[6-Jun-2022] Let's do some work together...?

Hey STM peeps!

I'll be working online for the next few hours. Again, you're welcomed to join me on zoom.

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/8366071648...JORXp2TTJFUT09

Chat will be disabled there, but we can use this thread to chat instead.

What are you working on today? What are you looking to accomplish in the next few hours? Posting here can be a good way of holding yourself accountable.

Me: I'm aiming to crank out 5-10 tiktok ads for a new lead gen offer. What about you?

(Background Info:

Any of you working alone? Need some emotional support?

I'll be online for the next few hours. You're welcomed to join me on zoom.

I've disabled chat (at least for now) so we can be more productive. But we can quietly support each other in spirit.

This would be the equivalent of a study group in a library. We each arrive sporadically, sit down, do some hardcore work, then leave whenever.

I picked up this idea from those study livestreams on Tiktok - the ones showing someone studying, and people joining to virtually study "together".)

Amy
P.S. This thread will self-destruct when I log off zoom.

That was a really productive session for me! Got close to 20 video ads done. One of you were there almost as long as I was - kudos! Thanks everyone for the company! Bedtime for me....

Whoa how were you able to get 20 video ads done? Do they all have a slight variation?

I'm trying different methods to efficiently edit videos and I've been trying to use the mirror iphone function on Windows. But it seems pretty laggy.

That was me.

I have to say, i was very surprised by the fact that you sat in the same chair and worked for 6-7 hours straight. I can't sit in the same place for more than 30 minutes, my back will start aching or I'll start watching youtube shorts. lol. I need to work on my improving concentration and get my body used to sitting in a chair.

This "work together" session was very productive for me because, seeing you work nonstop(last night) also gave me the motivation to stay off the bed and get some work done.
We shud have more of this in future.

Yup most of those ads were basically same/similar. 3 variations of the "main" video, combined with different hooks.

I try to keep things simple by using the InShot mobile app + the Tiktok app. There are so many software + apps + saas available for editing videos - I would love to explore more of them one day, but for now just want to limit my scope and get faster.

Editing videos on the phone sure does take some getting used to if, like me, you were used to using windows (e.g. photoshop/premiere/after effects). But once I got used to mobile I found that it was actually more convenient. I'm curious: What are you using in windows to edit videos?

Indeed it was you! I must admit - I don't think I would have stayed as long as I did if you hadn't either haha! Looks like these sessions are serving their purpose!

I'll try to have these as often as I can. I think these sessions have potential to turn into something more in the future, e.g. masterminds, Q&As, discussions, live demos, etc.

I think it's great that your body will remind you to get up and walk around once in a while. But yeah now that you mention it - I AM blessed in that I can sit for hours and hours without having to get up. I've sat through 15-hr flights without getting up from my seat - of course though I had to really limit my fluid intake before and during the flight.

Youtube shorts - yup it takes superb self-control to not get distracted. Maybe these apps can help?

Honestly I might be doing it the harder way. I think splicing and adding text to video takes the longest. I tried mirroring my iphone to my windows pc but it doesn't work as well. I think mirroring is the best option since you can type from keyboard.

The only thing I use in Windows is really just Veed.IO to resize the creatives to TikTok's scale. I find that filming on my iphone I have to resize my creatives otherwise there's some blank space on the left and right.

My process is:

1) Filming with iPhone with Camera App.
2) Upload Creatives to TikTok Mobile App to edit. Although I should really start learning how to use inShot more as this can avoid using Veed to resize.
3) Put Finished Creatives, Hooks, B-Roll stored in dropbox. For some reason I don't think iCloud works as well for me or it doesn't upload as quickly.
4) Resize creatives to fit TikToks resolution through Veed on my desktop computer.
5) Upload to TikTok Library. Done.

Tools I'd recommend:

1) PNY Flash Drive: This helps me to quickly upload finished creatives onto a flash drive and into my PC. I find uploading whether to the cloud or dropbox takes too long. https://www.amazon.com/PNY-128GB-Fla.../dp/B075CPM9BQ
2) Upgrade your iPhone. Unfortunately, I have a 64GB iphone and the next iPhone I'm going to get I'm definitely going with 512GB - 1TB option. I have a separate iphone now with 256gb just dedicated to tiktok filming.

Nice thanks for the details! I follow a similar process. And yeah all the resizing does seem tedious and unnecessary. Over time though we'll get faster and more efficient I'm sure.

