Okay stackers, here is my entry to the latest contest on STM. I am not a total noob if it comes to mobile but I still lack on the optimizing part (damn JT rep tells me to spend more to get sites blocked). I am sick of this JT shit and looked around for another mobile traffic source and found it: AdModa (NOT AdultModa).
My goal of this campaign is to learn more about this traffic source as I haven't used them before. I don't want to jump on JT as probably most guys will do. I also don't except to get this campaign into a positive ROI but probably nearly the breaking even point.
This campaign is direct linked but I will probably add in a lander at a later point. I will save my #2 contest campaign to something non-dating ;-)
>> Details of campaign #1 (direct linked)
- Platform: AdModa
- Offer: Neverblue - Cellflirt - Mobile Optimized - AT&T Feature Phone
- Payout: $9.00 / Lead
- Targeting: US / Feature Phones
- Daily Budget: $15
- Bid: 0.018
- Category: Dating & Chat
>> Targeting

>> Tracking
I am not using any kind of 3rd party tracking software like P202 or cpvlab but instead I will use subid's to track on ad level. So all my ads are named like: ad01, ad02, ad03 etc. and I append this to my affiliatelink: &subid=ad01-admoda-nb-cellf-att-fp-us
Since you can't really target FP per se, I used the "exclude type" feature to narrow down to feature phones.
>> Offer

>> My Campaign

>> My Ads
I will let the campaign run a day or two and then show the ads with some stats.
Good shit man. Solid set up, looking forward to seeing your progress.
Hey 2 main pieces of advice:
1. Up your daily budget a bit more, for an offer with a payout of $11 you need atleast a $30/day budget to see results. You'll be holding yourself back if it's only 1x the payout.
2. I definitely recommend split testing a landing page, lots of concepts can be done with an offer like this. Just think of concepts used on the web for similar offers, but this time someones on their phone seeing this so the demand to meet "right now" is now of highest priority.
Apps like this already exist and are quite useful if your out with a "gang of bro's" for the night, these apps help you meetup with a gang of women if you can swindle it. This is 1 of them, but search for more for landing page ideas:

Ahhh we need a quick save mod, just lost my reply by hitting the wrong button, damn. Anyways thanks for the feedback Stack, really appreciated. Please have a look at my bid again. That's the reason I don't use a higher daily budget. I get damn cheap clicks...
Landing page is definitely in the making and coming with another batch of ads.
>> Stats 02/17/12 AdModa

>> Stats 02/17/12 Neverblue

Conversions: 0
As you see I got 148 clicks for $2.77, whooohooo. Couldn't even use the daily budget lol. I will probably just create a shit ton of campaigns with a $10 budget each and different angles to see what's working and whats not...otherwise I am not able to scale that shit.
There is definitely a trend what brand gets all the clicks, it's the Motorola MOT-EX122.
>> My Ads

From top to bottom: ad01 / ad02 / ad03 / ad04
As you can see from the stats, the FB one outperformed the other ads by far except the last one. I used some ideas from forum members just to try a varity of ads (not that creative I know). Next batch is based on the winners and are already in the making...
Conclusion: I definitely need to work on CTR to get it at least above 0.5. I know the offer is converting on other networks so I will keep that one for now and work on angles/landers/ads. I will also do some more research on the MOT-EX122 model to get more familiar with it.
Alright, just found some more targeting possibilities on AdModa using Java, Symbian etc. If I am not wrong these are also used on Feature Phones. I also just added a new campaign based on text ads only...Let's see how this turns out.
When you test creatives initially you want them to be as drastic as possible from one another. You pick the one with high CTR then tweek things like color/text to get the CR up. Remember an ads first job is to get NOTICED then convince user to click, the LPs job is to get the user to take the action.
Looking good, just definitely need to collect more data.
Arlight, CTR dropped over the weekend and I am, for some reasons, not able to pull stats for 18/19 so I will just attach today :-)
>> Stats 02/20/12 AdModa

Conversions: 0
And it seems that I am losing clicks. AdModa shows 366 while in my NB stats there are about 100 less (261) registered clicks. CTR for today is pretty good so far, over 1%.
I also did some research on the phone model MOTOROLA MOT-EX122 but still not sure if this is really a feature phone or not. So if anybody has some insights I am VERY thanksful.
To get more traffic I created another campaign but only based on text ads. So far I've created 6 text ads which are currently waiting to get approved.

