Doppelganger’s Wild West Follow Along Contest – Credit Reports/PPV (56)

Doppelganger’s Wild West Follow Along Contest – Credit Reports/PPV

Ok, so as I mentioned in my thread here, I have been focusing on PPV as a new traffic source. I began messing around with PPV about a month ago to get the feel for it and decided it would be the next traffic source I would tackle. This is a bit of a step outside my comfort zone, which is dating on FB, but perhaps that’s a good thing. I have chosen LeadImpact as my network for PPV traffic and will be focusing on credit report offers for this follow along. I have not yet had a profitable campaign with PPV but the goal is to change that here. I hope to turn this into a stable campaign that will push me closer to my goal of $1k/day. I have not set a hard budget for this campaign and will adjust based on what is comfortable for me. Some people may argue that I don’t have the budget to ‘properly’ test an offer with a $25 payout but, I’m going for it

Let’s get into the details…

Goal: to break even or be profitable by the end of this contest
Tracking: Prosper202
Hosting: Beyond Hosting
Traffic Source: LeadImpact
Country: US
Budget: $XXX (TBD)
Offer: Trial - Free Score Finder
Payout: $25.00

I have scraped around 800 urls and keywords for this campaign. I used the Adwords keyword tool to generate keywords then used Affexpert’s URL scraper to scrape urls from Google. I am bidding on a combination of keywords and urls to see what performs the best. Bids start out at $0.025 but there are a few that I am bidding higher on to make sure I get some traffic on them.

My first landing page is pretty basic. I went for a clean and professional look and some images that should imply trust. I will use this to set a base line and try to improve CTR and CVR from there. The lander has an alert when it loads that says “Your Credit Score may have been updated recently!”. I know these are not really allowed but they will often increase CTR.

I have started working on another lander and will hopefully have that up tonight or tomorrow. It's been a while since I did a follow along and am really looking forward to this. I hope to have an update for everyone soon!

Day11:

Final Summary
Despite some of the money issues I've had during this follow along, I think the campaign definitely shows some potential and I will continue to work with it. In case you haven't been following my posts, I ran into some problems getting paid by my main network and couldn't really spend what I wanted to on this. I did achieve my original goal of being break even or profitable but I really had bigger plans for this follow along and am kind of disappointed that I couldn't do more.

The Final Numbers:
Spent: $307.35
Made: $384.50
Profit: $77.15

The Offer:
I have tested a variety of offers during this follow along, Free Score Finder, Profinity Credit, Think Credit Reports, and FreeScore 360. Free Score finder did well but the offer was paused early in the follow along. I have really tried to get FreeScore 360 to work for me but for some reason, I just couldn't get it to convert. The best performing offer for me was Think Credit reports. It started out with a $30.00 payout but was later lowered to $25.90. I was able to keep this offer profitable even after the payout was lowered and look forward to trying to scale it up and see if it will stay profitable.

The Landing Page:
I probably tested about 4-5 different landers during the follow along and saw some respectable CTRs. The winning lander used an intro pop which read "Your Credit Score Has Been Updated!". I also tested out an exit pop but didn't end up keeping it. Here is the final lander I ended up with which had an average CTR of 22.7%

I wish I could have hit this a little harder and thrown some more money at this campaign. Despite that, I hope some people got something out of this and enjoyed following along. I will continue to work with this campaign and see if I can get it to become a $XXX/day campaign. I'll still check back in with some updates even though the contest is over and we'll see if we can optimize and scale this.

Thanks to everyone who dropped by to offer advice and encouragement! I appreciate it!

I have updated post#2 with yesterday's stats. I certainly didn't expect to see conversions already

It's way too soon to know if things will continue this way or if it was just a lucky day. Hopefully this trend will continue

I have another lander to upload that uses the identity theft angle. I will run both today and see what happens.

Well done man! I wouldn't have expected to see conversions right away either, it looks like you happened to pick some good targets to start off!

