Are people still making money with PPV?
I'm a member of half a dozen membership forums similar to this and they all have one thing in common - declining PPV discussion and success.
I see a lot of tutorials and success stories from 2011 on these types of forums but little to none in 2012.
As someone who is new to PPV, I find the thought discouraging.
My question is whether or not this is coincidence or perhaps it just isn't as good of a source of income as it used to be?
EDIT: as of 5/21/2012 I am broke from doing PPV

PPV is still HOT money, maybe not as easy as it used to be, but still ALOT of money to be made.

I'd heard that phrase so many times, but I'd never seen the actual clip...the movie's about some guy from my parents' generation getting it on with some lady from my grandmother's generation...not on the top of my quickster queue...

yep ppv is still a good place to make $1000 a day.
its also an easy place to start because:
1) low entry cost - like $100 (LI) to $1000 (TV)
2) simple targetting - keywords or URLs
3) high ctr relatively easy (as in 5%+)
also
ppv is driven by adware that users install in their browsers
it might not be TV or LI, but adware will continue to exist.
take 50onRed as an example

Sorry to hear that man.
Post your stats and approach as a follow along and you will learn heaps.
Dont see it as "loosing your shirt" but rather look at it as "buying knowledge" (i know sounds corny but its trye)

I must have gone through 70+ different campaigns and after 300k pops and only have 8 conversions worth of data to work with...
What should I do with it?

Why so much spend? Have you read the 40 day guide? did you make campaigns in the same niche? were they all on one traffic source?
I'd definitely start a follow along with it, as there's a lot of people here who focus on PPV and can chime in with great tips. Also check out the "Hottest Threads" in the top right of the forum homepage, there's a lot of follow alongs there for PPV with AMAZING advice!

Well here is pretty much how I was doing things:
Traffic sources:
- LI
- Trafficvance
I always 100% of the time would try campaigns on both, would usually cut it off if no conversions after ~$30 ad spend.
Mostly did dating offers because I thought those would be pretty simple. Occasionally I would go to the "Stacks, Mr. Green's & Besmir's Campaign Guides, Ideas, and more!" section to give some of their PPV stuff a go with my own twist.
I would split test between direct linking and a landing page at first and never really got past that stage due to lack of conversions lol...
On the rare occasion that I did see any conversions, I would optimize accordingly (if conversions coming from direct link scrap the lander, if conversions coming from the lander I would make another one to split test with instead of the direct link).
I've given the 40 day guide a good read as well as read up some stuff on affplaybook + cpvden.
Idk about starting a follow along campaign, 100% of follow along PPV campaigns in the follow along section make no money. Except for this guy:
http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...-Gaming-Offers grats to him!
Maybe I'm just not cut out for PPV, lol.

It's definitely not as easy anymore, but there's still tons to be made on PPV. I would recommend a follow along if you are really struggling. Hit up someone more experienced on Skype or here on the forum to get quality 1 on 1. They can cut your learning curve tremendously. Realize too that there are some follow-alongs that "fail" or "die out" once the OP found a twist that worked. You can usually infer the good parts of the studies. My first break-out campaign was a straight hybrid of two case studies on this forum.
I would also advise against putting all your money on the line when starting out. It can lead to tunnel vision instead of creative thinking. Do some financial planning to make sure you're never feeling extremely desperate, although for me at least, I know a little heat can help me get off my ass.

Keep at it. The follow alongs are partly there to get you to take action every day and write down the key results daily. In itself its a great technique to keep you focussed. It will also help looking back at a campaign.
Also - the follow alongs are there fore everyone to comment, not just mods. Some of the best advice on follow alongs has come from normal users!!

how long did it take you to get to that point

I had been using PPV for probably 8 months by that point. Once I had the campaign going it took maybe 3 months to get to the ~$1500 a day level, but that was more of an issue with cash flow than anything else. Early on I could only run the campaign a few days a week before I got paid again.
If you have never had a $XXXX a day campaign before you would be amazed how little a difference there is between a $30/ day campaign and a $2000/ day campaign. You just need to be creative when scaling.

I think this is very interesting, I would like to hear more about how you go about being creative when scaling, and the scaling process in general. If you would like to share some insights that would be great. Congratulations on such a high earning campaign.

I won't talk about any of my specific strategies, but I will tell you that the campaign we are talking about had 250,000 keywords in trafficvance alone. A tiny fraction of these actually got traffic, but I found thousands of targets with traffic and no one was bidding on them.

Wow 250k targets in one campaign? Ive always maxed out at like 1-200 haha. And also there is still plenty of money left in LI
