This first part is a continuation from my previous follow along:
I left off my last post with a profitable MeetMoi campaign from offermobi running on Jumptap. My AM had just informed me my traffic was good so they bumped me up from 3.25$ payout to 5$ payout - the "gold offer". I changed links and was about to test it the next day. I also had a BeNaughty App download from Neverblue spending 25$ and making 19$ so I could of probably made that profitable. And finally, I had an ATT Ringtone campaign from Neverblue running on Airpush. The first day I tested this bad boy I spent 30$ and made 70$(Never have first day profit?). So, what happened the following day?
The MeetMoi gold offer didn't convert worth crap, the BeNaughty App was around the same ROI level, and I got too excited with the Airpush campaign and bumped it up from 30$ spend to 80$...it only made 60$. This was the second time that I was profitable right off the bat and bumped up my ad spend too much. The time before was with my original MeetMoi (following a persons advice, although well intentioned, maybe wasn't from a mobile experienced affiliate) and bumped up my spend from 25$ to 200$(they suggested 1000$). What happened that time? I only made 50$, stopped it by the time it hit 100$ and saved my self from what surely would be more loss. Lesson number one of this follow along: the profit in mobile is from having lots of 25-50$ campaigns. As much as I want to have one massive focus that I can scale just by changing daily budget, it's not going to happen. Mobile just doesn't work that way, your going to have to multi-task and get organized. You also need to learn more then one self serve ad platform. If this doesn't appeal to you, then mobile will not be fun cause this trend will continue(I think, I r still newb). It's still worth it though, at least as far as I can tell.
The only good thing that happened that day is the godfather of mobile invited me to his network. This was my original goal, so even though my 3 campaigns went to crap that day, I was still happy. The next few days I spent absorbing all the info he has on his internal site. None of which I will be sharing here whatsoever....this is mainly due to the youtube video above...but also cause I like what he's building and wan't to be a part of it.
I also spent those first few days checking out offers, learning the system, and of course trying to reroute all my campaigns to comparable offers on his Network. That's the point when I realized just how shitty my organization was.
It was bad enough that I wanted to start fresh. I didn't move any of the campaigns over, just put them back to their original selves and let them run till they were out. BeNaughty didn't last long, Ringtones on Airpush was good for a bit, and a learning opportunity happened with MeetMoi. It turned out it wasn't the "Gold Offer's" fault. It was the nature of the game. Somebody else kicked my ass.
While those were dieing down I got all my folders organized, to-do lists functioning better, links sorted out, conversion tracking on jumptap working(ya I ignored that at first). Really before now I was just throwing everything out there just to get stuff started. It worked, but it just wasn't going to keep working. I am now testing my first campaign(has promise) with MobAff and have two more built up and ready to start. Infinitely more organized. But that's enough about that.
///Begin Mobile Competition Follow Along
I think the biggest challenge in mobile is getting good at all the different traffic sources. Since right now I know Jumptap and I am OK at Airpush , I am going to focus on something that I have not being taught or tackled my self. That way I am not Spoon Feeding you.... until the end of this follow along, where I plan to share with you my optimal linking format, tracking format, basically the finer points of one of the many self serve ad platforms out there for mobile. That's going to be what sets my follow along apart from the competition. Wish me luck! (also I think I am at a decent point in mobile to do this properly)
Will post soon... Oh ya, its BuzzCity that I will be teaching everyone. anybody wan't to do the others? (Might be the point of this whole shindig)
Nice man ya the point of this contest is to for everyone to learn, no point in running something you have run before.. I'm sure you might even get a few nice spoonfuls from others. Looking forward to see your buzzcity action.
Hey Mr. Green, glad you chimed in, I sent you a PM but your inbox is probably full... can you change the title of this thread to "Spoon Fed BuzzCity by HappyCanadian (Contest)". Thanks
STM Forum Research
> Buzzcity has no tracking parameters.
> Buzzcity sucks for click descrepancies.
> Shoent does not like buzzcity.
> Tap10n agrees, but also mentions .good european traffic
> I am starting to be afraid, avg 80% click discrepancies. Hope: When there is click descrepencies, download the clicklog from BuzzCity. Shows where the clicks came from. If they came from a source not allowed on your offer, your network may have filtered them out.
> Try the admob trick? at the end of this follow along maybe, just to make things interesting.
> A Must Read for mobile, won't tackle this one in this follow along, maybe when I am 30 days off work I'll start throwing hail marrys with good focus.
> Create a BuzzCity account, then create subaccounts when you start to promote a new "type". The "type" of accounts they have: Brand, Mobile Content, Religious, Glamour&Dating, Gambling, Adult. If you promote one of these offers your main account or subaccounts will forever be that type and will not show on any other inventory.
> Examples of working campaigns on buzzcity.
> THIS scares me a lot more then I already have being. Keep it up STM!
> The clicklog is only for the past 2 days, so get it everyday. Also, you can track phone agent, time, and Ip using some crafty business. I don't think I'll be able to do it since I will be Direct Linking and it requires you to grab IPs from clicklog and compare to tracking systems like p202.
BuzzCity Research & Offer Selection
BuzzCity has this amazing thing called a campaign planner. >See Image 1 NOW< This wonderful beauty provides you with a lot of good data.
Example:
China > Reach: 1.66 M, Ads Served: 162.3 M
India > Reach: 92.11 , Ads Served: 3,302 M
US > Reach: 17 M, Ads Served: 1312 M
Columbia > Reach: .31 M, Ads Served: 39.7 M
Argentina > Reach: 1.21 M, Ads Served: 215 M
Ads Served might be more important than Reach.....anybody running India on buzzcity? cause your killing it aren't you
My Offer??.......Armed with that campaign planner info....I was once travelling in Buenos Aires and met a Columbian girl just before I left for Brazil. I fooled around with that Columbian girl and almost changed my backpacking plans. She was freaking gorgeous, but Brazil was good too. I parted ways remembering good times. Soooo what does that research tell us? I'll be promoting WAP offers in Columbia and Argentina. Actually that wasn't the reason, my AM at MobAff suggested giving these a shot, who is also the owner, how beautiful is that.
Offer1:
Name: CO Join the Cookies Chicks! (WAP) - Adult stuff
Offer2:
Name: CO Reggaeton Fan (WAP) - Mobile Content Stuff, Reggaeton is a type of music.
Characterstics for both
Targeting: Only Movistar, Tigo and Comcel carriers.
Conversion Action: 2 step, MSISDN - Click to Subscribe.
Restrictions: No WIFI traffic. No Opera Mini traffic. No Proxy traffic.
Payout: $1.10 per Conversion
Bid Prices: As low as I can to start. Probably .01.
Tracking: Probably not well, still deciding on that.
Ads: to come soon.
Spend: Whatever it takes to determine potential, nothing else makes sense to me.
I have never promoted WAP offers before, so that's going to be new. Now according to BuzzCities campaign planner these two locations do not have a lot of reach. But this first campaign will be just to get started, then I will run one to a larger traffic pool and get er done like a bawse. >See Image 2 and Image 3 NOW< Landing pages, both offers are 2 step conversions.
Another CampaignPlanner Example to push the point:
My account is already flagged as Dating&Glamour, my offer only targets 3 carriers, and my offer is WAP. So how many people am I actually targeting in Columbia?
>See Image 4 NOW<, Only 29.01% of traffic falls under Glamour&Dating. (EDIT: Not all Channels match up with Account Types, taught more in later posts)
>See Image 5 NOW<, My offer does not target Columbia Tel, so only 59.13% is left.
>See Image 6 NOW<, My offer is WAP, lots of non smart phones, so that's fine.
Instructions for BuzzCity Newbs
Step 1: Open an account
Step 2: Check out campaign planner and the offers available at your network.
Step 3: From that research, pick your offer, if you can make it a China or India offer your golden.
Step 4: Email BuzzCity for an AM and include an initial request of making a subaccount and labelling it one of their 6 account types which corresponds to your offer selection. Reminder: Getting an AM may be hard
@ Canadian... try AR offers first, more success with them.
Also, all the research is great, but at the end of the day if you launch 10 campaigns 2 are bound to have potential so remember launch, launch, launch, optimize, scale
Loving the intense research, never seen the 1st offer before is it any of the ones you attached?
@Stackman, ya Image 2 and 3 are the landing pages for those offers. Is that what you meant?
@Angry, Doing now, thanks for the reminder.
Status Report
I launched a baby campaign last night for COCookies chicks just to learn the system.
Results:
Image Ad: >See Image 1 NOW<, .33% CTR, 34 clicks, 0 conversions
Text Ad: "You have (1) Message Waiting", .65% CTR, 64 clicks, 0 conversions
My tracking says I got 87 and 85 clicks...so free clicks? Either way It was just to learn the system. Bid was only .02 so no biggy.
Next Launch
Campaign Info:
Name: AR Join the Cookies Chicks! (WAP) - Argentina
Conversion Action: 2 step - MSISDN - Click to Subscribe.
Targeting: Only target Movistar, Claro and Personal carriers(its a company, not a type).
Restrictions: No WIFI traffic. No Opera Mini traffic. No Proxy traffic.
Payout: $0.60 per Conversion (going to need low CPC to make this profitable)
Landing Pages: >See Image 2 NOW<
My Campaign Names: (Just text ads for now)