Be careful if they catch you saying Free Credit "REPORT" you will be banned from the campaign, you can only say Free Credit Score. They are offering a Free Credit Score along with their subscription service, Free Credit Reports are given away by government.

Thanks macallan, you're right, I should probably change my landers to say credit "score".

Wow that's cool for your profit on first they, even if it doesn't keep up like this in the upcoming day it sure is a great motivation to push harder

Best of luck mate, I'll be following this, credit score is huge and i'm looking to get into it later after.

Aaron, you are the man son!

This is rad bro, and congratz on such fast profits!

If you really crack the code of finance on PPV, hello 5 figure days my friend!

Tame that beast!

Thanks, we'll see if I can get this making some money. Everyone says pick a vertical that is big enough to work in and won't burn out. I started out with dating and decided to try and expand into finance.

It's the two things I love most... women and money

Anyway, I posted the stats for day2, a small loss. I'm waiting on a payment from my network and then I should be able to ramp things up and see what happens. I'd like to be spending more so I can start removing the urls that aren't performing but I'm a little short on cash at the moment

Added stats for day 3. As you can see I didn't get any conversions yesterday but I think the CTR of 14% looks pretty good. I'm not really sure what a good CTR is for the credit niche on PPV though so maybe anyone who's familiar with this could chime in. I'm used to doing dating on FB where I get 50%-70% CTR on my landers so I'm not entirely sure what I should be shooting for here. I know CTR is not really that important and EPC is what really counts but I like to have some base line targets to measure against so I can gauge how something is doing.

These are targeted very generally and I am bidding on URLs like creditscore.com and freescore.com. I think I'm gonna try some different angles like targeting people who are buying a car or a house etc. I will put together some landers highlighting the benefits of having a good score when getting a loan for these things and see how that does. I will keep these running and throw some angles into the mix to see what performs the best.

Bid on domain.com, domain.co domain.c also! With this CTR you should split test your traffic, and check out other credit report offers. Let them run for 1-2 days. Let's say 200-200-200 clicks per offer! Oh, and never forget to improve your lander! Run at least 2 variations at the same time, keep the better and change the other one!

Thanks bstrd! I appreciate you posting here, I've read your success story a few times and know that you did very well with credit reports. I do use the url imploder to generate shortened versions of urls to bid on like you recommend. I'll check my networks to see what other offers are available. I've seen the Profinity offer on a few networks and A4D has FreeScore360. I'll try to split test some different offers and see if they perform better.

Thanks,
-Aaron

FS360, CreditReport.com, ThinkCreditReports.com etc. Split test them with your current traffic, pick the winner and split test that offer from different networks. I saw some wild things earlier. Offer from one network got around 6-7% conv. rate. Same offer from other network got 13-15% conv. rate! The key is: Never stop testing! Never. The offer, the lander, the network etc.

Thanks, I've requested FS360 from A4D and ThinkCreditReports from EWA. I'll throw these into the mix and see what happens. CreditReport.com seems to have been pulled from all my networks. One of my AMs said they reached there budget industry wide and were pausing the offer. Once these get approved I'll get them up and running. In the mean time I will keep working on new landers.

I added day 4 stats to post 2. I ran FreeScore360 but didn't get any conversions. The second set of stats is for the same lander running Think Credit Reports, I didn't get approved for ThinkCR until later in the evening so it didn't get to run very long.

My CTR seems ok for PPV I just need to work on getting conversions. Unfortunately I'm still waiting on a payment from my network so I can't afford to spend as much as I would like testing this. I would like to be spending 2x-4x more than I have been the last few days. I'll keep working with what I have and gathering data but I should have more budget on Monday.

Your CTR is really solid man. I'm sure you'll be able to get those conversion rates up!

Those are too few clicks to derive any accurate conclusion.

