Write in the language of your audience

I just posted this on facebook.

But as STM is kinda special, I decided to give you a bit more insight.

Pace gets it "wrong"?

And some get it right

Here is how you can check for yourself!

Step 1: Pick a couple of primary keyword related to your market / niche - ie "make money online"

Step 2: Search google for that keyword

Step 3: Select the "reading level" search tool

Step 4: Filter results for "Discussions"

Step 5: Check the reading level

Step 6: Click on one of the level to find pages that fit that category:

Warrior Forum Advanced? Bullshit. But I guess the big G says so, so it must be true!

I am already aware of this, but I still make the mistake too often.

It's especially hard if you have spent a few years in the "real" corporate world where talking "high-brow" is a must.

Note that you can also check readability stats in Word if you write some copy there. Click on "Review" in the menu, then click "Spelling and Grammar" and you'll see the stats after the spell check. (If you want to go straight there just select a word first, when Word asks you if you want to check the rest of the file, say no and you'll get to the stats window directly.)

Nice post!

I think the '1% advanced' on my blog must be down to interpretation of my balls.
