most important thing I have learned is to not over diagnose / overoptimize, but really step back and think about what is happening. Is it the offer? If so, I diagnose by split testing multiple offers. If my CTR is way down for several days in a row, it's either some copy paste aff ripped my stuff or some major event happening worldwide possibly (a bit extreme but I think some events can cause lower traffic). Most important thing to do I've found is make sure advertiser is happy with the quality so I know they're not scrubbing my leads. From there, I just keep checking every part of the campaign till I find the culprit, and if I can't figure it out, I just pause for a few days or week and usually when I resume things are back to normal
The other thing that may be happening is that it is the dead of summer as far lots of people on vacations and stuff.
I look forward to the beginning of fall/school year.
August can be a bit of a down month for lots of businesses, not sure if it applies to dating.
yes, to follow up on htgred's point, summer definitely is not the prime time for dating, so if you're starting out and you've managed to get profitable and maintain quality in the summer, congrats to you because this is (in my opinion) the hardest season for both good quality on the advertiser's back end, and just hitting the volume / ROI needed to be profitable. I personally cannot wait for winter because based on my stats last year, my volume increased ~25% with literally no changes to the bids / targeting once winter hit, so if you're struggling in the summer months, hang in there because in a few months you're break even campaigns will most likely be profitable
Haha, welcome to the beast that is Richmen,
Richmen and Christian offers are the most volatile mofo's i've ever dealt with on POF.
Are your ads burning out within a few days?
What log in counts are we talking about here?
I've had best success with these offers bidding pretty low 20-30 cpm, and resubmitting the ads every 2-3 days. Seemed to work quite well
Do you just click edit and update on the ads to resubmit them? I don't want to resubmit some ads because they got a lot stricter on the images. Some images that got approved before now get disapproved and they were some of the good ones.
On a sidenote :
They dont work weekends ? I guess so.