Pls send more clicks, you'll see a different picture :-)

Thanks debut, maybe you didn't see but, I am waiting on a payment from a network and don't have much of a testing budget left at the moment. I should get my wire tomorrow and will be able to crank it up. I agree that I can't make any definitive conclusions about my conversions with what I'm currently spending. At least I am able to get some sort of an idea of the CTR from my landers in the mean time. I've tested 3 or 4 landers so far and number 2 has been the clear winner so far. I should be able to start spending $50-$100 a day on this campaign soon but I have to keep most of my budget for proven profitable campaigns that I know will make me money. I couldn't have anticipated that my payment would have been late when I started this follow along but you have to make due with what you have and try to make the best of a bad situation.

Ran the same lander with 3 different offers, Think Credit Reports, FreeScore 360 and Free Score Finder. Not enough data to make any decisions about the offers but did get one conversion from Think CR. Should have more money to properly test starting on Monday.

I made a lander that targeted people who are buying a car and scraped a bunch of urls and keywords. The CTR was terrible compared to my other lander. There was a ton of traffic coming in on the car targets so I didn't run it for too long because I didn't want it to eat up the little bit of budget I had for Sunday. I will tweak the lander and see if I can get it to work for me because there does seem to be a lot of traffic in that niche. I'll post the lander when I get home and let you guys tear it apart.

I did get 2 conversions for Think Credit Report which was nice to see. I should be getting a wire today so we can see what happens if I start throwing some money at this campaign.

One other thing I've noticed is that my conversions seem to come in the afternoon/evening. I don't have enough data to fully support this but it does seem to be the trend so far.

Not a very exciting update... still waiting on funds. I did get one conversion yesterday but it doesn't show due to differences in timezones between me and the network.

Hey everyone, I really haven't abandoned this follow along but my network is making it extremely difficult. Nothing exciting to see here, the one conversion shown in the stats is actually for the day before (time zone differences). I think it really has some potential but $20-$30 a day isn't gonna cut it

Maybe tomorrow I'll get some money...

Think Credit Reports has been converting pretty well for me. Sorry it hasn't been more exciting with $xxx profit days but I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel to keep this going until I get paid by my network. I'm not gonna say what network it is here but I did post about it in another thread here started by people with similar issues.

Quick update, had a little bit of cash so I ran some more traffic yesterday. I also tested out a new lander variation based on the one that has been performing best. As you can see it did pretty well and had a CTR of 23%. The payout on Think Credit Reprots was lowered to $25.90 but converts well. I've been trying to get FreeScore 360 to work but I can't get that thing to convert to save my life!

I've also been tracking what keywords are performing in P202. Whenever a keyword gets up to 150-200 clicks and hasn't had a conversion I deactivate it in my campaign.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get a wire today so I can run this thing hard over the weekend.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you've enjoyed it. I will continue to post updates on my progress. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to keep running it at the moment. I'm out of cash and still waiting on my payment from a network.

Hey doppelganger , sad to hear you're still having payment problem with your network !

If you want, I have an LI account i don't use much with 125$ on it you can setup your campaign there, so you can keep going for another 5days I don't mind at all you pay me back later when you get your payments!

Hit me up if you want.

Mehdi

PS : I would only be able to see your targets, and anyway it's really not my intention to steal anything, just trying to help out since I can.

Mehdi,

That's incredibly generous of you and I appreciate the offer but, I can not accept.

I'm certainly not concerned that you would steal anything. I've already laid out the whole campaign for everyone to see anyways (traffic source, landing pages, offers, even the type of keywords I'm bidding on).

Instead, I think it is best to try and do something positive with what would normally be considered a bad situation. I have been spending my time combing through offers at other networks and looking for new campaign ideas. I've been building landers and scraping keywords. I will plan out a couple of new campaigns and have them ready and waiting to test. It may be good for me to spend more time planning and refining my approach. I think sometimes I tend to just grab an offer, slap together a page and let 'er rip. This could be a good thing for me. As they say, things happen for a reason.

Thanks again though for being so generous. You are an example of why this forum is such a great place!

