Having Trouble Driving Traffic on AdCenter
Hey guys,
I wanted to ask and see if anyone can point out a mistake I'm making that I don't see.
I'm running a toolbar download on AdCenter as my first paid traffic campaign. So far I've been taking it real slow, but not entirely on purpose.
Here are my stats:
- $168.32 Spend
- 135,290 Impressions
- 1,774 Clicks
- 1.31 CTR%
- 3.45 AVG. Position
- 0.09 AVG CPC
Resulting in $117.70 revenue. So, I'm down $50.62. These are stats since July 1st 2012. My $10/day budget is often not being spent each day.
What bothers me is I'm failing to find a way to increase the traffic now that I want it at full blast. I don't feel my ~100 clicks/day is enough to optimize my LP on, and even if it was, it's not enough traffic to reach as little as $50/day with my $2 payout.
Now - I was told that you always want to bid high initially to get a higher ad position and optimize Ad CTR before slowly bidding back down to your target bid - for the sake of quality score.
How long should I let this process go on? I'm already getting Ad CTRs between 1.9 up to 3.0 on good days, but my average position averages out to 2.90 the last 7 days. I've just raised my bid from 0.10 to 0.22 to try and get that closer to 1.
How long should I overbid, and assume negative ROI, for the purpose of bumping up my average position?
Am I missing a method I should be utilizing to increase my traffic?

Not pushing TV Fanatic, but it is a toolbar unrelated to the Olympics.

I don't think you need to bid higher on this one, you're already in the top spots and your ctr is good !
What's your average QS on your keywords?
Are you sure there's more traffic to get from this campaign ? cause at position 2 you should see a large chunk of what's possible.
Also :
- you can try to set a high daily budget, I typically set 1000$ if i want 100$, etc ..
- selected "accelerated" in advanced budget options
- select only search network (most clicks from content network on adcenter are fraud)
- select only desktop and laptops
Best of luck!

Hi Mehdi,
My average QS is roughly 6.5-6.6. I've already adjusted the campaign settings to reflect your suggestions a few weeks ago, so at least that lets me feel I'm in the right direction.
I snooped around in my SEMrush trial and the top competitor is bidding on a TON of keywords. Maybe that's the answer to this one. I'm already bidding on 200+, I kind of felt I might be doing something wrong if I needed so many.
The mystery continues.

Use google keyword tool and check your keywords exact local search. Maybe you are bidding on keywords with low local search.
Also, use the tool to add more keywords. Max 4-5 keywords per adgroup and they must be very related to the ad.
Remove keywords with less than $1.00 CTR.

I understand basic keyword research, and these are fairly low volume terms, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making an error in my campaign settings or had a particular part of my stats I need to improve. Why 4-5 keyword per ad group? To drive up the adgroup rating?
I think I just found a new angle to work on, I'll post how it goes in a few days.

Something just "clicked" after reading this again - I believe what you're implying is that the top 3 spots share the same total impressions? Is this true?

probably not the exact impressions but pretty close yeah , i'f you're in the top 3 that means you are doing something right, and you'll have good volumes, just keep improving your ctr, and put a high daily budget, like 10000$ and see if you get more traffic after one or two days, i'm doing this for some of my campaigns and it's working great, it takes a couple days but it gets x3 or x4 volumes
