danny, for baidu you need to find your local agency for that to fund your account or just open a bank account in China or get someone you know in China to help you for that. It's a pain in the ass to get the account opened if you don't know someone that can handle that for you. The deposit is about 5000 RMB for baidu.
Social network you can go with www.renren.com but you need to get someone in China too as I failed to open account there as a Malaysian born Chinese myself.