I do the splicing in Inshot because it has the editing options I need - splitting, changing the speed, doing picture-in-picture (when putting synthesia AI people into the vid), etc. But for adding text I usually use tiktok to get that "native" feel.

I use dropbox to store videos as well. It's also more convenient as I can download vids from tiktok using savett.cc directly to dropbox.

That flash drive looks interesting! But if you transition to using InShot then I guess you wouldn't really need to use that anymore.

Perhaps you'd like to copy and paste your post into your follow-along? I'm going to archive this thread soon (like all my other "work with me on zoom" threads) and your advice is too good to go...

So InShot has the capabilities to resize your videos so you don't actually have to use Veed. Thankfully, I thought I was the only one experiencing the hardship of resizing. So once you have all your clips together and edited on Tiktok, you can transport them to Inshot and select Canvas at the bottom, select TT ratio(9:16), and then Zoom to get rid of the edges. The edges part seem to be the most bothersome part. I should really learn how to use Inshot so I can see if there's a better way to edit the creatives.

So if I use Inshot, I don't have to use the flash drive? I put all my finished creatives on DropBox. Sometimes I find it hard to cipher through creatives through the drafts on TiktTok since they're not labeled. I have a naming convention for when I do creatives as well it goes by the following:

ST1HO1 - Ditching Credit Cards

So an example would be I'd create 10 different storylines for a personal lead gen offer. Each Story is unique. So Story = ST1, ST2, ST3, etc.... up to 10.
Along with that I'd create different opening hooks as well. HO1, HO2, HO3, etc....

I know when it comes to lead gen creative the typical setup I see is something like Opening Hook > Story > Walkthrough of Lead Form > B-Roll(Optional)/CTA

By naming it this way, I know what creatives I launch and can quickly reference it. The reason why I only use ST & HO as naming conventions is because most of the other stuff is typically common footage that can be used throughout multiple videos. In the future, I might revamp it to:

ST1HO1EMacBook: E = Ecommerce
ST1HO1LGPL: LG = Lead Gen; PL = Personal Loan Vertical

But, trying to make it not that complicated now lol

I'll definitely incorporate something like this to my follow-along. That thread is collecting dust, still waiting on my accounts but should have something setup real soon!

I never experience "edges", because I edit the clips in Inshot first (doing the canvas -> TT you mentioned which you only need to do once ever, and all future clips you import into InShot will be displayed in this ratio). Then I'd save each vid to dropbox. Then I'd go to dropbox and rename the vid using a similar convention as yours.

Each vid I save would be a "block" or module. Then I would combine the different modules into final video ads.

I don't even differentiate the blocks by hooks vs. story vs. whatever else - they're just all blocks. I just assign a prefix that reflects the offer - e.g. PL for personal loan - and number the blocks PL1, PL2, PL3, PL4, PL5... Then combine the blocks into video ads like PLF1 = PL4 + PL2 where the "F" stands for "Final Video". Not entirely satisfied with this convention but it works OK for now.

So if I use Inshot, I don't have to use the flash drive? I put all my finished creatives on DropBox.
My understanding is that you're only using the flash drive to transfer files from phone to desktop, in order to edit videos on desktop.

If this is correct, then yeah - if you switch to using InShot to edit your vids instead, then the editing would be all done on your phone, which would eliminate the need to transfer to desktop.

I'm really enjoying our discussion. It's these nitty-gritty details that can really stump a beginner and discourage people from starting tiktok.

I'm getting ready to create a complete video tutorial for tiktok beginners, that will include all the low-level stuff we're talking about - stuff so detailed it would never be mentioned in any follow-along or any other course.

Hmm time to start really using Inshot lol. Maybe I can get rid of the resizing/fill canvas on Inshot instead of Veed.

I'm only using the flash drive to transfer completed creatives onto DropBox. Uploading to Dropbox from phone takes a while and iCloud doesn't work that great for me. My internet speed is so-so. Could definitely be faster.

With the naming convention, yea... over time I'll revamp how I word the creatives for now it'll do.

In the video tutorial, can you mention that for particular segments of the video especially open hooks just film them all in one video(assuming same filming location) and then splice them after their done.

Other Physical Tools I use are:

Manfrotto - Compact Action Smart 61" Tripod - Black
Overhead Filming iPhone Stand from Amazon
