Facebook - follow along on my first campaign

After way too much time reading and thinking instead of actually doing I finally started on a facebook campaign.

The offer is a clickbank gaming guide that pays $18 per sale.

I initially spent about $50 testing different images and copy, was bidding CPM because the CPC estimates were really high ($2.50+) and I didn't really know what I was doing. After a few days I found some ads that were getting over 0.2 ctr at ~ $0.20/click had made a few sales so knew there was potential for the campaign.

After sorting through which ads were actually converting to sales I found out that one version that was getting decent CTR wasn't converting at all (300+ clicks and no sales), probably because the copy was promising too much and what people were expecting didn't match up with what the landing page actually said.

I then wrote a new ad and used that copy with the highest CTR images and broke it down into demos based on age and sex to find out who was actually clicking the most. That enabled me to eliminate some demographics who weren't clicking the ads very much.

Then last Friday I found a couple of really useful threads on this forum about bidding strategies. I made a new ad using the best copy and image targeting the demos I had isolated as being the most responsive, then using the new CPC bidding advice from here I managed to work it down to $0.10 CPC thanks to a CTR of about 0.35 . After a $30 spend I had made $36 - profitable, perhaps!

Interestingly, I had the campaign paused over the weekend and came back and had made two more sales. What is weird though is that the offer used to have an exit pop offering a discount that paid the affil $11 per sale and both those sales were for $11. Maybe people bookmarked it and came back and the exit pop shows if it isn't referred from facebook? Anyway, nearly 100% ROI based on those extra sales.

The next step for me is to test it with a landing page, I have written a flog style article about how the guide turned me into a gaming god, made me more attractive to the opposite sex etc etc. Now I am going to put that on a blog and see if I can improve the conversion rate.

Alright quick update - I have finished the landing page but havent had time to create ads and upload a bunch of images. I am still running the direct linking campaign and making a small profit every day. The CPC is down to 0.08 and the CTR rate has dropped off slightly but is still around 0.27. Will be testing the landing page today along with some new images.

Sorry guys, not much of a follow along really. I tested a few different landers and sent 2-300 clicks to each of them with ZERO conversions. Pretty frustrating, conversions are dying direct linking now too. At least I made a small profit but I thought this one had potential for a lot more.

Honestly, CPS offers are tough on FB. The users love freebies and have attention spans of a fly. Try running something you see others have had success with, edu lead gens, gaming, dating etc

For your first campaign I reccomend an offer with payout of 1 to 5... that way you'll much quicker and with less budget be able to isolate what works and what doesn't.

Thanks man that's good advice, the next offer I try will be some sort of lead gen paying under $5.

On the up side, I didn't lose money on this campaign and (for this niche at least) figured out how to create a number of of ads with 0.2-0.4 CTR.

I've found that CB products tend to come back like a bad meal. Maybe it's just me, but I'd say the refund rate has been average 50% and more like 90% on IM stuff. The trading systems have done better on CB but also at least 33% refunds. I note that Plimus have now binned all IM products, dunno why, but probably too much of a hassle. CPA offers are better in that sense. With CB I believe and I may be wrong that 90% of the money is in the launch, re launch, re brand etc. Bottom line, all CB promotion I have are on my blogs and are passive, I see them as Adsense.
