Optimizing Adult Traffic (25)
Hey All,
First post here so I am new to the STM forums, not to IM. I have been running some volume on adult traffic and I'm trying to scale a bit. Has anyone experienced HUGE fluctuations in EPCs over days of running traffic? I notice one day I have x,xxx rev, the next I may have xxx or xx on the same placements/offers and traffic sources. I am primarily using Traffic Junky and Exoclick. I understand scrub is involved, I'm just trying to optimize my traffic so I don't chew my fingers off every day.
which offer were you promoting ? Some of broad offers that are very popular and easy to convert are also known for scrubbing hard...
I am promoting Just Hookup, Local slags, and some of the international offers like erovie.
Dropping from 4 figures to 2 figures overnight sounds scrubalicious. I'd definitely be wary of any offer showing that much variation.
If you're using a landing page, make sure you're not experiencing any downtime or server lag. With a high volume of clicks, that can kill your campaign dead in the water.
Are you rotating your offers and split testing different networks? I've seen massive variation in how Just Hookup converts just by switching the network. Even then, it's still a bad offer for paid traffic - very unstable. I love the offer when it's hot, but I only promote it using free traffic from my own assets these days.
Adult offers are notoriously up and down. You've gotta try and compensate for the variable CVR by optimizing the crap out of your creatives. Push for a high CTR, and then keep pushing. Make sure you split test the offer on multiple networks and funnel your traffic towards whichever version is converting the best, but be aware that it might change on a day to day basis.
JHU are notorious for scrubbing dat ass. Like Finch is getting at it's most likely the offers are the reason for the fluctuations rather than TJ & Exo.

My adult traffic is much more stable than POF/FB for example. ePCs remain stable, the only thing u need to watch is the CTR of the banners.
I'll be damned if I know how you make money with running US offers on adult traffic.
Also ePCs are a tricky metric (thanks Mr.G again). different networks ecord less clicks = higher ePC. Measure your revenue instead of the epc.
I am also running some volume on TJ and Exoclick and it's been pretty stable for me but I've only been running it for a few days so might be too soon to tell. Will keep you posted...
JHU is a killer offer, but it's model is to have "fluctuating" EPC's to say the least. Little you can do about it.
Fluctuations in EPC are normal, but sometimes just odd to see it drop one day. Sometimes JHU fluctuates, but when it is making money, it is rocking out. I guess I just gotta keep testing those ad spaces. I found TJ to be a lot better at converting. Still trying to crack Exo. I've found POF to be more stable, but perhaps it's circumstantial, there is no way I have even tapped 1% of the available adult volume. What is typically the best placement?
If you see the mass drop, don't run it. Eventually if enough followed suit, they'd change their ways. Plenty of offers out there that don't follow the same model.

Isn't any, depending on your offer/angle etc.. you'll see different things will work.
You can also form a specific banner size to work around a certain angle, ie: 728x90 banners can be used in a much more creative way than a 300x250 and vice versa to fit your angle.
@sean - Affiliates thinking long term? Yeah right! It would be awesome if we actually could band together and create change.
I've tested jhu with exoclick and a few other places, they tend to scrub really hard. I've had it go as bad as $45 paid for a $5 lead.
JHU scrubs sometimes...
if you're running UK don't go with JHU, go with slags. I've been running slags for several months now and my epc has only fluctuated ~.05 - .10 over high xx,xxx in revenue (not huge volume compared to some of you on this forum i know) but still statistically significant. Don't go purely based on offer payout, as a lot of the better adult offers are the lower payout single opt ins, but they convert so much higher that the epc / revenue comes out way ahead of some of the "higher" paying offers
How is BeNaughty doing in the adult world ? Is it performing well?
running US offers is suicide. I've been hearing fantasy stories about 0.8+epcs for untrue and all kind of weird stuff. I'll be damned if I know how people get that when pushing more than 10 leads a day. Sounds more like an AM pitch than reality. JHU is even worse.
I think the solution for USA would be to run an alternative type of offer.
