What data would you like to know about mobile ad networks?

Hi my name's James and I run a directory of mobile ad networks. I won't link to it here as it's my first post on the forum. Anyway I wanted to ask the affiliates/ media buyers here what useful information we could provide about the different mobile networks out there that would be useful?

We are currently upgrading the directory to include additional information such as:

- countries - e.g. so you can find that mobile ad network with Argentinian traffic or whatever

- ad format - messaging, content locks, banners, video etc

- biz model - CPI, CPC etc

- type e.g. to sort the mobile demand side platforms, from the ad networks from the mobile ad servers.

The question is what sort of data/ information would you like to know about the different mobile ad networks when planning campaigns?

I guess stuff like average CPC by country/ targeting or conversion / inventory volume stats would be good but not sure how we would go about gathering it.

If you can provide "targeting option" then it will be really sweet and definitely a lifesaver. For example, is the particular ad network able to target/track:

1. Carrier
2. Handset
3. OS Platform ( iOS, Android, Symbian, Blackberry, etc )
4. OS Version ( Android 2.1, Android 2.2, etc )
5. Site/Publisher ID
6. ** Do they let us use any dynamic variables to pass back the above information to our own tracker, etc.

If you can get information like this is definitely awesome, and also the traffic volume we can get for each country, this interests most of the people too I will say.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward into this.

Thanks wyff - I can see how the site/ publisher ID thing is useful as not all allow that but was thinking the targeting stuff e.g. handset/ carrier/ platform is all just hygiene as they all offer it no?

The tracking thing also makes sense - not sure how to display that though - would be whether they allow tracking altogether or specifically which variables they allow?

Traffic volume by country definitely makes sense, again will have to think about how to display this.

Nope, some networks like Buzzcity don't let you target OS version for example, whereas network like Tapit! almost allows you to target everything to the T. So it is definitely a time saver if you could provide in-depth information regarding this. So we don't have to create/fund all of the mobile ad networks out there in order to find out what targeting options they have.

Thanks.

Ok guys we have a first version of the ad network directory here

This lets you sort by specific national markets or ad formats. Great to hear any feedback about what else might be useful. Maybe info on average CPCs or something?

Hey james,

So you're the owner of mobyaffiliates.com? I've already been learning a ton from the information you guys posted on your blog. That's awesome!

Average CPC and traffic estimate on each region would be awesome if you could put that up.

Thanks for this kinda great info!

You know what would be REALLY useful? If you created a database/catalogue of all the little things you can do in self-serve. You mentioned some things already, but:

1. Include ad sizes as well
2. You may want to catalog the different mediators, and supply side/demand side platforms as well, in addition to exchanges and ad networks
3. What carriers can you target at each network
3a. same for device, handset, OS, OS version, geography...literally a catalogue of everything you can target at what network
4. List of tokens that can be passed through in click-through URL's at each network
5. For biz model: what kind of stuff can you promote - click to call, app download, external URL, etc.

That would be phenomenal! But great start already.

TRAFFIC STATS per country, per device, per phone type, per carrier, etc would be most useful

Hi guys apologies for the radio silence and really appreciate the feedback - @river thanks!

@wyffgoal @wilebert traffic stats by country should be possible - will look into that. The eCPM, fill rate stuff would have to come from crowdsourcing i think ... unless the networks or exchanges would cough up the info ...

@ffclogin - we have split out mobile ad servers and DSPs here http://www.mobyaffiliates.com/mobile...pes=mobile-dsp and http://www.mobyaffiliates.com/mobile...bile-ad-server

The sorting functionality was bust last two weeks but it's working again now so you can filter networks by type, CPC, CPM, CPA, by country etc http://mobyaffiliates.com/mobile-advertising-networks
