Selling one product, gender neutral fashion accessory. Should I setup a site and try to make it look as legit as possible (its only one product, 5 variations) or a landing page with cart / order functionality?
I know I hate when I see a small web store makes it feel *iffy* but then again buying from a one page offer? I'm not sure about that either?
Pretty clueless on this one and I hate trying to fake a bigger store when I really am just selling one product.
Any suggestions welcome
I would build a simple micro-site with some testimonials, a small blog, and a page for each variation.

Look at some of the elements for building trust...
The inventor showing off the product proudly.
The hand-written signature.
The social-proofing on Twitter (easily faked if you're worried about that!)
The stylish imagery (very very important in the fashion industry)
I don't think a long sales page is the best way to build trust unless you have some truly awesome copywriting. With five variations, I think you could end up with too many options, too many calls to action... and without knowing too much about the product, presentation is usually important for anything fashion-related.
How are you going to be promoting the accessory? If you're taking the paid traffic route, you might be forced in to using a sales letter to direct the attention and conversion flow. But if branding or viral impact has any importance, go for legit. Build something sleek and stylish.
That reply really helped me out man. Thanks so much, that guys website is pretty much exactly what I need. I didn't really think about the twitter integration and all that. I was sorta stuck on a one page sorta deal that was setup as best as it could be. By variations I meant just color, that is the only difference between the products.
Anyways micro site is the way to go.
Thanks again
think it would be wise to have one mini site for women and another for men?
Really two different strategies here marketing wise.
Thanks
as a product vendor... I'd say this
1. Build a list and build a relationship with your list - build a "tribe"
2. Give away solid content on a regular basis. Provide links to offers after your content - like in the PS of the email... or at the end.
Thank you
I'm building 2 micro sites right now, one for men and one for women.
I think that's the right approach. Like you say, men and women are completely different sells in the fashion industry.
Good luck. Let us know how you get on!
I agree with the micro site idea, good luck!
Damn, nice Finch. And remember aqua test both variations; you never know until you have data on it.
