kokofai's Wild West Follow Along Contest - iFortune [#2 round of ATTACK]

*kokofai's Return*

Sorry for the delay in posting! Had some issues with server and finally I've decided to upgrade to dedicated server. I'm a happy man now

After a major failure on my first follow along, I've decided to go with a more popular offer.

This time, I've chosen iFortune as the offer because I know this offer works for sure! Every AMs across networks are recommending this one so it can't be wrong.

Offer: iFortune
Payout: $12
Network: Mobaff (the one at F5 seems to be down at the moment)
Carrier Allowed: The very competitive Roger - both iphone and Android

* I know I gonna compete with alot of people like hell because... this traffic is really limited.

Having little to none idea of how to push this offer, I pulled out our affiliate marketer's bible - ca$hvertising and gave it a read on the LF8. *Hint* - this is the way that I use to brain storm for new angles.

After my brain cells being squeezed to death...

I came out with this campaign structure.

Way 1: Direct linking - straight sell from ads
Way 2: December 2012 - End of the World? - with LP
Way 3: Want To Know How Different You Are From Anyone Else? - with LP

I came out these angles based on life forces 8. Might not be true but I'm doing my best to relate to LF8.

Angle #2:

Angle #3:

These LPs are built using Coffee Cup Visual Designer and the images are hosted on MaxCDN. There's this code that is VERY useful for mobile lander:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0"/>

Put this before </head> and it will help optimize your page for mobile devices. For more info please visit here. This is the exact code that I use on all my mobile landers.

Traffic:
Leadbolt Again as I still have $2k+ left over in the account unused. When proven to be working, I will scale to other networks. I'm going to leave the 1% hidden from the post - that is the bid price - as it's ultra competitive for Roger traffic. I have to hide it from being outbidded.

Ads:

Way #1:

Way #2:

Way #3

As usual, have my tracking set up using Prosper202, and this time I'm on a dedicated server so I hope it does help on the load time of landers.

I also signed up to few other Mobile Ad networks - like TapIt, Buzzcity and few. Will start advertising on them too once this is set up and some data are coming in.

That's it for my 2nd round of return. I have to admit that my English isn't that good, especially on copy writing part. I believe a good copy writer can improve my lander (the way it is written) by a lot, and can really be a factors of whether this is a + or - ROI campaign. Oh well, I'm at least trying my best

As usual, any comment/critique is welcome most.

Day 1 Result

Way #1 - Direct Linking
Income: $72
Expenses: $42.27
Net: $29.73
ROI: 70%

Way #2 - Lander - 2012 End of the world?
Income: $0
Expenses: $11.48
Net: -$11.48
ROI: -100%

Way #3 - Lander - You Are Different
Income: $12
Expenses: $33.60
Net: -$21.60
ROI: -65%

Overall Campaign Performance:
Income: $84
Expenses: $87.35
Net: -$3.35
ROI: -0.04%

I had to censored the data because I don't want to reveal the CPC that I'm bidding on - as this campaign has really very limited traffic.

As far as it goes, I am dropping Way #2 & 3, and let the first way to continue running. Direct linking seems to work best at the moment.

I am scaling this to other networks - once I've settle some minor issue on my new server. Direct linking seems to be the best for now.

========================================
Day 2 Updates
========================================
I let this campaign runs on direct linking. Below is the ad copy that I am using.
For those who want to steal campaign, go and copy all you want!

I will add in more ad variations based on the first ad. Apparently fortune telling is more popular among female and when you can hit those who really "lonely, need love?" demo, that would be gold!

Scaling this campaign over to Airpush~ Will report back once I've set up the campaign over there!

*Updated*

Set up campaign on AirPush and you can see my attached screenshot below. For this campaign, I will attack it using "love" as an angle, and I will try to target girls only with my ads.

=======================
Day 3 Updates
=======================

Campaign is not performing at all at Leadbolt. No idea why - Sent about 300+ clicks but only 1 conversion. Everything remains the same. I up my bid in order to get more traffic.

Meanwhile, I've had my campaign on Airpush running, sent about $50 worth of clicks with 0 conversion too. The CPC there for Roger is really expensive. I barely can get any traffic with bid that is lower than 0.16.

To SUM UP day 3:

Leadbolt:
Income: $12
Expenses: $56.18
Net: -$44.18

AirPush:
Income: $0
Expenses: $50
Net: -$50

At the same time, I just got some issue settled on Buzzcity and I made the following ads. They are suck I have to agree, but I believe ugly can sell, and I am trying to make things as simple as possible and convey the message.

From earlier test, seems that "love" is the angle that I should go after because:

So I created ads that aim at "get your daily fortune telling to solve your current love problem! You'll never know how powerful it is until you test it!".

Campaign is set up and I set a budget of $100/day to see if it will perform using banner ads or not. Wait for more updates!~

=========================
Day 4 & 5 Updates
=========================
Something is really wrong with the traffic on Leadbolt. There are at least conversions on the first few days but seem that the conversion is dying. Sent about 550 clicks with only 1 conversion. It doesn't look promising anymore on my end...

Leadbolt:
Income: $12
Expenses: $92.56
Net: -$80.56

Meanwhile, I paused my campaign at AirPush totally because I believe banners can do much better on this campaign.

As for Buzzcity, I haven't receive enough clicks to make a judgetment so I'll update that on tomorrow.

To sum things up up to date:

14 conversions in total, with a spending of... ouch...

iFortune CA up to date:
Income: $168
Expenses: $297.41
Net: -$130~

It's a real loss... not a good day for me. Paused campaign at Leadbolt and now only count on my banner ads.

