A little Facebook info from an insider (17)

A little Facebook info from an insider

Not much here but some info I thought I'd pass along.

I made it kind of a priority recently to get an "insider" at FB who can provide me with some info when stuff is going down there and such. Luckily, I found one, who while not giving tons of good stuff away just yet, has let me know some interesting information that you guys might care to know as well:

* The payment issues of the past couple weeks, where people are being banned very quickly for "suspicious payment activity," even when their cards are not fake/vcc's/etc, is an internal issue that they're working out with their merchant provider
* This also applies to Paypal payments -- some people are being disabled for linking to their PP account, which is an error on the FB side that they're working to fix
* By default, for the time being because of a clamp down on security, if you want to use your agency account and add a new credit card, you must have it whitelisted -- to have it whitelisted, just email your rep and say "please whitelist my credit card and address" and they'll do it
* The whitelisting, when it's done, whitelists everything associated with your CC #, address, name, etc... bypassing previous bans and DISABLING automatic credit card filtering for your account going forward!

In other words, because FB has had these internal payment issues, they are having their reps ASSUME that your card was WRONGFULLY banned, and unban it without question... use this to your advantage before they fix their internal problems!

Another little fun fact she told me is that 90% of the spend on FB is normal users and small time advertisers, not agency accounts. Also, that agency accounts don't (to her knowledge) receive higher likelihood of seeing impressions, but DO get higher priority in the queue for moderation. We all already kinda knew this, but this proves it I guess.

Anyway, that's all I've got. Hopefully some of you can see the potential of some of that information up there and use it to your advantage -- I already have.

PS - I'd appreciate you guys keeping this info here inside STM. The more who know about this stuff, the less likely it is to be useful to us, so cherish your $99/month payment and keep it to only a few eyes.

What up Josh!

Literally going through agency process now, and everything you mentioned just happened to me (credit card banning) and they told me to same thing.

Great information... For those that are in need to get new accounts and don't have an agency one, when can we know if it's "safe" to create new accounts?

BTW how's the process to get an agency account at this moment? Seems like the method listed in here doesn't work that well anymore.

It's extremely difficult now, unfortunately. There are many, many more hoops and hurdles you have to jump through.

Heads up

Actually, my contact just let me know today that starting this week, if you aren't an officially registered agency of record with a company, you will not be able to get agency accounts soon. This is getting frustrating.

Advertising agency that coordinates the purchase of media time and space for a large corporation that is likely to have a number of different agencies handling the various divisions and products. Appointed by the advertiser, this agency makes all the corporate media contracts and receives payment from the other agencies involved (usually 15% of their 15%), for the media placement of their advertising.
josh -> what mechanism do fb use to check the "officially registered" ?

Will they just check press release sources like this:
http://www.dmnews.com/agency-of-record/topic/1933/

Or is there a better source, or database?

They're calling the end-purchaser of the offer and asking them, and requiring you provide that information upfront in step 2 of the application phase.

So, if you send auto insurance leads to blahblahinsurance.com, they've got a team who is now checking into who buys those leads, then calling that company and finding out if you're legitimately the AoR.

It just screwed me out of one of my accounts -- I woke up this morning to a new one of ours being knocked from $15k/day over three accounts to $50/day parent/child accounts, and an email that they can't work with our company or provide any more support. (this is a separate one I was setting up to test this AoR stuff the insider told me about, and it appears she wasn't lying)

wow! So they dont do this just for the first campaign you setup under your agency account, but actually any new campaigns?

thats gonna make things hard!

what if your not collecting leads - will they still put your account through this scrutiny and try and phone for example the business your advertising for?

Like if i put some ads up for a local mom&pop shop?

I asked my pal five minutes ago, she said:

For the first 30 days of the account, you're under scrutiny, after that it's on a random basis.

She said they don't have a reasonable way to do it if you're not collecting leads and doing high volume. If they can't see on the form or privacy policy who you're sending leads to, she said she doesn't know the exact procedure they're using. My guess is they're seeding the forms with phone numbers and trying to find out who calls from the call center, but who knows?

That's all I've got for now, lmk if you want me to ask anything else and I'll see what she says.

Ask her:

What about those that sign up as a direct advertiser, but are still placed on the FastTrack Program. What sort of scrutiny is happening there? Since we aren't applying as an agency technically.

Few days ago FB banned me because of the new CC issue.
Just got an email from a FB rep telling me that they reactivated my account.