The tracking portion of my link:
source=BuzzCity&aff_sub=[HardCode-CampaignName]
Extras
Bid: .02 per campaign
Daily Budget: 5$ per campaign
Tag: No Tag (Jumptap does not have this option, not sure what it does.)
Haven't tackled CR postback tracking yet, just going to do without for now.
The Text Ad = "You Have (1) Message Waiting"..... Have never tried text ads, should be interesting.
Exclude Opera Mini
The 5 channels are: Glamour&Dating, MobileContent, MyGamma, Community, and Entertainment.
My text ad had a higher CTR then my image ad so I am just testing text for now to make gathering data easier. Also AR has more traffic then CO so that should help. Again my account is flagged as Glamour&Dating. I am assuming that means it will only show on the glamour and dating channel, but since account types don't match up with channel types I am not sure. I'll be testing 5 different channels, the reason I am only testing 5 is they are 95% of the traffic in Argentina, so whats the point in testing the others?(+1 for campaign planner). Now the way I set it up is pretty crude, but it will allow me to optimize everything except for SITE ID's which I may tackle later.
Remember the goal of my Follow Along is to teach people how to test campaigns on BuzzCity so when they have something working on Jumptap they can easily move over to BuzzCity. On the same topic, when I created the image campaign it wouldn't let me just attach one size of image. So you can't create a campaign of just 300-50 like Jumptap...FYI.
Also, the offer says no WIFI. In BuzzCity I couldn't find the no WIFI selection yet but you can target specific carriers, I am assuming that won't include WIFI. As well I can't seem to find a No Proxy Traffic option. Any Gurus know?
Instructions for BuzzCity Newbs
Not ready to give any yet. Probably going to leave this section blank for a while
.
Right on. Thanks for sharing. I've looked at buzzcity but it seemed sketchy. Look forward to seeing more of your results.
Any updates? I'm running a similar AR offer and it's tanking pretty hard. Let me know
Thanks!
Status Report
@Shhhant, ya it's not getting any impressions. In those respects, it's tanking.