>> New Batch Of Banner Ads

These ads are also waiting for approval. The last one has an animated arrow blinking 3 times.
Conclusion: Not sure what's happening here and why it doesn't converts. I will run it some days more to gather more data but I think my targeting might be off...
What is stopping you from rotating a bunch of WAP dating offers? All your ads are very generic, so you can easily slide in a few more dating offers in rotation. E.g Benaughty and Meetmoi.
Like stackman said you def need to up your bids. The amount of traffic you are getting is not going to give you any worth while data.
The loss of clicks you have reported is typical for mobile.
I see, I see thanks for your input Mr. Greenkle :-) Just upped the bids to 0.016 for both, the banner as well as the text campaign. Let's see if I get more impressions/clicks. I choose that offer since I know it's converting well on other mobile sources so I intended to get this working on AdModa as well ;-) I might duplicate the campaigns using another offer just to see how's it going...
Those types of ads get the clicks but they don't get the conversions. I've had a LOT more success with ads that actually tell people what's coming. Treat your ad like a pre-sell.
Click loss is particularly bad for feature phones.
Click loss is particularly bad on INT. traffic.
Good advice deondup, thanks a lot. I've added some text as well as banner ads which are, in my opinion, more pre-selling the offer then the generic ads.
Okay so since almost everybody included a tutorial on to how to setup a campaign on their particular traffic source I decided to add one as well
Here we go
>> Add New Campaign

Not much to say, huh.
>> Name Your Campaign

Be sure to name your campaign properly. I like to include the type of campaign (Banner/Text) as well.
>> Add Banner(s)

Add a description like ad01 or the same as your subid might be named. Next is your destination url or in case you're using your own tracking it's your tracking link. Then add some text which appears below your banner. Keep it short and don't forget to include a CTA! Select a matching category as well as the country you would like to run the campaign in and finally upload your banner.
>> Targeting

There is no simple way to target feature phones except to use the "Type excludes" feature. The best is you click through each option and see the possibilities.
>> CPC/CPM Pricing

So once you're done with the targeting options, hit the next tab which is the CPC/CPM pricing.
>> Funding The Campaign

In this step you add or take out some funds to your campaign, save and hit the final tab to get the campaign activated.
>> Campaign Guidelines

Look yourself what is allowed on AdModa :-)
>> Campaign Planner

This is a pretty cool feature with lot of data to go through :-)
>> Stats 02/21/12 AdModa Banners

>> Stats 02/21/12 AdModa Text

Horrible CTR for today on both campaigns. I've deactivated banner ad01-ad04 and let the other run for some days.
>> Overall Stats til Today (Banners)

>> Overall Stats til Today (Text)

Still not one single conversion with this traffic source, where the offer on JT converted pretty good. I am not sure yet if it's worth to run it any longer but I will deifnately test the same ads on Symbian/Java phone targeting!
NOT GIVING UP THAT FAST :P
Okay, not much to report today, still at zero conversions and I am really wonder why the hell AdModa doesn't converts.
>> Stats 02/21/22 AdModa Banners

As you can see I didn't get many impressions today even with a higher bid...
>> Stats 02/21/22 AdModa Text
0 Imps / 0 Clicks for today
>> Stats 02/21/22 AdModa Java Banners

>> Stats 02/21/22 AdModa Symbian Banners

Conclusion: Right now I am really thinking of switching the traffic source. I have created at least about 5 other campaigns and there is happending the exact same thing - Nothing converts for me.
edit: almost forgot to add the java/symbian campaign stats
Okay gave up on this one after clicks and clicks and not ONE single conversion. AdModa isn't working for me so switching the traffic source is my next step, cu laters.
You thought of switching offers?
Okay stackers, not giving up on this one. I've just launched 15 new ads on Mojiva this time. First offer is still the Cellflirt offer for feature phones. Second offer is for a Prepaid Visa Card and third is for a Pay Per Call offer. I bid CPM this time, let's see how this round goes :-)
So far:
PPVNewbie vs. Mobile Beast
0 : 1
Ads still pending as you can see:

Oh man, how I hate this business sometimes. They changed their CC policies and now they verify every CC again. I already run traffic with them and paid without any issues but this time I have to wait til the end of the month to see their charging statement. So I can't run these campaigns on Mojiva before the contest ends - SUCKS.
Back on track Stackers! New traffic source and new offer in the mix :-) I run two campaigns, one for Android phones and one for Iphones.
Ad Network: Millennial Media
New Offer: Green Dot Pre Paid Debit Card
Network: Neverblue
Payout: 2.5
CPC: 0.10

Overall:

So far I really like their interface. Setting up a campaign is a breeze and straight forwared. Approval was done within 24h so all good so far. Something I haven't figured out yet is how to edit an existing campaign. Seems like you can't up your bid prices once the campaign is running...Have to write their support or shortly read through their help section.
Conversions: 2 although I only see one in NB advanced stats.
Next step: Using WRW to get some ideas for own ad creatives.
Oh damn, didn't realize that the contest is already over, too bad. So what I've learned so far? Not really much besides that I probably spent to much on my AdModa traffic. I probably would have done much better just creating much more campaigns instead of analyzing the data when NO conversions happened. I know AdModa works, I also know that the Cellflirt offer works but maybe not on this traffic source. Proof that AdModa works already given by Shhhant's contest follow along study (well done, by the way).
I will definitely fund and wait until Mojiva accepts my CC. I can't wait to see some data from their traffic again :-) I will also continue the campaign I've posted above and probably update this thread (if allowed).
After watching the mobile madness webinar I think mobile is still the go although the $250/day spend on JT is pretty hefty, for me at least. For this reason I will focus on other networks then JumpTap, such which have worked for me in the past ;-)
So, have fun Stackers and keep the green coming
