First time I've tried a follow along.
I've had success with Facebook and PPV. I've been struggling with mobile for awhile now. I'm having trouble using data I collect. When I think I've found something profitable I make a campaign with the positive ROI carrier/handsets and it goes negative ROI.
Current Campaign:
Angle - Typical Weekly Winner style.
Offer - Mundo Media - WAP: Win the NEW iPad - US
I also ran WAP: Win an iPad 2 v2 - US for the first $50
Ad Network - LeadBolt
Tracking: iMobiTrax
AM has been telling me about this campaign for awhile and I gave it a try at the beginning of this year. Didn't have much luck but he's telling me it is still going strong, plus I've been seeing it on LeadBolt notification ads every day, so I figured I would try it again.
First step:
I created 3 campaigns on LeadBolt - each separated by Carrier.
AT&T
T-Mobile
Sprint
2 text ads per campaign
Android OS, 2.1+, US only, Cellular connections only. All categories.
Initial bid: 0.12
From the few times I've had conversions on mobile campaigns, they were usually from AT&T and T-Mobile. I added Sprint after a few hours because at that bid the traffic was trickling in.
The Story:
Sprint completely took off and I was out $50 within an hour or so and had 0 conversions. (Running WAP: Win an iPad 2 v2 - US). Disappointed, I paused the campaign to re-think what I was doing. 30 minutes later I received an e-mail saying WAP: Win an iPad 2 v2 - US was being paused in a day and redirecting to WAP: Win the NEW iPad - US. It was already available so I gave it a try and restarted the Sprint Campaign and set it for another $50. I looked back later and had gotten 9 conversions off that. Set the budget higher and ended up hitting $150 Net
At that point I checked out the epc and it was $3, which is insane for a pin submit (in my opinion). My AM was out of office, so I sent him an e-mail just so he could check up and make sure the pixel wasn't double firing etc..
It didn't matter because the offer quickly stopped converting and went down and down until the end of the day I had spent around $500 and only had $330 or so in Rev. I figured it wasn't a huge deal since I was collecting data.
During this time I also decided to up the bid on T-Mobile and spent $50 bidding 0.26.
I had 2 conversions early on and it died off.
Day 1 Results:
Spent $514
Rev: $336
ROI: -34%
Day 2:
Took out a few handsets that were negative ROI and had already spent around double the payout. A few of them had given me 6 or so conversions each the day before when I was getting $3 epcs but quickly went negative after.
Started Sprint Campaign - $50 budget.
0 conversions.
Started T-Mobile Campaign - $50 budget.
5 conversions
Raised T-mobile budget to $100
0 conversions
Raised T-Mobile budget to $150
2 conversions
Took what I thought were potential handsets on sprint and ran a campaign only targeting those.
Budget - $50
Spent $35
1 conversion
AM told me today the offer was doing real well and there were no problems with the offer at all.
Day 2 Results:
Spent: $235
Rev: $69.3
ROI: -70%
Questions:
Do I have enough data to start cutting the fat?
Should I be looking at other offers on other networks? I went with Mundo because they own a lot of their pin submits (as far as I'm aware) and I wanted to go direct to avoid as much click loss as possible. I've run their web submits before with fairly good success.
Anything else I should be doing?
Current click loss with iMobiTrax is 10% which doesn't seem too bad.

I tried a few other landers that I saw via notification ads and they were only giving me CTRs of around 8-9% vs 14-16% on the current one I started with and edited a bit.
I tried to be fairly detailed in everything in case someone picks something up I just can't see.
I'm a little wary to continue the campaigns unless I get a bit of advice. The campaign seems to be going downhill quickly.
I feel like the offer is a major factor in this campaign, as I was making 150% ROI for a few hours after switching to the new one before it started nose diving. I'm not sure where else I can find good iPad mobile offers for this.
Just wanted to thank you for posting something so detailed. I know im digging deep here, but just wondering how things worked out for you? Did you ever get mobile working?
