Nervous about starting with Facebook - need advice

Hey guys/gals,

I have been wanting to start with FB but after all of the hassles I see I am reticent to start there for fear of getting something going and then having it crumble around me.

Obviously, it can and does work regularly since there are many of you (and others) that use FB successfully.

So my questions are:

- What are some general guidelines/rules for advertising on FB?
- What are blatant no-no's?
- What is the best way to run FB campaigns with minimal interference from FB itself?

Thanks in advance.

Dustin

- What are some general guidelines/rules for advertising on FB?

Don't do/run anything naughty on your personal account unless you're fine with losing it. Read their advertising guidelines and know them like the back of your hand. Don't run ads/campaigns that will obviously piss off a lot of users - when they complain/press the X on your ads a lot they will get retro'd and that's not good for your account standing. ALWAYS have adverts heading to a URL on your own server so that you can control redirection. ALWAYS check the offer pages on mywot.com to make sure they aren't red rated, they will not get through. Don't keep resubmitting ads that are constantly being disapproved - if they sneak through they will likely be retro'd anyway and that's bad, again.

- What are blatant no-no's?

Calling out or insulting users. Running things that are red on mywot.com. Running products/services that are forbidden in their advertising guidelines. Baiting and switching your product with something that fits the last two and thinking no one will notice. Image wise be careful with ripping off other peoples IP. Make sure any landers don't trap users with exit-pops and other shit. Don't make multiple advertising accounts until you know what you're doing. Cloaking is one way to try and break rules and get things through but you should learn how to make $$ with completely legit campaigns well before relying on cloaking.

- What is the best way to run FB campaigns with minimal interference from FB itself?

FB does not interfere. They approve ads, disapprove, disapprove later on or ban. The only other thing to note is to not be a dumbass and log in from every IP you can think of in an effort to look like you teleport around the world. Figuring out bidding/volume/placement etc is a whole different ball game and is an automated system.

Basically, read every thread in the FB section -> start some safe campaigns (gaming, dating, physical products, leadgen) with low budgets, get data, test, get a feel for FB. Pissing away a few hundred bucks just seeing how FB behaves is an important.

Zeno covered it!

...but realistically Facebook does interfere, but they do it with the best intentions. Theyre trying to keep they're system clean, so if you want to advertise with the rules you'll have a MUCH more pleasant experience. You won't need multiple accounts or be frustrated with disapproval's. This is why you want to be cautious what you advertise. Along with the niche's Zeno mentioned you can get into credit reports, mortgage leads, debt help, etc.. - If you've ever ran with google, Facebook follows similar rules on whats allowed and what isn'.t

I definitely agree. Don't be afraid to lose money, because you will. Just make sure you learn from your mistakes and you'll get comfortable with the system. If you're going to give up after losing $50 or $100 because you "couldn't get it to work" then you'll never get it down the way you want.

Also! Even if you're running a campaign that gives you 0% ROI, as long as it's not negative don't let it discourage you. You didn't lose any money, plus:

1. You can get your account spending limit to increase this way
2. You're able to learn what is and isn't working and get more familiar with FB
3. If you're using a CC you're racking up points

I would suggest you read every damn thing about FB on this forum, then start creating a guide or plan, start with what Zeno said, if you do not make a guide or plan, you're failing. The guide or plan will be updated throughout your journey once you learn the rope. There is no perfect guide or plan, you fine tune it

facebook and adwords quite similar. hv to be clear and tell people what is being offered and offer it.

i sell supplements and biz ops on facebook.

the wording is important. balance the hype and the tips without affecting conversions.

and the product needs to perform. once enough unhappy customers write to facebook (or adwords), the ad will be called for review later on..
