First PPV Campaign (22)

First PPV Campaign

Ok, here's my first PPV "learning" campaign. It's a Kobe vs Lebron email submit.

Offer: Email Submit
Payout: $1.70
Network: EWA
Traffic Source: LeadImpact
Tracking: Bevo
Hosting: Storm on Demand
Spent: less than a $1
CTR: 10%, CR: 0%

Landing Page:

Offer Page:

I know I have to run a lot more traffic to completely test this. But just thought I'd share. I plan to launch 10-20 different variations of the lander. Would love feedback on the lander and recommendations for targeting. Thanks!

Hi Patrick

Thanks for posting this.

Landing page looks slick, but im not sure if pulls the user i enough with the images. Have a look at the facebook ctr post jordan just did for a way of really pulling in the user with the images. The same works for PPV cause both FB and PPV are interruption marketing.

$1 is really not enough to give you any comfort that the stats are consistent. 10% ctr looks ok but with $1 spend i am not sure how consistent that will be.

Couple of questions though:

* how many views
* how many targets are you bidding on
* are you rotating offers?

for PPV email submits I normally aim for a 100% ROI ad therefore spend like 50-75% of offer payout per target before I make any decisions. If its got clicks but no conversions I run it for for an additional 50% or so of payout. If it has no clicks I drop it. If ive spend 100% of payout and have no conversions I drop the target.

So in your case - say you have 10 targets. I would spend about $6, but keeping an eye that 1 target does not eat all that budget.

Yep...tijn just gave gold away! Its really simple ...do exactly what he said! I will add this, rotate alot of offers to each traffic source to find which one converts, you'll be surprised! For instance rotate 5-10 offers (even if its the same offer from diff networks or similar offers) at one URL, using tijn $pend model then keep the one/s that convert, then optimize out.

06-01-2011 05:41 AM #4 patrick (Member)

Views: 49 (Bevo tracking only shows 20 clicks and 2 click throughs, LI shows I spent 73 cents - and I'm bidding .015 on everything, EWA shows 6 hits - also, it seems Bevo isn't realtime... that blows chunks... I even paid their $20 for a "pro" account)

Targets: 237 - (too many? - I used AffExpert URL Scraper)

Rotating Offers: No (I designed my lander to match the offer - should I not do this?)

Rotating Landers: No (Not yet... working on this... I was waiting till I had at least 1 conversion before putting in the additional labor here... wanted to make sure the offer worked)

06-01-2011 05:58 AM #5 tijn (Moderator)

Hmm. I tried Bevo a while back (like last year when it just came out) and wasnt impressed with their hosted offering at that time. Unless you use self hosted bevo, i would also explore something like prosper202 which is free and self hosted.

You will get real time stats and solid performance on Storm.

With 237 targets but limited testing budget I would recommend pausing all targets and testing them in batches of 10 starting with the ones that gave you most traffic.

Use same rules as before, but dont really spend more then 50-75% of payout per target if you are getting no clicks.

You can also adjust your timing and set the campaign loose at prime time for this market.

See here - Yahoo Clues Keyword Tool shows demographic and search frequency
http://clues.yahoo.com/#q1=kobe%20br...n%20james&ts=0

Re: multiple offers and landing pages. Be carefull as each variation with require more testing budget as its an additional variable.

I often do the following:
66% of traffic to 2 Landing pages (very different angle) + 33% Direct link to offer
2 "offers"- the same offer just from a different network.

Awesome start for your first PPV campaign dude! Will pop back into this thread once you have more data.

Sorry about pasting this... was having too many issues trying to upload a doc. I am focusing on Kobe and Lebron fan pages as well as pages selling Jerseys. Digging into my targets more. I'm also going to keep Bevo, but probably switch to Prosper202 over the weekend.