=====================
Day 6
=====================

Got some good news here! Things look much better when I switch to banner ads! On those ads that I made earlier, I'm getting a decent ctr and the campaign is giving me at least positive ROI after so many days of struggle.

Some stats here:
Income: $180 (there are 15 conversions)
Expenses: $107~

Net: $73

It's really a great news for me because finally I'm seeing some light on this campaign! However, I have to slow down on this and come back again because I have bigger campaign going on that I'm doing $x,xxx/day net profit. I have to push all my available cash flow over there to milk it while it last!

Was wondering if I should post this up because this could turn out to be another big campaign but I've decided to post it up to complete my follow along. STM has got me started in paid advertising and I truly appreciate this community. It's time for me to give back to this great forum. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't because of STM. Previously, asking $99/month from me is like killing me. Now, I have no regret paying $99 monthly because it is one of the greatest decisions I've made in my life. All hail to Jordan, Besmir, and of course my Si-fu - Lorenzo! (Not forgetting the mods too!)

Anyway, for those of you who want to hit this campaign, go ahead mates! If you act fast enough, and you can expand from the data that I have here, you can scale it big!

Mobile is a fun space to be in and I still have a balance of $2k+ on my leadbolt account so I'll definitely do another follow along campaign on mobile when I have more time for it!

Btw, guess which ad of mine got the highest CTR? This is the one!

Seems that the angle "love issue" is really suitable for attacking this offer. I believe by creating a lander and presell it further more it will increase the conversion more.

To Sum Up this follow along:
Income: $348
Expenses: $404.41
Net: -$56.41

Although it's in a loss up to date, but the money spent is worth it because at least I'm seeing a chance to turn this campaign into a profitable one... and that concludes my follow along story. Hope it helps the forum member in anyway.

Way better than mine already! All the best bro! I'm excited to see how would this pan out at the end.

Anyway, did you find Leadbolt weird as there are two fields that are kinda vague, the ad subtitle and the ad description. How do you approach them? I currently just ignore the ad subtitle field and fill in my ad description.

Thanks.

Comeback it is!

@kokofai Let's do this! Good luck man I hope we both find some profit.

Good effort with the comeback.

Just a few things. Have you deliberately made the gramatical errors in your title and copy? If you haven't here are some suggestions.

1. Title on Lander 1 should read "Do you Believe, that on December 21st, The World Will End?"
2. Title on Lander 2 "Would you like to know how you are different from Everyone Else?"

Also there are quite a few mistakes in your sentence structure in the smaller copy. I'm not sure how this will affect conversions but you might want to get it proofread by someone before you launch.

Thanks guys for the gramatical error corrections! Appreciate them but I'm dropping landers out from this campaign because they don't seem to perform for me. And new update - I start to see what are the ingredients that needed to make this campaign a success and subsequently scale it to other networks. Excited and I just love follow along like this

Turtle Hammer let's make money together! Make it rain!

Yeah definitely man! But I have to pause it first and come back to it at a later time...

Awesome results, case study contains a lot of great stuff!

Something i learned on most campaigns is grammatical errors won't lower your conversions at all. Might even be worth a split test one day.
> 100% perfect grammar vs absolutely atrocious grammar

Seeing that the 'lost in love matters' ad worked the best, instantly opened up some mega angles for me! I had a feeling this offer works best with females, and this case study strengthened my feeling - tons of ways for people to expand on what you've done

Nice job on the follow along! Mobile is next on my list to tackle.

Hey Ben, thanks for the great follow along.

One question for you, on day 6 you started to see green, it's on Leadbolt or somewhere else?

Thanks once again.

I already paused on leadbolt. The results come from buzz city.

Hey Jordan thanks for the comment!

Yeah I don't really see grammatical error will affect the conversion in anyway because I strongly believe that people only care about - "What's in it for me?". Like the author of ca$hvertising mentioned, people only care got themselves, not the grammatical errors that i have on my landers. So I often put the biggest benefit right in front of my visitors and write them in the simplest English ever.

On the demo, after analyzing few of the top fortune telling sites on ad planner, quantcast, and Alexa, female is definitely the demo to go for on this offer and love seems to be the matter they care most.

And yeah, totally agree with you that there are alot of ways to expand this angle!

Hope someone can take action from here and report back and see if the results will be good or not!

I'm a mega believer of the Big headline benefit + KISS rules. Follow that style for the majority of my simpler landing pages.

Incase someone does want to take this further, here are some recommended steps.
1. Find a traffic source with a stronger female demographic, certain traffic sources may have a larger database of games/apps with female demos.
2. Split test a range of love probles girls have from age 16-50.
- Does he like me
- should i break up with him?
- is he cheating
- should i cheat?
*Lookup top relationship/single problems for women (you'll find a ton of stuff)

Even try angles like
- "He's still talking to his Ex!"

3. Track pub/site IDs!

Good job man! You hit profit before me Because of what I've learned from your efforts, I'm making some ads that should appeal to a female demo of all ages. I hope you end up taking this further!

Hi Kok Fai,
If you dont mind sharing, how do you get android and iphone traffic from buzzcity?
According to their planner, 95% of their Canada traffic comes from blackberry.
I got 2 campaigns running at buzz, but not getting any traffic at all.
However, do note i am only bidding the recommended bid, which is 3 cents.
SHould i up my bid through the roof??

Thanks man.
