Stack Those Chips Son! (9)

Stack Those Chips Son!

This has nothing to do with how to play poker it just involves online poker. I used this technique to build an e-mail list of players pretty fast. I use to like playing before the DOJ cracked down on poker sites that accepted US players.

I wanted to be more involved in poker as a business and not just a hobby. So, I signed up as an affiliate to Full Tilt Poker. In their affiliate admin they allowed you to setup tournaments. You could setup whatever kind of tournament you want. Freerolls, single buy-in, re-buys, KO's, whatever.

What I did is setup a $25 freeroll tournament and put a $5 bounty on my head. You can name the tournament anything you want. So what I did for example was name the tournament "STMpoker.com Micro Freeroll" or something like that. Then I made sure that STMpoker.com had an Aweber pop that said something like "Enter your name and e-mail to receive the "STMpoker.com Micro Freeroll" password on 07/09/2012.

There was a lot of people that looked for any freeroll everyday. The closer the time comes to the tournament the more people start to see your tournament at the top of FullTilt's freeroll list. They see yours, visit STMpoker.com, double opt-in to your e-mail list to get the password and BOOM! About an hour or so before your tournament starts you get hundreds of people signing up, no joke. I only got to do this 3 times before DOJ busted Fulltilt but I built an OK sized list just from that. In fact the last KO tournament I held, I couldn't play in because they blocked US players. I could only watch.

I know you're thinking.. "a bunch of poker bums looking for freerolls how am I going to make money off them?" Good point but they do signup to poker related things. I got a couple to buy poker software type things and signup to a rakeback site that I was an affiliate of.

I haven't been able to try this again because I can't risk catchin some kind of stupid "online poker" charge. I wouldn't recommend a US person doing this right now but I don't know. Before things got shut down I had plans to run freerolls everyday to build a big list. I know sooo much more now that I wish I knew back then. I would have been able to build a bigger list and get things done faster. FullTilt is shut down now but there are other sites out there. I'm not sure if you can setup your own tournies on other sites or not but I'm pretty sure you can.

Tips:

Don't send them the password right away. In the Aweber auto reply tell them that you'll send them the password 30mins before tourney starts. If they get it any sooner, they share it all over the place. I had thousands of people registered to the first tourney that didn't give me their e-mail.

If you like playing, play and put a bounty on your head. It makes it fun. You get a lot of players coming by your table to talk crap about how they want that $5 bounty lol. The $5 bounty they get for taking you out is more than what 1st place wins. Just be friendly to them. I guess you start to build a relationship with your list right there.

There you go guys. Good luck and thank you for reading.

Couldn't you set it up so that on top of the password, everyone would have to enter their email as well to access? That way when passwords get shared that's a good thing for you -> more emails collected.

the password is only entered into the poker site (FullTilt). not your site. Another thing you could do is lock the password behind something like Blam. They'll share the password but at least you've made a couple bucks.

Awesome idea. We're there any US citizens charged that werent of the whale status? I think running under the radar with low dollar freerolls would keep you out of the limelight.

I don't think anyone was ever charged for "playing" just some owners charged for bank fraud and shit like that.

yep, Black fckn Friday...

Nice site Mehdi. I don't play anymore. People still play but I guess it's hard to
withdrawal. Why play for real cash if I can't cashout. I wouldn't risk it myself
with all this shit going on.

Living in America and can't play a hand of Texas Holdem online.
Rest of the world parties still goin though.