This evening's to do list:
- Choose 10 focus targets to start and pause all others.
- Create an additional lander - will upload here for feedback before putting into rotation

Current targets:

he - rather then you spending time picking your targets just set them all loose for couple of minutes and then pause all. then pick the ones with most views.

that is - if you have a way of getting real time stats on number of views per target.

06-01-2011 05:41 PM #9 patrick (Member)

Update: Now only running 10 targets that were producing clicks.
110 Impressions/10 Clicks/0 Actions

About to Launch this lander into the rotation as well:

My confidence will go way up once I get one conversion. Just want to make sure everything works.

06-01-2011 05:51 PM #10 2022 (Member)

wow that lander looks pretty sick lol

06-01-2011 05:58 PM #11 patrick (Member)

Thanks. Not sure about trademark violations so I made a subtle change to the o's on Facebook so they look like a's.

06-01-2011 06:44 PM #12 d3so (Member)

You switched to ewa lol. higher payout! I like to complete the offer myself first to see if it converts and I don't think this one does. Try promoting the ipad offer. I've had success with it.

06-01-2011 08:23 PM #13 bb7400 (Member)

Good looking thread so far. I am excited to see your progress moving forward. I am sure you will get one conversion here soon.

06-01-2011 08:46 PM #14 patrick (Member)

So I tested the offer myself. It's a Big Brands Rewards email submit on EWA. I used my Bevo tracking code, filled out an email address... then filled out the next page (address/cell phone), but did not complete the cell phone pin confirmation (it was a subscription). No action has shown up on EWA though.

1.) How long does it usually take the networks to show an action?
2.) Don't most email submits convert immediately after the submit or do I need to fill out all subsequent page or is there a chance this was scrubbed because it looked like a test?

Overall not too impressed with the offer which you're welcome to check out here: http://retailrewardsclub.com/jerseyzas/index.php (but then again I'm new to the game and don't have much to compare it against). I think I will start testing some additional offers if this one doesn't produce a conversion by end of day.

06-01-2011 09:00 PM #15 mediumlebowski (Member)

Can you get in trouble for using photos of LeBron or Kobe that you don't have the rights to?

06-02-2011 01:02 AM #16 Ryan Eagle ()

I would suggest against running email submits directly, they just never hold out long enough due to quality problems. Great lander though! It's a good beginning campaign - just make sure you communicate with your AM to run the right email submit becasue we may have 300, but the top 10% convert WAY better than the bottom %.

06-02-2011 01:23 AM #17 patrick (Member)

Campaign paused... $4.78 spent, 12% CTR, 0% CR... on to the next one.

@Ryan, I hear you... got the idea to push an email from @Stack's post (http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...istent-150-Day)

06-02-2011 06:06 AM #18 d3so (Member)

I'm running this on TV using your targets and a few others I chose.

Code:
http://awesomescreenshot.com/0c5e3gxc6
I definitely got clicks but no conversions. definitely gonna drop "nba.com". I'm running the ipad offer from ewa and it's converting on one of my other campaigns. I'm gonna test different targets tomorrow.

Attached is a shot of my lander and apparently more people think kobe is better than lebron, what a surprise!

I definitely believe I can make this profitable.

06-02-2011 06:17 AM #19 Mr Green (Administrator)

Sick posts going on here guys!

Those landers are definitely on the right track, last part is you need to find an offer that will suit like Dr Eagle said.

06-02-2011 06:31 AM #20 patrick (Member)

Alright... new strategy and offer in place... just need approval. Good luck @d3so and thanks again all.

06-02-2011 08:13 AM #21 stackman (Administrator)

Yeah i agree, patrick your landers are spot on!

Let us know how the new strat goes and i'll chime in! Besmir should be able to help out too, he knows this stuff like the back of his hand

06-02-2011 09:42 PM #22 kokofai ()

isn't it good to direct linking email/zip submit offer rather than using a lander for it? I know there is always exception to things, but from what I being told, and what I read, for offers with low pay out it is always good to use direct linking... What do you guys think?
