Hello Fellow Stackers,
It is time.
I have been reading everything on the forums. I have been inspired and educated and fired up with the stories that I have read. I have been humbled with the expert advice that I have seen shared by the Masters here.
In short, it is time for grasshopper to put his arms on the hot pot, pick it up, get branded, then leave the temple to make my way and riches in the world of AM. I will have to snatch that pebble from blind Master Po's hand, too, but he is slowing down and I am getting smarter...
I am prepared. Following the advice of others that have gone on before me, I have done the following:
- Read the "STM Affiliate Marketing 101 40 Day Guide" backwards and forwards
- Setup my FB account and funded it
- Setup a Lead Impact account and funded it, too. I had decided to do PPV until I had a great chat with my AM and decided to do FB instead. I can switch to PPV traffic after doing my 30 on FB.
- Got accepted to a network and I have plenty of offers ready to make me $$$
- Setup my brand new VPS and SSL certificate
- Purchased and setup and tested CPV Lab on new VPS
- Practicing setting up landing pages (not my strength but I am working on it). The Landing Pages On Speed tutorial has helped a great deal and I LOVE pixlr now!
- To ensure I stay on task, I've setup a project on Basecamp (use it all the time) to ensure I do all my daily tasks, including reporting back to you guys for your input. My first 31 days have already been setup and planned out. Milestones and To Dos are in place, along with reminders.
- Staying in contact with my AM on a daily basis
I truly understand that this is not a sprint but a marathon. I don't get involved in something unless I plan to go all in. This is no exception. New to AM but not new to online sales and marketing. I noticed that some of these Follow Along's don't go all the way and I pledge to you not to let that happen. Campaigning, reporting and tweaking every day, Baby!

i hope you achieve your goals to man, 1k a day is def. doable but it def. wont happen over night. set smaller goals, hit them make sure they are conistant and move forward, once you hit 1k a day its alot easier to move to 2k a day then it is from 100$ a day to $500 a day

Day #1 - Let's Get It Started
Master Po says, "Young Caine. When I was a boy, I fell into a hole in the ground, and I was broken, and I could not climb out. I might have died there. But a stranger came along and saved me. I don't feel like I have fallen into a hole in the ground... yet, but I am certain it will happen. And I hope to be one of someone's 10 obligations.
Launched two campaigns today on FB. Both were Email Submits. One is for a free Apple iPad 2. The other is for a free Apple MacBook. Following the suggestions in STM 40 Day Guide. Payout on both is $1.60. Thought FB would have approved or denied my ads by now but they have not. No problem, I can discuss my approach and see if anyone can offer a gem or two. Had to create landing pages for both campaigns because they had exit pops. But I used tijn tutorial on quickly creating lps and made short work of that.
Chose these offers because my research showed they were converting well. My approach, since each is a giveaway, to go after individual silos of people based on their "Likes" and other demographics. I've written the copy to hopefully speak to them and get them to respond. Trying to speak to them in their voice and also use the backdrop of current events to help convince them to click and submit their email address.
Created the Google Custom Search Engine to help locate images and it is doing a fantastic job! Found so many images quickly that it makes setting up these ads easy, somewhat.
Understand that the path to success consists of many smaller victories that build on each other. Doing the same here. My goal is to make these campaigns profitable for at least 3 consecutive days. Then I want to move on to Dating. Everyone seems to say that the trick to Facebook is to crack the code on connecting the right offer to the right group. Makes perfect sense and appears the only way to make it work is to actually do it and pay your dues.
Ok, one last check and still no word on approval. Guess I will call it a night then and check things in the morning...

You might have a hard time getting those two offers through without a cloaker. Facebook generally doesn't like those types of offers due to their "scammy" nature.
Yeah email submits don't fly with Facebook. As for the approval speed, sometimes it takes 5 mins, sometimes it takes over a day. Just have to get used to their bs.
I believe both of you (stache and doryphoros) are correct. I did not want to do the game example in the STM 40 Day guide because I don't play those games and don't have the knowledge to speak intelligently about them, much less market them. So I went with the Email Submit example.
Ok. Lesson Learned.
I will get started on my Dating campaigns. I've been approved for one in the UK (Be2) and two in the US (RichMen and Black Fling) but RichMen seems to work better with PoF. I've also submitted creatives to be approved for Black People Meet because I saw it was converting well on FB. Need to check in and see how that is going.
Found a great thread here on Dating and Facebook so I will go back and re-read it again, glean the jewels and get started on my two campaigns for today.

Day #2 - Do Or Do Not. There Is No Try.
I will get some ads approved by Facebook! Believe it or not, still haven't heard anything back on the ads I submitted yesterday. Don't understand why it would take so long if they are planning on not approving an email submit anyway. It has officially been more than one day and still no answer. Is there a way to contact Facebook and find out what the hold up is?
Setup and submitted another campaign for Dating using a Black Fling offer. Direct linked and customized my messages to each demographic. Have about 30 images to use so I have been able to mix things up a bit.
Really hoping to see some traffic tomorrow. Will work on another campaign to launch tomorrow.

I wake up this morning, check my email and see the note I have been waiting on. FB states my ads have been approved! Yeah!!!
Not so fast, grasshopper.
The very next email, same time (1:21AM) states that my ad has been disapproved.
WTH???
Ok. Well, let's see what happens with the other ads I have in the "waiting for approval" hopper. Have a couple of ideas for new campaigns that will hopefully get past the approval process.

