Colour Case Study Part Dua! (20)

Colour Case Study Part Dua!

Sup! What is going on?

Here's round 2 of my couple of parts colour case study

This time I took it to PPV where my others roots are in and I tested some pretty basic colour shenanigans to see

Number 1 : What is the best colour button for your ctr?
Number 2 : Does background colour effect your ctr?

Now keep in mind I was solely going for CTR stats on this campaign, because in PPV I usually go POP -> proper lander -> offer

So my proper lander is where i would do the split testing for conversion rate

Alright so first of all here is the button shit!

There is my lander, it sure as hell got the K.I.S.S tick of approval

And here are the button colours I tested!

So the results are in:

Running with the buttons as follows here were the ctr's!

I ran $1000 worth of traffic over a decent bunch of targeted websites evenly split among the different buttons

Blue: 5.2%
Red: 6.7%
Orange: 3.2%
Black: 4.1%
Yellow: 9.4%
Purple: 7.8%
Green: 6.2%

The winner was yellow? WTF! That button I could barely see the click here? yeah I have no idea? It almost doubled the colour that I have always used being the BLUE

I also think if you guys took it further and used maybe blue underlined click here text on top of the Yellow button it would take it even further!

deedsmedia
dubbsy
marketone
niekrac

Are the dudes who picked this and I am interested to know why you thought that, except for Dubbsy who thought I was being tricky and gave it away in my headline "Poll-i-nation: Colour case study" Maybe those hater goggs are effecting your eyesight dude haha!

Anyway next of all I started to mess around with the background colours like this:

I tried the 7 colours that I used in the button test and I can tell you, the best colour for running a PPV campaign is white.

WHITE was the clear winner as the CTR tumbled massively if I used a strong colour for the background of the lander.

Anyway thats part 2 done for you people I got a few more parts still to come, but in due time patience is a virtue

Hope this helps some of you PPV'ers out there

And it showed me, test weird colours, weird shit works in this game lol

Peace!

Nice man, yellow.. Never tried that! I did test background colors before on ppv and white always performed better for my cases.

I can tell you why I picked yellow: It was by accident :-)

We could not see the buttons as we voted, so I just thought what color would get the most attention. Green would have been my second vote.

What about the conversion rate of the buttons? Double the CTR can be fine, but it does not mean doubling the conversion rate.

Button that has invincible click here is winner, I never thought of it before, thanks for this awesome case study
and anyway you are using "dua" as your thread title, have you ever learn Bahasa before? sorry for out of
topic, I am just curious

@deeds

Gotchya haha, but I acknowledged that, of course ctr doesn't always mean higher conversion rates but that's not what I was testing I was testing the ctr of the pop in which you want to have as high as possible to gather as much traffic as you can to push onto the landeing page.

The ctr from the pop to the lander varied, but the conversion rate was very consistent from lander - offer.

Haha sorry corona I only know limited as Indonesian from grade 5-6 hahaha and the numbers and a few words just stuck with me ever since

If I was to speculate, it might actually be because they can't see it well. So they think "wtf does that say?" and it engages them to spend a second focusing on it. This could increase the time they spend on the pop, so rather than closing it straight away or ignoring it, they get intrigued. It's human nature to stop and look at something that you can't understand or make out, you almost feel defeated if you can't do it. Well baited Maynzie.

Conclusion: Always split test.

Zeno you're a mad dog, good as input

Conclusion: Some New Zealander's do have brains Hahaha

03-29-2012 08:51 AM #9 Mr Green (Administrator)

I like that explanation Zeno. I know most people would build a lander and good straight and use blue buttons by default. In the case of this test, if you went with the blue you would of lost 45% of click throughs compared to the yellow. That is a campaign right there.

I believe ya I like NZ'ers anyway, bunch of good people I've met so far,

You involved in something chemically related?

03-29-2012 10:15 AM #12 zeno (Administrator)

Halfway through my PhD in chemistry.... phys chem, spectroscopy, etc. I guess you could say that's chemically related. ;D
And yah NZ's the place to be! Though I like going to aussie, I like the vibe of big cities and the ample number of attractive women walking about. I do head over there for science of course, not just to look at women.

Fk dude no shit haha, well done man thats awesome, Chemistry fast became my least favourite science haha after year 12 but props to that man thats awesome!! Doctor Zeno on the way

Yeah Melbournes got its fair shair of booty ey haha, Ill make it over to NZ one time soon and be sure to hollah at ya buddy

Whats up Maynzie! I picked yellow because your smiling happy face wouldn't let me pick anything else, lol! Also to me it attracts the most attention. I was thinking if you outlined the words inside with a black or blue might make it pop even more.

03-29-2012 06:56 PM #15 harrypotter (Member)

thanks for the post man!

holy crap... "Orange: 3.2%" died hard which was my guess.

and i had a reason for the answer, which was actually results published by Ryan Deiss.

from my notes on his report:
"for buttons, orange outpulls ANY other color with big blue text"

then I went out to some of his sites and found the exact color scheme used:

orange = #FFB500
blue = #15346D

guess it always come back to split testing...

--

what do you guys think of this? the CTR of the button color being dependent on the niche + demo?

reason I say this is because I remember for ppv, sound on pops would decrease CVR for offers like credit report.

so... would it be possible that yellow button works for a certain niche + demo... and for other offers (for example ones that require more "trust"), yellow could go against it?

just a thought

guess we can only find out with more split testing!

probably a valid point there nigz I mean from the original study it showed gender did change the best colour, but not sure how much it would effect the demo

maybe that can be an extended part of this study haha

03-30-2012 12:28 AM #17 stackman (Administrator)

As already mentioned here, the button color and CTR will definitely be affected by the niche, demo, and the URL people are visiting (ie: if someone is visiting msn.com and expecting blue, then a bright green background will throw them off, but still really interesting to see how different colors perform.

I just did this same test with 4 colors last week (for font) on a white background, and definitely didn't do yellow.

I don't have the #'s but the order from best to worst based on conversions was:
1. Red
2. Blue
3. Black
4. Green

Guess what I'm testing tomorrow... YELLOW. I'll report back here with the results

03-30-2012 12:34 AM #18 maynzie (Moderator)

That's good man definitely see consistency across both of our tests with a similar order with those 4 colours except for green

Try yellow this will be very interesting, I made sure i ran decent volume to make sure it was just one off, thanks for your input Stacks

Color choices could be effected by the users age. I can't seem to find it now, but there was a study that showed how people preferred different colors based on their age. Problem is I forgot the damn age brackets.

If I dig up the article I'll post it here.

What up Maynzie?! First of all Congrats on becoming a Mod. You deserve it man. I've been learning a lot from your threads/posts.

I chose yellow because I see a lot of people choosing yellow as the Call-To-Action Button color and wanted to see if they chose it for a specific reason. And also just like @Marketone said too...

I picked yellow because your smiling happy face wouldn't let me pick anything else, lol!
