First campaign - Making Facebook Work

First off, I've never done any ppc. I am a SEO guy (AKA the guys that shit there pants every Google update). I suck at writing adcopy and have low technical abilities ( Dam prosper202 is confusing). The only thing I have going for me is a lot of time and a non quitter attitude.

I just started my first campaign yesterday which is for an international dating offer ( French). I tried to create ads for women since I thought it would be safer than ads for men ( Battle of who can show more boobs according to Finch). Unfortunately I am not a great writer and my copy sucks, therefore I've gotten really crappy ctrs. I just made some new ads for men to see how they do, and am getting them translated asap.

I don't think I'll be updating this daily,but probably every few days.

P.S anyone know if you need SSl For EWA global pixel tracking?

Good luck with your campaign! I'm sure if you post your ad copy people would be willing to critique it for you. Prosper can be confusing at first but once you learn your way around it's actually pretty easy to use.

Yes, you will need an SSL cert installed because EWA only uses HTTPS to fire the pixel.

Nice to see you here bro and posting your follow along, am not really an expert to throw some advice. But what i have read so far from this forum is adcopy doesnt matters much, its the image which brings you most CTR.
According to the experts here in forum, image stands out for 70% of CTR, ad title for 20% and ad copy for 10% or even less. Bottom line is you should try out more creatives and still if you are worried then you can always post your adcopy here to get some advice from all experts here.

Thanks Doppelganger. Does the type of SSL i buy matter? At namecheap; https://www.namecheap.com/ssl-certificates/comodo.aspx is the positive SSl fine?

Yep, that's all you need. I think I bought the same one recently when I moved my tracking to a new host. I think it was like $8 or something if I remember correctly.

Does that mean you won't get a conversion if the SSL cert isn't installed?

Nah.. it means that your tracking pixel won't fire so it won't automatically update in prosper, you'll have to run a report at your network, grab the sub id's and then go to the update tab in 202 and paste them all there

Thanks @dubbsy, I'm runing CPVLab for tracking and I just got the positive SSL from namecheap for $8. Beyond Hosting wanted $59/year.

You should also take into consideration that in general the image catches the eye but the ad copy makes the user click. So even if you have a good image, if your ad copy really sucks they won't click.

Update for day #1



My highest ad had a ctr of about 0.050.

Today I've almost got my SSL setup. Searched a ton and found a bunch of pictures for tomorrow. Still little confused with [[subid]] but my AM explained it more so I should be fine for tomorrow

Right now I have about 4 different ad titles/ad content and each ad has different pictures. Am going to re use the content/title and keep switching pictures to see if I can get a higher ctr.


Does anyone know what type of ctr is reasonable on Facebook? I've heard 0.20 is amazing. My goal is to get some ads with 0.10+ ctr tomorrow.

Also 50 clicks today = 1 conversion. I am direct linking. On average whats a decent conversion rate to aim for? Also after how many views should I kill a poor performing ad? Should I give it 1-5k views before I axe it?

depending on how narrow your audience is but on dating for me anything over 0.1% is where the bids start getting affordable. Some people get 0.2% on 3 million demographics but I have no idea how to get that kind of ad serving since I know they are using basically the same images as everyone else is running. Mostly likely facebook separates their premium ad stock vs shit stock.

0.1% seems doable. Hopefully I can get some good ads today.

Just waiting for my AM to respond to email since am having problems with the Advanced Global Post Back URL. I get it from prosper but my offer at EWA doesn't have the option to add the pixel. Other offers have the Add Pixel button but this offer doesn't for some reason.

Update! After testing a bunch of ads I was able to get some with 0.1%+ CTR . I've gotten click costs to around 30 cents per click now. The problem am having is getting people to convert. Even with 50+ clicks to the offer I might only get one conversion.

you just fall in love with the offer, bad idea. your targeting might be suck, your image not enticing enough

Did you test the offer on other networks?

It could be that, or your targeting is just off... people click on shit all the time if it catches their eye, then they see what it actually is and leave. Try adding a lander to pre-sell the offer more.

Testing with one network at the moment since am only in 2 networks and the other one doesn't have the offer ( Joining more networks as I speak). Am thinking even if my targeting is off and everything else I've done is wrong I should still be seeing some conversions on a dating offer after 200 or so clicks.

How is it going Izaya? are you still running dating of FB? What have you tried lately? I am trying to get dating going and having some problems as well.