Day #3 - Wax On, Wax Off
Just before I started this note, received a FB approval for a campaign for the Be2 dating offer. Yeah!!! Only had five ads in that campaign but they were all approved and they're running now. Going to add another 20 ads tonight. Have an idea for another campaign so let's see if I can get it approved as well.

Day #4 - Sanding, Small Circles
Another sloggy day but I learned a lot. I received 2,176 impressions but not one clicked through and no conversions. Doryphoros, I think you have something with the different campaigns vs adding ads. I had been told that the method was to get one ad approved, then submit the other ads but under the same campaign. Now, I see I need to do the exact opposite and I will, tomorrow. I will re-tool my ads and hopefully my other submission will be approved. I'm submitting another campaign tonight and one more in the morning.
Tomorrow is my birthday and I know what I want. I want my first conversion with FB traffic. So I have plenty of studying to do tonight to ensure that happens tomorrow.

Day #5 - You Say It's Your Birthday! Well, It's My Birthday, Too!

Ok, it is late. My ads were approved by FB while I was out to dinner being treated for my birthday. Broke things out into five campaigns. Same ad, different picture. You want the stats so here they are:

Here is the graph of the numbers we generated yesterday with the Black Fling campaign.
Does not appear to be any clear winner. I have four with a CTR of 0.047% to 0.048%. The only difference with the ads is the pictures.
I'm thinking I should lower my bid and pause three of them and just keep the two highest running. What do you think?
Also, had issues with the tracking pixel firing so I don't know which one delivered the two conversions. Will talk with my AM later this morning to find out what the issue is.
Should get another campaign going today once my approvals come in.

I am new here but I just thought I would throw out this scenario that I just ran into today - maybe it will save someone else from a FB ban... Two days ago I started a email submit campaign on FB setup with cloaking. I thought I would start with just a few ads to make sure they got approved. I created about 10 ads and they all approved after about 8 hours. Then yesterday I created a few more ads and they all were approved. This morning, I decided to get busy and I created about 100 more ads in the same campaign for the same offer all with different images (I was just testing images so ad copy was the same). About 4 hours later I noticed a few got approved and then a few were disapproved, then I noticed about 50 got disapproved with images that were similar to the ads that had been approved earlier. A few minutes later I couldn't access my FB ad account and I received this email -
Hi,
Facebook will not tolerate behavior that users may find annoying or abusive, or that violates our Terms of Use or Advertising Guidelines. You have used the account associated with _________@hotmail.com to submit ads that are explicitly prohibited by our ad policies. Please note that you have been warned more than once in the past. As a result, your account has been permanently disabled.
We will not be able to reactivate your account, nor will you be able to recover any content within the account. You will also not be permitted to create a new account to restart your Facebook advertising. This decision is final.

I hadn't been warned in the past, so I am thinking that the large quantity of ads triggered something or maybe multiple groups of ads getting disapproved all at once was a bad thing. If I were to do it again, I would keep creating smaller sets of ads and wait for those to get approved before adding more.

More good and bad news. Good news is that I figured out what was wrong with CPV Lab receiving the tracking pixel and resolved it. Good news is that I received a decent amount of traffic (clicks) to just a few ads so now I know which ones are doing the job. Optimizing those now to only focus on the big hitters. Good news is that I had six ads with a CTR of 0.04% or better (highest was 0.07%).
Bad news is that I only received two conversions out of 131 clicks. Have to work on my copywriting because it appears I am not convincing the clicking browser to sign up for the offer. But they do seem to like my pictures. Am I reading this wrong?
Below are my stats for the day:
I'm only running the Black People Meet in CA. Going to take my top ad, replicate and try with US traffic. Only one of the top ads actually had any conversions so I will pause the other for right now.
Going to pause all of the ads except for one with Black Fling. Seems the ladies only want to see one type of picture so I will find more of them. Third day running this ad but I've had three conversions and a decent CTR. Have to come up with a way to convince the clickers to sign up for the offers.
Any suggestions?
After tweaking these two campaigns, going to launch one with Rich Man today. I have a very specific group I think it will work well with.

Just a quick tip, you dont have to request a higher limit, up untill $1k it will automatically be given to you

Day #9 - Time To Punt
Optimized the two campaigns I had by eliminating the offers that had not converted and were still receiving clicks. That worked, sort of. For most of the day, my two campaigns were actually profitable! Later, a few too many clicks and they went back to the red.
Mr. Green gave me a great link to an article on which types of images to use for dating offers. Working on obtaining those images to re-launch campaigns tomorrow.
NuSolutionz also gave me some great advice but now it is gone. I understand that there may not be much life left in these campaigns I selected. Everything I've read here has stated that determining that is more science than art. I know I will make mistakes at the start but that is also how I learn. Want to make certain that I have done everything I can to optimize the campaigns before dropping them completely. If the new images do not work, then it is time to move on.
Talked with my AM yesterday and he gave me input on a campaign is dating campaign that is doing great with FB traffic. I believe this will be a good test for me this next few days. I already know the campaign is converting. Now, I have to get it converting for me. I have been approved for my target offers so the next steps are to just get it going, which I will be doing today and tomorrow.
I appreciate all of the candid advice. I am going to get this figured out, I promise, and show you that your advice and assistance have not been wasted.

Spent most of the weekend finding new pics and writing copy. Also decided to try an International offer as my new one. Posted 42 ads between two campaigns. FB approvals and disapprovals came through a couple of hours ago. Watching CTR to see if we have a winner. Will report back in the morning.
