$500 - $1500 - my plan - opinions needed

Hi all,

I have a budget of $500 that can easily be lifted to $1500.
First of all, thank you for your time and any feedback.

I've a budget to invest, and I don't intend to waste it all as this can be my last chance into affiliate marketing.

Now, would you recommend POF or FB as a starting point?

The way I decided to proceed is:

- Get a subscription to EWA approved (waiting for their email)
- Find a product I can market and get approved with direct linking on FB (or POF?)
- Get a creative that promotes the product / service from a unusual angle (ie: the "twilight yourself" example from the 80k profit FB case study)
- Use long term targeting (ie: type + location + age + ...), and write a couple of ones just to test the market
- If I get results, scale the long term targeting to thousand of creatives (just creating few new ones a day)
- If I don't get results, try other products or approaches

Does this make sense to you or am I doing some big and regrettable newbie mistake?

Stick with one Traffic source and master it. i would recommend FB because it has more scaling possibilities. Apply at more networks because you should be rotating offers from other networks. Get your trackign set up. Stick to one or two niches and master it! Make lots and lots of creatives, launch lots and lots of campaigns with different angles and learn. Stick to one thing and you'll be making money much faster than from hopping to the one shiny thing to the other.

I would pick POF over FB....just due to the fact fb can be $$ to get things going.....and POF is much more aff friendly....its not uncommon on fb to get something working then POP goes your account.....

just my 2 cents

Thanks marcovandaar and polarbacon. Yes, I was worried about Facebook as well for the initial capital required.

My plan would be: start off with POF, get a profitable campaign working, improve my skillset and experience on affiliate marketing and advertising, then when I feel like making the move, jump on the Facebook vagon.

Would this make sense to you guys?

Thanks again!

hey there...before pushing traffic to an offer, may want to build a list yourself 1st, that means having a lander with an email opt in.

if you don't break even, you at least have an asset, which you can use to test other things by emailing out other offers.

an email list would be an asset..but proper execution will require higher skills else coatlier..ryt now go with basics and at the beginning..follow a simple principle of K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) u shd be making it!!

I agree, keep it simple and ask your aff mgr what's working direct linked on POF. However, I would quickly be looking into getting landing pages made because they typically convert better and offers go away so you want to be able to plug and play different offers without killing your campaign.

Thanks lads, all great tips.

My goals now:

- Good CTR (direct linking will be fine for now, as ROI is not the starting goal)
- Good ROI (deep diving into landing pages)
- Scaling

CTR of 0.25% reached with POF. Of course, with only one ad and a lucky combination of text images. Would love to be able to replicate it with a completely different style.
ROI: all loss as the landing page lost everything (check the follow along: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...day-in-4-weeks )
