Bid High First ?

Friends,

So I am playing with Adcenter (Bing) & Ad Desk (AOL) and I noticed that I am not getting any impressions when the bid is less - I just bid $0.02 above minimum bid

Someone told me to first bid higher first then optimize the page and then lower the bid

BTW someone told me you can be $2.00 but when you get to the top and getting impressions you can pay low ? - I did not understand what he meant...can someone answer this question ?

I'll start out by saying that I'm a newbie to PPC. That said, I started out (on Bing) with a bid price of $5.00 per campaign and watched it closely for about a week. I kept moving the bid to $0.20 above the avg CPC for the day (or certain time period within the day) until the CPC started jumping down in large increments, at which point I started bidding $0.02 above the avg CPC of the day. At this time, the bid price on most of my campaigns is below $0.50. One campaign just made me $48 today and I spent $3.79 on it. I JUST moved it down to 0.08 bid price after those conversions. It has taken a lot of testing.

Another thing to look at is ensuring that you have high traffic keywords. I checked my keywords in the Adcenter software to see what the traffic was like and also the avg CTR for the past month and then past 7 days. If my chosen keywords were low traffic, I would look into going wide with more keywords. I also look at what close competitors are doing before and while running your campaigns (so if they keep their ads up for certain keywords, then they more than likely have a nice traffic volume and return).

Another thing that I did was make sure that my ads were getting above 2% CTR.

I hope that this helps.
