[SITESCOUT] 14 Days - 14 ways to $250 days

STM members, sorry for the corny title but it oddly fit.

Happy to be a part of the forums, I was weedling around whether I should join or not for a while and definitely glad I did!

Im starting this thread bc I sometime get stuck in ruts of scraping too many ads, or just browsing the internet and trying to figure out what everyone else is doing, rather than doing more of my own stuff.

I recently had a really good site-specific campaign burn out for me, and my mission is to diversify, and gain a little more consistency by running containers and other cool stuff, but my main goal is really pushing the envelope of this new sitescout ad server I just bought. I've done successful banner ad campaigns before, but really want to crack this container ad thing.

---

Targeting: specific News sites
Offers:
- Refinance
- Auto Insurance
- a Clickbank product
- Make money from Home
- skin care
- build muscle
Linking: Mix of DLs and advertorials

---

I just submitted my first campaign in sitescout and got stuck with mostly dissapprovals from sites, and the sites I do have arent showing impressions

Quick update, I resubmitted my ad tag to all the sites, but instead of showing containers in my ad tag, I placed a full-size banner, and set the destination URL to Norton Antivirus' homepage. More of my site placements got approved. I think when ads are submitted through sitescout to the major networks (rubicon, admeld, pubmatic, etc) they will automatically dissapprove many container ad units because the destination URL most of the time wont necessarily match up with all links in the ad unit, and send a red flag.

Also of note when targeting HIGH-traffic sites, turn off sucky placements IMMEDIATELY. It looks like this guys shows below the fold or something. My average CTR is around .12 on these containers. $16 for a click? that just isnt right lol

I think im going to need to find some volume on above the fold placements, or placements right below the end of an article like Adblade does to make this container unit work. ( see example of adblade unit here ==> http://screencast.com/t/xcKP67j7on )

Update @7:30 pm -----

I narrowed my testing grounds down to two sites that are local newsmags in Kansas and Utah that receive a fairly good amount of impressions.
- ksn.com
- ksl.com

I uploaded my ad tags and included a retargeting pixel in there so I can retarget to the audience my ads show to in the future. I set the ad that the approval people will see as a well-known company too, just so there wont be any problems with that, and I can switch in my real offers once the sites are approved.

I set the campaign budget to $5 so if my campaign is approved early, it wont waste much $. Hopefully I'll have some stats to show off tomorrow.

So I learned something interesting...

The major ad networks in RTBs will ban your ad server if you switch up offers in your ad tags. This is part of the reason I have had a LOT of trouble winning impressions on my campaigns.

In short, if your going to be running container ads, you've either got to make 100% sure ALL offers your rotating are compliant with all the networks you're running on, or else you've got to have some Jedi-level cloaking.

To close out this thread I dont think I'll be running container ads, and focusing moreso on full-size banners.