Guess who finally got their wire yesterday

So, I said I would continue this follow along even though the contest was over. I was able to start running some traffic again yesterday, here are the results.

Spent: $41.07
Made: $24.50
Profit: $-16.57

I have access to a couple new credit report offers that I want to test out. Yesterday I ran 2 offers that I had previously run before but with different networks this time. I ran Think Credit Reports and Free Score Finder both with the same lander. Both of these converted for me in the past so I thought I would try them with some other networks. FSF was one of the first offers I ran but it was paused at the network I was using. Think CR was doing well for me but I wanted to try it with someone else.

I will run these for a couple days and see what the results are. There are a couple new offers that I have never run before but I need to get my landers approved by the advertiser. I'll send my stuff over to my AM for approval and keep running these in the mean time.

Hey everyone,

Nothing real exciting to report here but I'm still chugging along. No conversions the last two day. I ran the one lander that has been getting a decent CTR (10%-20%) but rotated 3 different offers on the back end (ThinkCR, Free ScoreFinder, and Profinity). I'm waiting to get approved on a couple new offers that I've never run before.

My goal for this weekend is to come up with 2-3 new landing pages to test out. I've been pretty much running the same lander for a while since the CTR was good and testing different offers on the back. I'm not seeing many conversions (1-2/day if I'm lucky) so perhaps it's time for some new landers and maybe some different angles.

Yesterday I ran 3 different angles. I spent a total of $61 and made $81. All 3 of my conversions came from one angle/lander. I revisited the car angle with a new lander but that didn't work out to well. I may try it again with some new urls/targets because my targeting seems a bit off. I think I may try targeting a bit more specific instead of so broad with this angle. It got a ton of traffic but not a single click (could be the lander too).

Targeting other credit reporting and credit score sites has still done the best for me.

Is anyone using a 2nd landing page to help presell these offers? Right now I'm just doing a popup which links to the offer. I was wondering if I should put another page in between the popup and offer to help sell the benefits of knowing/monitoring your credit score.

Guess there's only one way to find out.... TEST IT

Aaron, do you open the offer page from your lander in same pop window, resized same pop window, or in a new window (target="_blank") ?

I've done both but I usually open it in a new window.

Here's a quick update for yesterday.

Yesterday:
Spent: $60.63
Made: $108.00
Profit: $47.37

I'm gonna try and scrape some more targets to see if I can increase volume. Things are looking good, I just need to focus on learning how to scale/optimize this campaign.

doppelganger, sorry if you mentioned this already but how were you testing LPs and offers? Did you have a mod set up in prosper to rotate offers and rotate LPs? Or how did you manage this exactly?

It's funny you ask about that. I have a program that I wrote for FB that I've been meaning to update to handle PPV. It handles offer and LP rotation and cloaking. Currently, I've just been managing multiple LPs in the LI interface. I just need to update the code to pass keywords to my P202 so I can swap out landers/offers on the fly.

I updated the code for my rotation/cloaking program (I call it Director ) to support PPV campaigns. I can now easily split test different landers and offers without messing around in the LI interface. This should help me do some better split testing since I can now do weighted rotation and don't have to manage multiple sets of targets for a campaign.

I cut some targets that weren't performing, we'll see if that helps any. Today I will be adding some new URLs to target to hopefully increase the amount of traffic I'm seeing. What kind of guidelines are some of you using to decide when to remove a target? Are you basing it on the amount spent or just the number of impressions?

Here's the stats for yesterday. Not exciting but still profitable.
Spent: $45.30
Made: $54.00
Profit: $8.70

I'm still really new to PPV. I think I can turn this into a solid campaign once I learn how to effectively optimize this and continue testing/tweaking my landers.

Will take some time and money but, we'll get it there

Awesome follow along. Any updates?

Great Follow along! I"m curious about this landing page. Do the credit report advertisers or affiliate networks have problems with this kind of lander if you do volume?

Curious if anyone is doing this at a high volume.
