The Wild Wild West of Affiliate Marketing: Mobile!




Hello fellow stackers!

This contest has timed up perfectly with my venture into the mobile dating world. I have been doing affiliate marketing now for a few years, but just recently got into mobile offers and I love it so far. It really is like the Wild West right now, so many unknowns yet so much opportunity!

I have yet to dabble in mobile dating, which I’ve heard is a tough cookie to crack.

But I fear not! I like a good challenge, just like Mufasa.



GOALS
My goal here is mainly to learn what kind of psychological marketing tactics used in the ads and landers work with mobile dating, then share my findings with all the awesome STM members who have helped teach and motivate me along this journey. (Making a profit would be a nice plus too!)

To do that, I’ll be testing various landers, ads, ad sizes, angles, direct traffic, etc. I have a feeling that demographics will play a big role in determining the success of this campaign.

Traffic Sources: Jumptap & Airpush
As much as I hate optimizing on Jumptap, I’m using them because I know that have a good amount of US volume, and can get low CPC’s as long as I keep my eCPM up. I will be segmenting iPhone and Android campaigns for cleaner data.

Conversion: Takes place once the user puts in their phone number, thus signing up for the free trial

Airpush has an interesting new ad format called Icon Ads which I’m excited to try out, and this will be the perfect opportunity. As much as I think this would work with app installs, I think it has potential for sending traffic to a dating landing page as well. I also like the unique ad size, which is just a 72x72 icon that gets installed on Android devices. You only pay one time for the install. This has tons of potential to continually monetize the traffic, consider me intrigued.



TRACKING
This will also be my first foray into third party mobile tracking, so if any of you have better suggestions I am all ears. For now, I’m going to test just going direct without a LP (and using NB’s data) vs. going through P202 with LP’s.

BUDGET
Because of my plethora of testing variables, I’m willing to throw $1.5k down on it to get some solid data as long as it just doesn’t crap right from the start. I know its not on par with the budget of the Wild Wild West movie (can you believe they spent $170 million on that?), but it should suffice for now.

I know I should be a little more broader with these ad tests, but wanted to just try a few images with different copy and see how well they do off the bat.

Although, I might be testing out new ads sooner than I thought because these might be borderline scandalous, but we'll wee.

I ran that offer for a long time so I can give you some insights...not to say that what you are doing won't work.

Livelinks is a chat line - its not a dating site. Looking at your landing page I think it might be a bit off target ito the offer itself.

If you think of the kind of guys who would use a chat line then you can get a much better idea for what to target and building your campaign around the chat line.

You might struggle to get your creatives/lander on airpush. They tightened up on dating a lot recently.

Ouch, yeah they're still pending approval on there, but by what you're saying they'll probably wont get approved. Thanks for the tips guys, looks like I might have to pivot on this one. Not giving up yet!

Thanks for the feedback. I do realize its a chat line, but wanted to try the "meet local women" angle with the lander since that's what the advertiser's LP was seeming to focus on, the aspect of actually meeting locals, not just chatting to them on the phone.

Based on your input though, I'm creating new LP's now to test and see what kind of results I can get by just sticking to the chat line feature.

From my understanding this offer IS a service that connects you with other singles in the area (ie: a type of dating, hookup etc service).

The idea is they chat over the phone immediately with someone rather than online/app text dating.

I'd try multiple angles that are a spin of why hot women would be on these things..
ie: a mini news article explaining the new boom of sexy girls using these chat lines to meet guys on the weekends