(Side Note: I figured out how to attach images: Thread Here)
Back to what's important. The ARCookiesChicks campaign doesn't seem to run at all. I bid .02 for all campaigns. I got two conversions on "ARCChicks-TextYH1Msg-Claro1-MC" and then bumped that up to .05 to get more traffic. I could do that to all the campaigns, but just wanted to split test and see if it made a difference. It hasn't really done much. This is the first time I ran text campaigns.
Anybody got suggestions for increasing traffic? Should I make some image ads? I guess at 2 conversions right now there is some promise, but really that shouldn't even count as data at these click amounts. How much do people usually bid with buzzcity?
Next Launch
While that runs and I wait for replies, I am going to launch a Canadian offer to learn more. I am going to improve my tracking by using the following format:
source=BuzzCity&aff_sub=[HC-CampaignName-Adname]&aff_sub2=[HC-Carrier]&aff_sub3=[HC-Channel]&aff_sub4=[HC-Handset]
Anybody have a working postback URL for buzzcity?
I think the recommended (or avg?) bid for AR on BC is 0.08.
Status Report
BuzzCity is not your friend and here's an example of click descrepancies.

My tracking says(I was only running Buzzcity campaigns for these days):

145 and 165 clicks received on the 24th and 25th, charged for 549 and 412. Yikes. So with that said. It's a little hard to stomach that big of click discrepancies.
Next Move
I might be trying a few more campaigns just to put the nail in the coffin. I have a feeling there is potential in BuzzCity especially since it's difficult to figure out and not many people want to keep dealing with shittiness. But I'll definitely cut my losses soon enough. I definitely did not gather significant data, just enough to see the challange the buzzcity is.
I am going to finish this FA by completing it's intended purpose. Share with you how I setup a campaign.
BuzzCity Newbs
Before you setup a campaign check out your target country and find the most significant traffic sources, then get all your tracking links hard coded and ready to copy over. Example of a campaign I setup in Canada:
Campaign planner told me: 80% of canadian inventory is blackberry sooo only targeting blackberry, Rogers is the largest carrier = testing Rogers first, Channels, and Hansets get same treatment.

As you can see, hardcoding links is a bit of a pain. Each of those links per campaign. That's how it's done. This is the first network I have done it on. It's a DAMN good thing you can copy campaigns in Buzzcity, so creation is actually pretty quick. It's the planning part you have to get down to make it fast.
Special Note: When you try to target a carrier the option to do so is here.....

That little plus sign isn't expanded automatically. I have read on the forum that's one thing people have trouble with. Other then that campaign creation is easy. You will have to rely entirely on your tracking system so I haven't bothered with PostBack URL.
That's it for now, if anybody has any additions please add here. I think it's time for me to focus on actually marketing
.
