I decided to jump in on this contest, maybe a little too late,
but it will give me motivation for work.
I pick media buying, cos my first attempt was disaster and
really want to make this work.
Did I mention that I'm very lazy?
Im in this game for very long time (9+ years) and
getting motivated to work is really hard.
So, b'cos of my laziness and b'cos i have no idea how media buying
work, I decided to go the easy way (whatrunswhere) and rip everything.
If anybody recognize their landing page or banners, pls contact me and I'll
quit this follow-along or make all changes necessary.
Let's start:
-My goal is $x.xxx/day (used to make this, but now I'm stuck on low/mid $xxx)
-Traffic source is SiteScout and Pulse360. I'll use CPMatic too, but not sure if they
are going to run my campaign.
Offer is going to be Your Auto Insurance Finders from EWA and
also will add Smart Credit as second offer.
-Country - US/ 1.10 bid on SiteScout (others are not setup yet)
My budget is leftovers that i have on the networks
(totally forgotten)
SiteScout $250, CPMatic $1000, Pulse360 $250 (probably will have to add more)
-Tracking with CPVLab, SiteScout pixels and Pulse360 html conversion code.

Banners (they were text ads from WRW, so i used Banner Designer Pro to make the 300x250 banners)

That's it for now, will update soon.
Update 7-17
More banners added:

They are also swf files, flashing and blinking, but i have no idea how to upload them.
Update 7-18
I had audience enabled in SS and that was the reason why traffic was not coming.
Audience removed and these are the stats for yesterday and today:

The campaign was set on $35/day fast spending.
As you can see there is not much data collected to start optimizing, so
i set the campaign on $100/day with budget spend evenly throughout the day. We'll see if this brings more data.
Update 7-19

Clicks are coming, but no conversions yet.
I'll split test direct linking to insurance offer today and see how it goes.
My follow along sucks, nothing to show yet. No traffic coming in, so i'm making some changes:
-whitelist for SS traffic, thanks to Mehdi's short tutorial
-working on more banners.
Stand by.
Hey godspeed !
I was just about to suggest my video but i see you already taught of that , hehe.
If you have a whatrunswhere membership it will save you a lot of time, and also bring in volume quickly so you can gather some data and start tweaking
best of luck with your campaign mate !
Mehdi

It depends, I started out with the default 25$/day/campaign (I have 5) and you quickly see what sites will bring you the more traffic.
I just increased it to 40$/day/campaign yesterday to gather data quicker, will see how that goes
Mehdi
How much over the budget can it go if it's setup for $25/day?
They have warning when creating "of network" campaigns.
It never went off budget for me for now mate.
yes but it's partial-RON you're making though, you're limiting volumes by selecting specific websites
Mehdi
Thread updated: $61 spend/$0 ROI

Update:
Still no conversions.
Starting CPMatic campaign with $1k now and also waiting for Pulse360
to approve my account and to start with text ads.
On SiteScout I'm -$200 and have $50 left. Added new banners.
Update: total disaster
So far, big fat $0
Still testing traffic with CPMatic. Pulse360 will start in a day or two.
Im still learning media buys, so i will probably continue this follow along even when
the contest is over.
I have to make this profitable, no matter what (that is until i have $$$$ left)
I'd suggest sticking to one traffic source, one offer. Honing stuff that way just forces hard decisions and innovation. Auto INS can work on any of those traffic sources. Jumping around just lessens the amount of hard decisions you have to make, and doesn't force breaking out of the box.
Quick update:
Bad: -$1500+ / $0 profit
Good: Haven't quit yet
Working with Pulse360 and Advertising.com
-$1500... You should change offer/vertical...
