I have a lot of content and want to put together a blog to display it. Can any experienced bloggers out there recommend the best free platform. I was looking at wordpress and blogger. Thanks
Wordpress is tried and tested. Tons of plugins, just watch out for insecure ones that will get your WP install hacked.

Beyond hosting is fine. Depending on how much traffic you expect even those 4.99 shared hosting accounts are fine ( I used one for my personal blog with no problems).
If your content is kinda visual / creative I would opt for Tumblr.
Wordpress 100%, I love them.
