Sorry for your loss, no one's safe these days. Google oughta rethink how they let negative SEO affect SERPs.
yeah, still assessing what the next move will be at this point.
paid traffic x paid traffic x paid traffic.
if you master the skill of running paid traffic and turning it into a profitable business you will be able to do this over and over and over and over.
not just cpa offers. any kind of product!
I am amazed at how many businesses continue to just rely on organic traffic. There is sooooo much opportunity out there!!
also....
googles & facebook have to continue to grow their revenue.
the only way they can do this right now is by people buying more ads.
Now how do they convince us to invest in buying ads?
the only way forward is really paid traffic.
you can't rely on google because every fucking month or 2 they change their minds about whats 'right' and then fuck a good % of the people.
i got fucking ass raped this week with this new update and we weren't doing ANYTHING remotely shady... only 100% white hat stuff... all my page 1-2 rankings are gone.... all of them.
how the fuck does that happen?
i had page 1-2 rankings for a shitload of kw's... and they're all gone.
In your case, I'd be a little patient to see if they correct some of the "collateral damage" (as Matt Cutts calls it - he's douche btw)
I'm getting out of SEO and selling all my sites. I had enough of this childish game. You simply cannot build an SEO business anymore. If you thought that you where building good content and doing "white hat" SEO, think again.
It's all about building a brand, not satisfying an algorithm at Google HQ.
As much as I agree with the sentiment that mastering paid traffic is the way forward, that path isn't without troubles of its own. Quality scores, frowned upon ads and general Google and Facebook bastardness are all factors that can hurt your business, even if it's relying on paid traffic.
There's no such thing as a successful long-term business if it isn't diversified and capable of drawing traffic through its branding and lasting value to the end-user.
Every website I take on, my mission is to make it the 'go to' site of a given niche. When you adopt that mindset, companies like Google and Facebook tend to make decisions in your favour because your objectives are the same. A site that stands out from the competitors and delivers valuable content may go ignored by Google, and it may get occasionally screwed in the algorithm stakes, but it won't go unnoticed by the grassroots users.
I think making SEO a top priority of any website is naive. Your top priority should be to understand the psychology of the target market and use it to position your brand. Things like social shares and rankings on Google will follow.
If we spent as much time understanding our users as we did trying to understand Google, we'd all be gajillionaires.
Sucks to hear about your site. Yea I think we probably need to focus on social branding now. Probably one of the best ways is to build a site that develops its own community. Those kinds of sites have massive success as you can see from Facebook, Twitter, 9Gag, Yelp, Pinterest, lots of different forums and so so so much more. It seems like social sites is where all the best traffic is at.
That new update is a bloodbath and a half,
Really really close friend of mine runs an SEO business and more then half of the results were just washed off the board overnight, lucky for him the contract says Google is third party and he is not responsible but my god the phone never stops ringing.
I have seen some crazy search results lately as well lol, blogspots ranking number 1 for making money online, no idea what this google dance is all about but rumour has it, its to do with bringing more people onto adwords then gaining organic strength through SEO
Hey Buddy ...
Anything exciting about the offers.
Let me know something about this ....
It blows my mind how they can make this Penguin update...seeing that there is iminent action against them from the FTC for "manipulating" search results to favor their business model.
Youtube rankings got a MAJOR boost with this latest update - no wonder since its their highest growing advertising revenue.
They are also "forcing" webmasters to use their lame +1 thing
R.I.P SEO!
I'm in the same boat here - pretty much destroyed my hobby site, used to bring in around $2000-3000 a month & i loved filling it with content. I was ranked 1-2 for some really high keywords (250k local) e.t.c. Over night I dropped back to 50/disappeared from rankings & nothing seems to move me. I had been exploring Facebook as a traffic source for a while & managed to get a real nice fanpage going but 3-4 weeks prior to panda it was deactivated & had its fans removed for uploading an unsuitable image (Didn't break their TOS, but if reported their system automatically disables). 2 Months on and Facebook have finally re-activated it after I got touch with their marketing manager Paul Adams (Found his e-mail by fluke). As usual Facebook brought their high level of quality and only recovered 1,000 of my fans.
Anyway, enough of my violin playing - the algorithm changes stem from the ALN blog network. Matt Cutt's has a chip on his shoulder & took it personally, he made all these crazy algorithm changes that have damaged innocent peoples businesses & there is no way to fix it as it's on such a wide scale.
