Text message marketing?

So in the last few weeks I have been getting text messages stating that I have won a $100 wal mart gift card and go to www.xxxxxx.com to claim your offer.

How did they get my phone number? I have a Verizon iPhone.

Spied on any coreg paths lately?

No. It looks like there are sites out there that sell cell phone numbers by carriers. Wonder where they get this information from...

afaik this is illegal unless you opted in somewhere.

Yeah it is strange because I didn't opt in anywhere at all. I received a total of 5 text messages this past week alone.

first contact customer service of your provider and ask them to block unwanted message
second, contact FCC or equivalent and file a complaint. if you are in the US here is the link:

Yeah, someone out there is illegally spamming phones...both my ATT mobiles got similar spam messages & I complained both to AT&T and to the FCC. Even created a step-by-step flow for taking care of it as fast as possible, since it's not exactly a money-making activity.

Still, I have a strong belief that what WE do is hurt by people who do it this way...and in the long term, people who don't follow the rules make us look bad as a whole group.

I know your question is about Verizon, but here's the deal with AT&T. No time to play around with image sites so I just uploaded the PDF to my website. Download it here:

I also included step-by-step in there about the FCC (like nayeem's link above with a bit more details).

Hope that helps someone else.
