Wifi Traffic - Mobile

I've read through a few posts that suggest blocking all wifi traffic without much of an explanation other than low conversions. Is there a specific reason wifi doesn't convert as well?

Off the top of my head:

1. Wifi wouldn't work/isn't allowed on offers that require a subscription. If the person is using his phone as a computer/gaming device, he may or may not have a cell plan for the phone. Targeting him would be a waste because no cell plan = no phone number = no subscription/conversion.
2. It seems a lot of people play games when they are on Wifi. Again, this goes back to people using their phones more as gaming devices rather than phones.
3. Wifi comes from every direction with tons of devices. For example, some carriers only carry certain phones and you can optimized based on that. Wifi doesn't restrict any handsets... it's a free for all.
4. Wifi users may possibly be out of the location you want to target. Example: Verizon users will always be from the US. Wifi users can be using proxies and may or may not be from the US.

At least those are my thoughts! :-) Goodluck.

I've tested WIFI vs carrier traffic a fair amount and wifi has a much harder time converting with PIN submits, for probably all the reasons mentioned above. The strongest being a good % of handheld devices using WIFI won't have a phone number at all, such as ipods, or sony PSPs. If your targeting WIFI i recommend narrowing it down to specific handsets that are more likely to have a phone plan.

Yep I agree with what Shant said, To me its all about getting tighter targetting. More variables to think about when testing wifi traffic.

You can make any targeting work on mobile, we recommend blocking wifi while testing since you don't get that precious carrier data and for the reasons mentioned above.

You can get wifi to work with lead gen pretty well.

Also there are 1 click mobile offers right now where all you need to do is click submit and it converts. The advertiser can't pull the cell number when you are on wifi. Make sure you get as much info from the advertiser (aff network) as possible before starting. They may not work on wifi as well as specific carriers.
